The war in Sudan has reached its 10th month. The war has been met with a global indifference or there has been no desire to act from many world leaders.

8 million people have fled their homes and millions of Sudanese people have emergency food insecurity, with 5 million people on the brink of famine. even the neighbouring country Chad has had to declare a food insecurity emergency due to the mass amount of Sudanese people that have fled to Chad. (By no fault of their own of course)

Faced with a media blackout which is over a week at this point we need to continue to amplify the voices and plight of the Sudanese people.

I’ve reblogged posts like this in the past to point this out, but it bears repeating; this is a massive misrepresentation of Malcolm X. He was not “for violence”. He advocated self-defense, but at no point was he “for violence”.

I get what posts like this are trying to convey, but it makes me wonder whether people really know who Malcolm X was. If you make a post with a caption over Malcolm X saying he was “for violence”, then you don’t know much about the man.

In addition, posts like this continue this binary thinking where Malcolm X is the opposite of MLK Jr. Their approaches and strategies were different, but both men evolved as time went on. Malcolm X in his early days as a minister with the NOI is very different from the Malcolm X that started the OAAU. Likewise, MLK Jr. at the Montgomery Bus Boycott is quite different from the MLK Jr. that organized the Poor People’s Campaign. Like most people, both these men evolved over time. Their views were not static, unlike the images of them that are often portrayed.

The problem is that most people’s cursory knowledge on Malcolm X is him as a minister in the NOI giving fiery speeches. For MLK Jr., it’s Montgomery, Birmingham, Selma, the March on Washington and his “I Have a Dream” speech. 

This has come to define their legacies, but they were much more than that. They were men whose ideas and outlooks changed over the years. The shift and growth of their views alienated many of the supporters, especially MLK Jr. when he started talking about poverty, economic empowerment for the poor and the Vietnam war. He wasn’t only talking about boycotts, integration and marching. His tone and direction had shifted.

The legacies of these men should not be reduced to “one was for violence” and “one was for non-violence”. Neither of them was for violence, but that’s beside the point.

If their funding is from the UN and various countries, what's up with this fundraiser?

A massive amount of UNRWA's budget was just cut in the middle of a humanitarian crisis, as the US and a number of other countries cut off aid to UNRWA completely.

They cut off aid due to Israel's allegations that 12 members of UNRWA - out of thousands of employees - were linked to the October 7th attack.

UNRWA has lost so much funding that it's going to massively deepen the humanitarian crisis there - and that funding was cut off despite the fact that, as US Secretary of State Blinken admitted yesterday (January 31, 2024) that Israel's accusations have not "born out" yet, and that the US has not even investigated the allegations themselves.

This is especially glaring and unconscionable because Israel has a documented history of lying about the events of the Israel-Gaza war and their treatment of Palestinians. x, x, x

Being from Gaza, Palestine is so different.

I tell people I'm from Gaza and I get pity, I get the "oh... do you have family there?" and I have to act tough, I am tough, it runs in my veins. Being from Gaza is expecting that reaction, the sorrow, it's dealing with dumbass people everyday, it's getting the "can you go there?" question. (No i cant btw).

I am from Gaza, I feel emotions just like everyone else, I feel anger and hurt and longing for a place I cant visit, I feel love and comfort and right now I feel alone and like im yelling at the world to pay attention and NO ONE CARES.

I am from Gaza, my thoughts belong to Gaza, my heart, my skin color, the way I speak, the way I say words a bit differently than the rest of the Palestinians, the way I wish I was a filmmaker to share my culture with the world.

I am from Gaza, i am aware of how different my people are, i am aware that i grew up differently, I am aware I grew up looking at the news from my grandparents television with my aunt waiting for news about her family, I am aware that I have trauma in my veins, I am aware that my culture is taken over and that I can't really speak about it, I am aware that not everyone experiences your aunt screaming that her brother died and yelling "He's apart of my soul, my soul died"

I am from Gaza, I hurt, I feel, I love, I care and my heart, soul and mind all belong to my beautiful land and its people.

It's unfathomable, even more so when you realize this isn't the first time Israel has done this. She was a baby. The men were so obviously red crescent medics, and still, Israeli soldiers shot and killed them.

It wasn't a misfired bomb. It was guns. They knew what they were targeting.

Anyone who defends this, for whatever religion you believe in, even if you believe in nothing at all, I can only hope the afterlife brings you your deserved suffering on a platter. You're disgusting, vile creatures, who must've snuck onto the Earth because there is no way in nature that you are human. Die.
