Neon cuckoo bee, Thyreus nitidulus, Apidae, found in Australia and north into New Guinea and Indonesia

Like all cuckoo bees, the neon cuckoo bee is a kleptoparasite - females lay their eggs in the partially completed brood cells of other bees. The larva will then hatch, eat the larder provided by the host bee, and eventually emerge as an adult bee. As seen in several of the photos above, bees will often use their mandibles to clamp onto foliage to rest.
