Anime vs Animation

When I mention to people that my major is Animation, I often get response such as “so do you like Naruto”? Anime is only one type of animation. How has it became so dominant? As much as I try to maintain my individual voice faraway from the black hole of anime, it still seems to carry some ripples of the impressing visuals I watched as a child.

Then I read this article, coming from a teacher of animation, reflecting on the relationship between anime and the students. I thought It at least started the discussion. What would be your thoughts?

I just watched Frankenweenie. The homage to the Godzilla/Gamera monsters was cool, but the Toshiaki character… Do people still find thick asian accents and broken english comedic? And the character design…might as well have come out of a propaganda cartoon from the Pearl Harbor/Hiroshima era....
