I finished my brilliant friend tetralogy this last week.
And I have so much to say, they were very complex books, with very complex characters, Lila and Elena, their friendship, all the complex feelings that they had, the love, the need, the hate, the jealousy, the envy, it was so nice reading how Elena narrated her feelings, the circumstances, everything.
I think the four books, for me, are some of the best that I have ever read. One of the best friendships that I have ever read, even with all the dark feelings that it contained. I love Elena, and her very contradictory feelings, I love Lila and her strong personality, and I think that the reason why this (4) books made me feel so much is because sometimes I've been Lila, and other times I've been Elena, and is so easy feel empathy for them, for the environment that they grew up, feeling that they deserve better, but sometimes life is just like that, cruel, mean and without a happy ending.
I read it in Spanish (because is my native language) and I enjoyed it every second.
So, I've been reading a lot of fanfics lately (mostly dramione) and, at some point in my life I discussed with my partner some things. I love the timelessness that Harry Potter shows, but I love when you watch it under the context of the muggle world (It was the 90's, and a lot was happening in the world) and I love when fics give glimpses of that, in a political or in a pop culture sense. (I really wish that they could use (at Hogwarts) some Technological items)
So here is my little illustration about a Hermione (my favorite character) being a just a girl for once and listening to no doubt and the spice girls on a walkman (how Hermione could make that work, who knows, but if someone exist that could make posible working technological items is her)
(Some dramione fics with this vibe are Détraquée - that I feel is kinda a love letter to Hermione- and Draco Malfoy and the Mortifying Order to be in love (aka batmobile)(and we're Hermione does find a way to work out with technology)
Speak now means so much to me because it was the first era that I lived. Being a teenager, feeling alone, dreaming with love, with friendships and reading a lot of romance books. Singing the lyrics without knowing English, just with Google translate. Downloading the album in ares and downloading the songs of the tour in Limewire with my cheap mp3 because I didn't have enough money to buy a cellphone with an mp3. Getting excited when Mine sounded in my country's radios. When was just me and my best friend in that time the only girls that knew and loved taylor with the same amount of intensity in our grade. I was a 13 year old dreaming with love. now I'm 25, I lived, I loved, I learned, and I relate to this songs in a different light. With all the scars and the broken hearts. Thank you so much Taylor. It was nice growing up with you by my side.
