so out show just got cancelled AND our lead writer got outed as a sexual abuser? mood for the fandom in general is: YIKES =!

i know a lotta my friends here feel soured on the show, and @ those of u who are leaving the fandom that i dont know to outside of tumblr? gonna miss u all but i totally understand!!

but for me personally? a dirk gently fan since 2001? idk im just not prepared to give up on 16 years of loving something for one dirtbag writer

so the way i wanna move forward here is to remember: dirk gently is not solely max landis’s property. yeah, his name is in the opening credits, so when people see the show they naturally assume hes the one to thank (eg: a lotta ‘thanks max for [x thing character did]’ in the tags), and he’s a very self-congratulatory guy who talks himself up, too,

but fact is: no tv show is the brainchild of one person

the show has 7 other credited writers, who are likely responsible for writing a ton of the things we love about the show (especially sinead daly and molly nussbaum, who have writing credit for the bulk of the series)

the show has an amazing cast, who all deserve credit for the way they play their characters

the show has had 8 different directors, who all would have put their own influence into the episodes they worked on

there are producers, who would have had their own input in some capacity

AND the original concept of dirk gently belongs to douglas adams. his books are the source material.

max landis is just one (shitty) man. and i want those of us who still care about the show to completely leave him in the dust.

i’m a big believer in healing change and 100% an optimist, so i truly believe there is still a chance that the fandom’s efforts to get the show picked up COULD succeed (the petition has just short of 25,000 signatures, and that’s in? less than 5 days?) and right now i honestly want nothing more to see the show get picked up, see max get kicked off, and for dirk gently’s holistic detective agency grow and flourish without him.

International fans, it’s up to us to #SaveDirkGently

So, as you have probably heard, BBC America made the decision to drop Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency.

And it sucks.

But AMC (the company involved with international distribution) are still up for carrying on with it, so we need to take action now.

The American fans did their bit by watching as the show aired. Now us international fans need to show that the world wants more Dirk Gently.

What can we do?

The most important thing is to watch the show on Netflix. Season 1 is available to be viewed right now, and the christmas holidays are the perfect time for a rewatch, no? You can also use this time to introduce all your friends and family to the show and prove that it’s gonna be worth watching season 2 and getting more seasons.

When January 5 comes around, we need as many different netflix accounts watching the show as possible. It’s all well and good if you want to watch it with your friends, but 2 separate accounts = 2 separate people watching, and we need the numbers.

Tell your family and your friends and everyone you know to watch the show on January 5 or very soon after so that we can show that the dedication that we have to it, and hopefully get it renewed on Netflix.

Unfortunately, BBC America have dropped the show but Max Landis said that AMC Studios are still in - - so if the show gets good Netflix ratings in January, we still have a chance. This is our last chance. Please watch Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, on Netflix in January.

Sarah is a BBCA Executive who we think makes the decisions on renewals so she’s most important. Let’s bombard these accounts with tweets to encourage renewal of the show.

In your tweets please include reasons why you love the show and want it to be renewed as this was suggested as the most useful way to help.
