I made another Summer Reading Book Bingo this year! Hope to see people join me! I'm going for a full blackout again, we'll see if I can accomplish it this time! Use one book for multiple prompts or play on hard mode and do one book per prompt!

I feel like all the "they broke weird al" "weird al got serious we're so cooked" comments about the killing in the name cover are missing the point. that is not a broken man. comedy is politics. comedy has always been politics. weird al has been satirizing politics for a long time because he knows the court jester can say to the king what other people can't. by doing a serious cover of an explicitly anti-establishment song that his gen x and millennial audience knows by heart when he's built his career on parody, he's saying this can't be satirized anymore and he's saying it in a very deliberate way that his audience will understand. those aren't the actions of a broken man, they're the actions of a man who is trying to tell you something. are we going to listen?
Tax the rich.
Fair taxation would eliminate the problems caused by their capitalist wealth, and they would still be extremely wealthy.
A little advice from someone studying extremist groups: if you’re in a social media environment where the daily ubiquitous message is that you have no hope of any kind of future and you can’t possibly achieve anything without a violent overthrow of society, you’re being radicalized, and not in the good way.
If the solution to your problems sounds like “we need a blank slate” it’s a lie. There are no blank slates, and the closest approximation people can generally imagine is “burn it all down and let God/fate/history sort it out”.
That’s not problem solving. It’s barely catharsis, in practice. It doesn’t just create more problems than it solves, it destroys more solutions than it creates.
Put the apocalypse down, and back away slowly.
Real solutions to complex, systemic problems are not so easily reduced to “us good, them evil; kill them.”

Voting as Fire Extinguisher
When the haunted house catches fire: a moment of indecision.
The house was, after all, built on bones, and blood, and bad intentions.
Everyone who enters the house feels that overwhelming dread, the evil that perhaps only fire can purge.
It’s tempting to just let it burn.
And then I remember:
there are children inside.

people are clowning on this guy on reddit but uhhh let's pause for a minute and ask...so what happens if someone has a skin condition? what if part of their face has been burned? what if they're missing their eyes? and so what if they just have a fuckton of tattoos? recognition algorithms are aligned with the most ""average"" / ""normal"" features which means any deviation gets denied access to shit we didnt need age verification for 1 year ago. i dont care if it's a choice versus not, dont care if it's accessing porn or wikipedia, this needs to stop
Remembering that guy who couldn't use the ID system at his work which used hand recognition (for some fucking reason) because his hands were super duper hairy, ironically making them the most recognisable hands in the office but something the computer system couldn't cope with

I sincerely hope that they do another spinoff show with Spin That Wheel. That episode was pure chaos and perfection.
@samreich give the people what they want
I created a summer reading book bingo for myself! I'm super excited to do this this year. I chose a lot of prompts to challenge myself. Anyone who wants to join, feel free! I'd love the company! I'll be starting on June 1st!
BINGOOOOOOOO
Really proud of myself for this! I was gonna try for a full blackout but I'm not sure if I have it in me now 😂
I think I'll definitely revisit some of these prompts (if not all of them), there's quite a few I was excited to try but didn't get to. Heck, I may even continue this list into the fall! (Just much less serious about it)
If anyone wants to know the books I read, I'll drop the list! 12 books in under two months ain't too bad 😎
