To all the people who can’t understand there is very much a difference between being a fucking creep and saying a polite hello in the morning.
If I am walking somewhere with my headphones on and obviously have a place to be, and you step out in front of me and try to talk to me (eg. “Hey girl, how’s it going?” “Hey I see you around all the time, whats your name?” “You’re beautiful, where’s your boyfriend?”, etc, including variations of the three) that is unsolicited and unwanted and you’re being a fucking creep.
Same scenario, except this time you make eye contact with me and smile and I see you mouth a hello, I will smile and mouth hello back. There. Done. Polite greeting with stranger over. Now if we walked past each other every day for a period of time greater than a week you could try to strike up a conversation. (eg. “Hey, long time no see.”) in which case a rational person would either a) smile back politely and continue on their way or b) continue the conversation (eg. “Hey, yeah, how are you?”) which can then lead to asking for names or numbers.
Can you see the difference? One is forcing yourself into someone else’s day, and the other is extending an invitation.
