It's far too late but I really wish we stopped calling generative AI "AI" because it's just not Artificial Intelligence.
It's like if we called drums "sonic booms" because they make a loud sound.
It's like if we called all carbonation foam "lava" because of baking soda volcanos.
It's like if we called cars "spaceships" because a car salesman once lied about their product being capable of space travel
It's like if we called vitamin supplements "cancer cures" because some people mistakenly believe they cure cancer
a thing about me is i basically never notice a wig or other kind of hairpiece in tv/movies. it has to be party city territory for me to even twig it. people will complain about characters' wigs looking bad and i will nod along but there is like a 90% chance i did not notice for a second while watching. i consider this mostly a blessing.
phm is decently popular in japan and i mostly see this when i check twitter and see accounts posting pictures of handmade rocky plushies that are so fucking round looking it brings a tear to my eye

That Reddit post of someone asking what’s Superman’s kryptonite
When you're unable to solve an IT problem at work, there really is nothing quite like having it escalated all the way up the ladder. With every step, there is a degree of smugness about how real my problem is, and that yes, I was right to have trouble with this.
You can get a minor version of this if one IT person solves it but they spend a bunch of time repeating things you’ve already tried and when they eventually solve it it’s by doing something you wanted to try but didn’t have the requisite permissions to do
Was in a situation where neither I, nor my boss knew what was causing the problem, so we ended up calling one of the head engineers, and ive never experienced anything quite as validating as the moment where said head engineer, after spending several minutes just staring at the problem, quietly said "what the fuck"
baseball fights are better than hockey fights because everyone expects a fight in hockey. baseball fights are some real hater shit

I'm reblogging to actually use this
Reblogging so I can read all of this; I think I do need to do better with my emotional maturity so this will come in handy.
i love the linguistic trend of expressing something difficult to describe by just not including an adjective where there usually would be one. “i had a day today,” or “he’s definitely one of the characters of all time.”
it’s like i can’t describe this so i just won’t. you get it tho.
I miss when ads were a single click and then they’re gone. Now every ad has a minimum of three phases where you watch a video, exit the still frame of fake gameplay, and then exit the app download. That doesn’t even touch on the ones that forcibly take you to another app after opening a tab in safari without you ever touching the screen.
I hate advertising. I hate that you can’t do anything without companies jumping down your throat with mostly bullshit ads. I hate that billboards exist. I hate that every company unanimously decided to make their ads longer and longer. I hate that ad blockers try to charge you money and there are in app purchases to remove ads. I hate that my attention has become commodified. I hate that there’s nothing I can do about it.
i like it too :)
I sent this to my husband, and learned he doesn't know what knotting is.
Every so often I wander Buzzfeed looking for the ghost section (they tag nothing and nothing is chronological) and sometimes I see something they're calling strange, like calling The Sexy Fish in Finding Nemo a Hear Me Out, and I'm like. But. That is a conventionally attractive fish.
Please see the tags on this post because you made me think of it and I giggled https://www.tumblr.com/sijuikabisa/809372529095491584

I hope OpenAI goes under. I hope ChatGPT and all similar AI are unplugged forever. And I hope everyone who's been relying on it cries about it.
I also hope everyone whos been relying on it gets the proper help to re-learn how to function as a human person!
& cry about it
