Hello I am here to ask more questions that are more specific this time. I have a Google doc set up for me only which I am writing lore and trying to organize plot ideas and character info.
I will most likely be having each character profile be a post on the account which I will edit over time as the lore changes (but keep each section in their own storylines). What information should I put in the profiles to start? Other than simple things like pronouns, personality, their generation, etc. I do have character hub profiles for each, but they all have backstory info that won't be revealed right away, plus being vague.
How do your archives work? I am having a bit of difficulty figuring out how they work 0_0. And also how were they made?
How much information do I reveal at the start? I see you are around 3 years in (which is insane btw that's amazing dedication) and am wondering how you got your start (but from your pov rather than the posts). Is there a specific way I should pace things? Like should I start with just a few characters and slowly reveal the rest, or show all of them at once? Your blog seems a bit more focused on the slugcats and mine will be more focused on the iterators. I'm likely going to reveal all but one (so 6 out of the 7 (omg it's those numbers... Agagagshsh)) due to lore reasons. Also should I start with comics? Backstory snippets? Go straight into current event plot?
I see a lot of your stuff is organized into character campaigns! I think since mine is more iterator focused mine will be more like chapters with specific names and such. I've only got four different plots so far which I need to organize and actually write out because I only have a vague idea in my head but yeah
How did you get attention to your blog? I don't expect to absolutely blow up over the rain world fandom and have everybody trying to interact, but I do kind of expect it to just sit there and get like. Barely any asks. Especially because I've had social media (to post anyway) for like only a week or something uhhhh (I'm ambitious and trying to do things before I entirely understand how this platform works)
I also realized most of my characters (in this group anyway) are actually kind of horrible people so I really need to learn how to write them better lol. I have an okay amount of roleplay experience. First roleplay experience was just playing outside as a little kid with my family and friends which I do count because I was in fact giving my characters lore (I have always been a storyteller). Second was a year long addiction to character AI (which I will never touch again) but it did kind of make me better at writing even though I am mad at myself for using it. I then roleplayed with one of my friends irl over a Google doc but not for very long. I have recently joined an RP group for a different fandom I'm in as well and not portraying my character well 0-0 but I'll figure it out I JUST started there. I did also try to write a book series once with my gf but we never finished it sadly and haven't been working on it. Anyways that was a long rant and also a lot of questions lol.
That's all for now, but I will likely be coming back to ask for more advice! I have no idea what I'm doing and you have a lot of experience sooooo. Also feel free to write back in as many paragraphs as you want I will read it no matter how long it is :3 also thank youuuu you are amazing and really inspiring and I like your art and lore ^^
Sorry for late reply! Had to figure out how to answer this one ^^'
hmmm, for character profiles on tumblr it's a bit tricky and really limiting. I would suggest using the profiles already set up, and editing them as you go. Since they're already set up though, you could either have a separate one for them with no lore, or copy and paste over the lore as you go. There's no correct way to do things ^^'
I'm a little confused about what you're asking in regard to the archives working, but regarding my process, I have to do each ask individually and put them in. That's why they take so long to set up.
As for starting off, i honestly just kinda winged it. I was already wanting to make my rator group and actual story, and ironically enough, it was supposed to be more rator focused, but I kinda got more hyperfixated on the slugcats. I do suggest just role playing with other people and other ask blogs as that's how I started off myself. (Due to personal bias tho, I'm always willing to put attention on other ask blogs as I understand the disappointment of things not going 100% to plan)
Something to keep in mind is to NEVER rely HEAVILY on asks. Reason being is that sometimes asks are really good while others aren't. (This gets to me a bit too, I admit >.>')
Also, I do owe MASSIVE thanks to @letuko as they kickstarted my blog off by sending a lot of asks. Without them, ga would NOT be here as it is. (ty again! :) )
As for lore to reveal, that's entirely up to you and the pace you wanna do. My blog is relatively slow progress one as of personal preference, but other blogs are quicker. No correct way to do the pace, but I would suggest bringing in new lore slowly at a time. Think of it like writing a book! The author (usually) reveals things, but has a general stance of knowledge as a starting point. The process of how the characters get there is rather important too. I'd suggest introducing the circumstances the group is in, and what key details are needed to understand the rest of the story.
(Ex. Ga's iterators being isolated. How they interact is heavily dependent on this.
Another example would be how Undertale works, the monsters all being located underground.
Last example would be how in (the first one anyways) FNAF, you are a security guard.
Have a starting point so people can understand them and not have events that keep coming up ^^'
Writing horrible characters is the tricky part that I'm trying to learn ^^'
With those guys, it all kinda depends on if you want them to be redeemable, or if they're morally grey, or just generally, how do you want the audience to feel about them? Depending on that would warrant different responses I think 🤔
