Selfishness
Is it fair to dislike someone because they’re selfish? Aren’t we all selfish, to a certain degree?
What’s the line for inexcusable selfishness and what is considered your run of the mill human nature?
Southern trees bear a strange fruit
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root
Black bodies swinging in the Southern breeze
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees
Pastoral scene of the gallant South
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth
Scent of magnolias, sweet and fresh
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh
Here is a fruit for the crows to pluck
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck
For the sun to rot, for the tree to drop
Here is a strange and bitter crop
- “Strange Fruit”, Billie Holiday
Ugly vs. Pretty
What even is "ugly" or "pretty"? Who defines it, who decides it? Who proclaims it to the world and then it is so? I'd like to see what they look like.
My Protector
Cowering in fear of my protector, live giver, nurturer.
What will you do today? Will we go to ice cream after school, or will I have to focus extra hard to the radio to drown out you screams?
Are you taking me to a concert, or are you physically assaulting my best friends?
Are we spending a nice vacation together, or are you accusing me of not being black enough and calling me a whore?
"Who cares what happened back then?" His psychosis tells him.
"What happened back then?" My psychosis asks me.
I cannot forget.
I will not forget.
That you were the one who was supposed to be my protector.

Multiracial Flag
It can represent biracial, triracial, and among other people of mixed races. Multiraciality represents having multiple racial identities in one's ancestry.
There are other words that describes this.
Anger. Anxiety. Depression. A cycle of unwanted feelings. Buddhism has taught me that we SUFFER when we CLING to experiences, feelings, and situations. When we CLING we become ATTACHED. When we SIT AND LISTEN to what is happening within us instead, we can be a PEACEFUL WATCHER in our own mind. Anger, Anxiety, and Depression are not dirty words and should not be avoided, because it is telling us that something needs to change….
Toni Morrison, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature and the Presidential Medal of Freedom, has made such a huge affect on my life. Her writing is beautiful, real, hilarious, sensual, gross, and horrifying, all at once. Toni Morrison has helped me to open my eyes to what this world truly is, and it’s ugly as shit. If you’re ready to start your journey through Toni Morrison’s works, start with her first novel, The Bluest Eye. There are also audiobooks read by the author 🎉
Depression + Psychosis
“Am I the only one I know, waging my wars behind my face and above my throat? Shadows will scream that I’m alone. But I know I’ve made it this far, kid.” - Migraine, Twenty One Pilots. Again, I lean on Twenty One Pilots to make sense of my brain. Stay strong and sexy y’all
Trees
Let us reflect on the beauty of trees. Their beauty changes with each season, and yet, despite that fact, they remain a beloved sight for 365 days a year. When the texture of the sky changes and gives way to an endless blue, shy but curious buds see the world with new eyes. They are pure in their infancy, pale pink and innocent. Gaining confidence along with the Sun so comes their lush and full stage. They shout to the world with their leaves; their personalities, their hopes, their dreams, taking shape and space in the world. Flamboyant and free, this is their time to let their leaves down. All the way down, down, until none are left. The Sun has left them as well. Left Aloe with the aftermath of their self-sacrifice. Barren branches with a solitary strength in their nakedness. No thing to hide behind, no leaves, flowers, or visiting creatures. Stripped down to their bark, for all the world to see. Waiting. To start again.
