Design-Apart: Bringing Italian Design, Craft & Architecture to NYC, and Around the World

Design-Apart brings Italian heart to the homes of New York via their live-in showroom located in Chelsea. I'm delighted to be helping out with their media outreach to extend their mission to everyone, near and far.

If you want to spread design in an evangelical way, what do you need? A showroom filled with objects? A distribution company to get them from the factory to the end user? A collective of artisans and designers? Workshops to educate consumers about design? In the case of Diego Paccagnella's company Design-Apart, an organization "committed to design as a living process," all four of these things. Our team brings the process and products of Italian design out of the

I first met Kevin Dao as he was studying photography in Pittsburgh. Years later, our friendship has remained intact and we both found ourselves in New York. 

Recently, Kevin had me participate in The Wallpaper Portraits. My inclusion is part of a series of 100 shots, all in front of this antiquity looking backdrop. Though the project has been active for the past year, the photographs have nearly all been snapped, and the final product is being assembled.

The most wild of animals come out in this concrete jungle which leaves me in anticipation to see the collection of beasts who shared my same spot in his studio.

THE HOWLING : SHORTLINE

The Howling is a live show by Australian-born, LA-based singer-songwriter ands guitarist Ry Cuming (Dumont Dumont) and Frank Wiedermann, co-founder of German power-house label Innervisions and half of Ame. The Howling — released on Innervisions in 2012 brought out a new sound for the label. Contrasting from Wiedermann’s German house background and Ry’s commercial success with Jive Records, their project incorporates a softer, acoustic sound.

The duo gained public intrigue when Dixon closed his Boiler Room mix from 2012 with ‘Howling’, sparking the first Innervisions release to deflect from a pure dance sensation, yet stay in line with emotional synth lines, and a spooky-sensual male vocal line.

In this beautiful video shot by LA-based Adarsha Benjamin we see Ry Cuming juxtaposing Nana Agypong in a tension-fueled romance that flashes epileptic waves of color with an ultimate splash of saturation in its finale. It’s only appropriate that the video was shot on 16mm in Topanga Canyon, CA.
