Some Malleus Draconia Confort Headcanons
Because I'm pretty down and I need a two-meter dragon tells me nice things
And I also want to share it in case anyone else feels bad.
Oh! and just remember that you are not alone and you are loved.
✦ Notes: Gender-neutral MC and neutral personality. Established relationship (platonic or romantic).
✦ Trigger Warning: MC has depression. Light angst with confort
Malleus notices the change before you say anything. Although he doesn't fully understand how human it is to feel depression, he recognizes the weight in your eyes and the way your shoulders slump without anyone touching them.
He doesn't pressure you to talk. He simply begins to appear more often, silently, like a night watchman (or fairy godmother? haha). He accompanies you, sits by your side on your worst days, letting the silence speak.
Lilia, Sebek, and Silver noticed the concern not only because he has unwittingly caused cloudy days but also because he has been asking and investigating. He wants to understand that sadness and why.
"It's not that simple, Malleus" Lilia answered among the many questions Malleus asked.
"I see…"
"The good thing is... just being there helps." Lilia assured him
Malleus struggles to understand that he can't "fix" what you feel, but he learns to stay, to be with you without trying to cure you as if you were a problem.
On your rainiest days, when he doesn't see you in class or in the NRC hallways, he comes looking for you…
He calls out softly, reassuring himself of your well-being. He doesn't want anything to happen to his first friend in his presence.
From time to time, Malleus brings small gifts and things you might like or need. A sweet treat? It's at your disposal. A hug? Of course! Just ask; he's the generous fairy of thorns personified for a reason.
✦ Bonus ✦
Grim also notices your discomfort, so he tends to be nicer with you and Malleus rewards him with cans of tuna… While this cheers him up, The cat also wants his minion to cheer up.
The dragon isn't scared of your crises. If you cry, scream, or remain motionless, he won't run away or get upset (although the first few times he'll be surprised and a bit clumsy because is his first time conforting someone).
If you let him, he'll take your hand, assuring you that he's there.
"I've lived a lot, and it hasn't all been joy."
He tells you this, his gaze fixed on the horizon. He speaks of his loneliness, of the years without being invited to anything, of the feelings he can't name but that still permeate him. He doesn't do it to compete with your pain, but to tell you: "I understand more than you think."
And when you finally manage to smile, even a little, Malleus notices it as if you'd turned on the sun in the middle of the night. He says just looks at you with those green eyes that seem to light up, and answers you with a very, very small smile.
"Even the oldest castles need time for the moss to disappear from their walls. Allow me to stay with you… until the sun shines through your windows again."
A sweet way to say that there is still beauty, even if you can't see it for yourself now.
