RPING WITH ME

I love plotting. I'm a plotter by default. I will carve up whole AUs just for our muses and go as nitty-gritty as the cultural zeitgeist they're in. Gimme all the plot bunnies.

That being said, I'm knee-deep in work, studies, and research like 80% of the time, so I will definitely be more responsive to asks, prompts, and in Discord in general.

I am mostly mobile these days (see above; being on the computer means work pulls me aside), so it's hard to do threads on mobile because I can't seem to cut them.

I regularly write about state-sponsored murderers and their realities. This does not reflect Mun's thoughts about state-sponsored murdering. This is also true for random acts of stalking, torture, I play someone who turns people into puppets against their will... Does not reflect mun views on such things.

I'm not the biggest fan of formatting. It does not matter to me if my partner does formatting, so long as it is readable. My ask is that you bear with my bland paragrpahs for RPing.

That being said, I have my favorites since some characters have greatly influenced each other enough to be mentioned pretty often, including but not limited to: RasaKaru, RetoChika, SasoSan, SasoKaru, YashaAnko

I headcanon Suna being very liberal when it comes to sexual and gender orientation. It is widely accepted that kids have a phase where they explore what they like before settling somewhere so we have a handful of Suna bisexuals. I also headcanon Suna to not be exclusively monogamous--- for child-rearing purposes. It's starting to get phased out when more children survive and when a couple goes to a mission they can ask a sibling to watch over the kids.

The old woman lays herself in the grass next to him, and he does not react. A reaction is an admission of weakness, and he is a still, silent predator in the grass, and she is interrupting his attempts at a nap.

None would dare ever accuse him of being polite, but he supposes bothering her right back might settle his itch for some peace and quiet better than actual peace and quiet might.

"Ne, that's what all the stretching and calisthenics are for, right? To keep me young forever?" It isn't the back that pains him the most often- his striking hand is near useless with the ache most days, and his migraines always seem to radiate out from his dead left eye. Someone more poetic might find a sense of justice in these things, but most of the time they just piss him off. "Besides, Grandmother, it's very unlikely I will see an age close to your own. Maybe forty, if I'm really lucky."

Kakashi picks his book back up and pretends to read once more, eyes skimming pages he's already read a half dozen times.

"The function of a person is to die," he tells her flatly, like it's something a woman as practical as herself wouldn't already know. "We are born to die, and then we are trained to die. But do you think that... hm... do you think that's all there is? Are we just marching, empty, to the inevitable? Are we not meant to live before all that? Are we not meant to see the others again, in the next cycles of our lives, after our souls have been washed clean of what came before? Or are you one of those that knows there is nothing that comes after."

"Poetic," if nothing else-- Chiyo pointed out, watching the clouds roll by. Her brackish poisoned drink forgotten beside her.

Many religions lived in Sunagakure-- each some odd bastardization of the last. The most popular one mentioned a Sky Father who sent someone to guide souls into the many-layered heaven. Something about how being dutiful meant some better real estate in the condominium of the following life.

Not that Chiyo believed in anything really. But it was less because of some poetic reason.

More because she chooses to be a petty bitch.

"Living this old's not that hard," Chiyo shrugged. Hell, most of it kinda flew past her. "Just tell death to fuck off." She's worked with some Sunans (brilliant ones except for the flaw of) who were rather obsessed with the idea of their own death. Wishing for it. Courting it as if the end would bring any peace. And that was no fun. "Then you continue fishing in your personal pond in the desert, pretend to die every so often-- you gotta throw death a bone here and there-- then in the blink of an eye, four decades have passed."

Izuna's lazy smile didn't flicker, since considering this was from Reto... Yes, he did expect a more straightforward question to come from the Kazekage. "Ah, my kekkei genkai..." Uchiha eyes didn't quite reflect light, not in the same way that other eyes did. The colour was abyssal. Izuna tilted his head slightly, considering. His words came out velvety soft, measured. "It is a great power. There are some who think the cost is worth. But they are... not the majority." He blinked and the shade seemed to shift and he glanced at Chikamatsu with more levity threaded through his voice. "How should the order go, Chikamatsu-ma~? Do you want to ask one of us next~? Or should I..."

Chikamatsu's laughter rang like silver bells in their room overlooking the village square. Lanterns lit up the hustle and bustle of the streets below, wide awake even at this late hour. Their own space, by contrast, was illuminated by the languid flame of a few candles scattered around the sandstone room. Between the haze of intoxication and the dappled lighting, quite a number of things could happen in the dark.

"Izuna-sama, I think you should set the next turn--- having answered the last one, after all," Chikamatu was quick to pour them another round, a sly smile playing on his lips. Reto wasted no time taking in the his cup, watching intently as the game progressed. "But I do choose dare this time."

"I won't take your children, but I will take your place," Orochimaru said, as he wedged a dagger from between Rasa's third and fourth rib. He made sure the blood had a way to flow out of Rasa's body. Orochimaru had fought in an underhanded way that ensured his imminent victory. He gloated over the dying man, "Now, don't worry. I won't put on your Kazekage hat. I brought my own to show to Hiruzen~ All that's left now is the question... what to do with your body. Shall I give you to Sasori-kun, to Kabuto-kun, or shall I save your life? You look like a good conversation partner. It's your choice."

The blood that was supposed to be going into Rasa's brain, helping him think of a way out, was slowly seeping into the desert sands. Divine steel pierced his chest-- although that was the only thing keeping his insides in place. If Orochimaru pulled the thing out--- seconds would be all Rasa had left.

"A thief mistakes possession for ownership," Rasa whispered, more to himself than to his assailant. There was not much to say to Orochimaru after all--- not much that would make a difference.

At the end of the day, it was only a useless observation. Orochimaru, who was never entrusted enough to be given anything--- instead always took crumbs from a table he was never meant to dine at.

The blood was draining at a dizzying speed...

There is a new sign in front of Sasori’s stone house that reads:

“Do not feed Scorpio. (Scorpio is the scorpion)”

Beneath the sign was said scorpion, which was about the size of a common house cat—so a baby, as far as giant scorpions were concerned. She would have been treated as such with a little bed indoors if Sasori didn’t find the hand of one of his experiments peeking out of her chelicerae, gnawing on bone.

Tobirama is fifteen and, according to his unusual friend, 'growing like a weed'. (In a few more years, Sasori will be terribly miffed to find that Senju do not grow like weeds, but in fact, sprout like trees.) He pauses outside the seemingly nothing mound of sand, before the hidden doorstep of which is tethered a scorpion that is the size of a house cat. Tobirama stares at the scorpion, who stares back. Behind the Senju is a sack filled with, ehm, interesting little specimen from-- "Don't feed, huh," Tobirama mutters to himself. "Suppose you'll let me pass without getting stung, then?" He asks, addressing the scorpion, who-- of course, cannot reply.

"She's skittish around strangers." A patch of red hair poked out of the tree trunk where the door to Sasori's workshop was. It was a myth that young scorpions were more venomous than their older counterparts--- but they were more likely to be defensive and sting at the slightest provocation. "But she produces a healthy amount of venom--- quite a lot recently, if you're still looking for some."

Reconstituted to modify whatever struck Sasori's fancy. He's been tinkering with how to convert it into a corrosive gas.

It may or may not be due to a voracious appetite. Giant scorpions could go weeks without food, but this one goes chirping for seconds just a few hours after it's eaten. And growing at an exponential rate at that.

Speaking of--

"Do I need a bigger door?" Sasori turned to Tobirama. And a higher ceiling. Shit, he's going to need to move isn't he.

Rasa looked at Gai.

And then at his youngest son, who was wearing... "Did you steal your mother's eyeliner?" Gaara's non-reply sounded like an affirmative and Rasa was not entirely sure what to do with it. First, he's getting into fights with schoolmates, and now...

"Is this a, uh, a rockstar... phase?"

Orochimaru blinked guilelessly at him, the gesture jarring with the lack of predatory, serpentine quality that he had always carried. "Yes~...?" With a quick pull he finishing tying his hair up, hand carding through the underside to ensure it flowed and sat smoothly over his shoulder. A light smile lingered over his face as the sannin placed a hand over his hip, clearly bemused by the naked hunger in his partner's eyes. So precious. This hunger, that they shared, that consumed them... "Come, now, are you truly surprised? Certainly drawing less attention could only help here." His tone was inviting... Go ahead. Ask your little questions, scorpion.

Sasori narrowed his eyes, perpetually suspicious of his partner. But things were only surprises if Sasori did not expect them--- and he knew what to expect of his partner.

Orochimaru was all smoke and mirrors. And Sasori would not be treated like some child with a treat dangling in front of him-- a reward for acceptable traits. There was always a string attached to the treat, snaking into the bushes and waiting to pounce.

Sasori ignored the bait.

Even as his mind runs through fifteen potential consequences--- he could probably navigate through them. Have his cake and eat it too. If he were just careful. If he could tiptoe over the unspoken quid pro quos and not sign any blank cheques. He wanted to know. He needed to---

"Go to sleep, Ryōzen," he laid the Sandaime's head down until the whole puppet disappeared in a cloud of smoke. The scroll he was laid to rest in was tucked against Sasori's person.

He'll figure Orochimaru out... after a snack...

"Pick a place for us to eat-- I'm going to get changed."

“Mooom, Kankuro is being a brat.” Temari whines impatiently

"I know, Babes, I heard you the first time," Karura sighed at yet another splat of food on the floor. It's at that age that Kankuro has taken to throwing things off his plate to get a rise out of any adult within view. He thinks it's funny when people make faces at him.

Makes days when her husband was too busy to ask for help all the more... lonely.

"I see we're done with dinner," Karura said, picking up her baby boy from the high chair, almost toppling over with the weight of the baby and her swollen belly. Kankuro whined--- not quite the reaction he was hoping for. But that's what babies got when they threw food on the floor and mom has to clean up.

"But not for you, Temari," Karura turned back to her eldest, "You have to finish your food or you're having leftovers tomorrow."

Neji was one of the shinobi assigned to guard Sasori. The Byakugan was an effective means of control. But the man in front of him was entirely different than the other men he had ever seen. His body was a disjointed puppet. No longer human. Something beyond it. He tried to make out the sense of the way his body functioned, how the chakra flowed. There was disjointed limbs that intrigued him as he studied the way the chakra was harnessed into one central area, like a battery pack for his life force. He heard the other's voice, breaking him out of his focus. He looked at him, Byakugan still active. His eyes looked over his face. Sasori was calm. Perhaps, being a puppet had it's perks. A lack of chemical responses in the brain telling him to panic, that he was a prisoner in the Leaf and that the Leaf would and did make examples out of those prisoners. "..." He was uncertain if he wanted conversation or it was a mere observation. Perhaps, it was an explanation. He might have noticed Neji's attempts to make sense of his body. His Byakugan had seen the inner workings of humans a hundred times over. Neji breathed in a small, cold chuckle. "... no one knows what they want in life." The veins around his eyes dissipated. "The act of becoming is excruciating. Not everyone can cut it." Neji was aware at just how difficult the simple act of becoming could be. The only thing that humans were truly put here to do, as he thought, was made so difficult by the inability of others to share in the radical act. He was still yet becoming; and he figures that Sasori was - is? - too. What could it be to become something other than human, and yet have such a human thought? Or were humans, simply, not as unique as they thought, he wondered.

The act of becoming.

And what did Sasori become at the end of the day? Lumps of wood pinned against a wall with enough seals that he could be robbed of sight, sound, smell, and a sense of touch should his captors feel threatened enough. Not that a torso with its limbs on the other side of the room was particularly threatening.

No, he's awake and, unfortunately, alive for the humiliation of this loss.

The act of becoming eternal art that, in the end, he could only brush against with the tips of his fingers.

"Suppose insults would do for prisoners who can't feel physical pain."

His head rolled to the other side, doll eyes moving in the opposite direction. Sasori could barely perceive the prison guard, his chakra muffled by the suffocating seals. His mind was swimming as if underwater-- that did not make the words sting any less.

When has he ever not cut it?

A prodigy in his youth, promoted too quickly up the ranks to the Kazekage's guard. Akatsuki's earliest members. Conqueror of whole countries. And yet... and yet...

It's not as if there was anything else for him if he did win. Like the desert of his life stretched out before him-- forced to traverse the searing sands alone.

I don’t think I’m a good person.

Decent, I guess? Relatively unremarkable—- actually about as average as a Sunagakure shinobi could get. 

Or below average? 

On the softer side? The gods that be were a bit low on the famed Suna ruthlessness when I was coming into being, hah, with mom not being from around here…

Well, yeah, I suppose you need to have good chakra control to be a medic. That’s what they always say. Personally, it might have more to do with mentors than with talent, and if you’re lucky enough to get a… ah, a strict one like I did— I mean, Chiyo-baasama could probably train a rock and it will come out on top, you know?

The rock would spend most of the process wishing for death, mind you, but it'd come out top of the class.

Ah, too dark? Sorry.

No one really minds in Suna. Death, I mean. It's the only real thing everyone can look forward too-- nothing else is promised. Especially, what comes after.

What’s someone gotta do for some fun around here?

I don’t mean the cheap thrills. Sex, drugs, and rocks that roll— we have enough of that back in Suna. Terribly unimaginative.

After that, people always assume I mean violence and the adrenaline of it all—- but even that gets repetitive after a while. There are only so many ways to remove a head from the body before you’ve seen it all. 

I want something new. 

Something I can wrap my teeth around.

Yes. Drag me to the ends of the world and dangle me at the edge of death-- that would be titillating.

People can be interesting too. Unfortunately, most of them work exactly as expected. Of course, Kazekage-sama. Oh, no, think of how people would react, Kazekage-sama. No, we're not allowed to incite international incidents, Kazekage-sama.

Occasionally, you encounter someone a little different.

Those are my favorites.

After all, life’s too short to spend around sensible company.

"I did propose it~." Izuna gestured with a lazy roll of a wrist, eyes crinkled with vulpine contentment. He made no effort to compose himself, yukata loose enough to slip off one pale shoulder. "Go on, ask me something." Only the slightest trace of red around his eyes now, smudged away.

"Go on, King!" Chikamatsu was already pouring the drinks, "Spill the tea!"

Reto blinked. There was no tea in sight, only arrack and the coconut liquor brought from far away. Truly, Chika confused Reto most of the time. He thought for a moment-- something hard to admit to. Something smart, even if he was not.

"Your eyes," Reto started, threading two questions into one in his head. He had only heard of stories of the Uchiha's famed eyes. Legends about how power was awoken in death and the blood of a loved one. Something of that sort. Fairy tale or truth-- Reto could not know for sure. "Was the power worth what it took to achieve it?"

“Unfortunately I do not as we’re an herbalist based operation.” Reni watched as the proceedings moved along keeping her guard up just in case tensions flared again. These trips always drained her as playing the part of upstanding merchant daughter always did. She would be happy when things were paid for and they were heading off to their next stop where she could unwind properly. Her senses were a bit overloaded too from the constant tingle of caution she felt around him so any relief would be greatly appreciated especially before the long trek home. “The younger man over there, Ruka, knows who in that trade around here and who is worth your coin. There also is a nearby village that you can make by nightfall however that is only true if this wraps up soon. If it does that is where I’m heading for a stiff drink and a hot bath.”

Sasori considered his options. He could spare an evening and maybe half a day for his supplies. A village specializing in wooden weapons manufacturing would be ideal.

"If I get this to finish in five minutes," Sasori turned to the merchant-girl, "Will you bring me to the village with the good wood and a drink." A drink and a hot bath looked extremely tempting.

Sasori threw his voice towards the negotiating merchants who were just about to argue over decimals... again. His voice echoed where it needed to conjure the voice of a desert spirit.

"Greed is an ugly thing," his voice, now a woman's sighed somewhere above the merchants. "Do you wish to carry these crates across my desert? Then spare me this mortal haggling. Agree on a number, offer libations in my name, and perhaps the sands will offer safe passage. A storm is coming."

Desert merchants were rarely actively superstitious. But in these parts, no one questioned desert spirits, even if they didn't truly believe in them. You never know.
