guys! I just wanted to say, I'll be on and off during next week cuz I have exams. So I'm going to apologize in advance if it takes me too long to reply... so... ughh. sorry XD
"Didn’t say you haven’t, Axel" he stated, ruffling his hand through his longish brunette locks. Jackson didn’t like it in jail, so of course from that it wasn’t ideal of him to get back in there as many times as possible. Jackson wasn’t trying to be friendly right now, he was trying to be real. He could see that his fellow glader was annoyed and he was just trying to get to the bottom of it. "I’m not fighting about it. I’m just telling you just to stay as positive as you can. Axel, just stay calm. You can’t change anything, none of us can. I wouldn’t miss it either, but it’s needed for when people just can’t get things right" he rambled on. Jackson stared at the guy again, nodding his head slightly. "You think?" he asked, generally.
"I. Am. Shucking. Calm." he gritted his teeth, throwing one rock after the other on the wall. It was finally helping him calm down. His arms were getting tired and talking sped up the process. Jackson also had this way to stay calm that sipped in to the person they were talking too, and Axel wouldn't admit it but it was starting to affect him too. He gave a sigh and plopped down laying on the ground and stared at the sky. "I don't think. I know, and have seen. Stupid runs deep." his first calm words since they started talking.
Honestly, Delilah only wanted to help; her feelings were just only of concern. There was never an intention to irritate anybody or increase the temper that seemingly seemed to rise further and further up right before her eyes. She could deal with temper tantrums - being second in command usually created a similar situation to this. She was more than used to people being angry, with her for choosing the way she deals with certain circumstances or with the way she reacts to things in general. However, she never wanted to be the one to build up even more anger and frustration when all she sincerely wanted was to make sure Axel was okay as his actions didn’t suggest that he was okay. Only less.
A small yelp escaped her lips as the stone just about skimmed her feet, side-stepping slightly to the right. “I’m not butting in. I’m just seeing if you’re okay. I’m sorry for being annoying, really, I am. But you should know I’m only doing this because I give a damn. You could at least pretend that you appreciate the fact I’m even bothered to see if you’re alright, Axel.” Delilah raised her voice slightly in protest, trying desperately to maintain her calm and collective attitude even though it was becoming increasingly difficult to do that.
Axel closed his eyes and cocked his head to the side, "oh you're right, thank you oh so much for being a great company for a party of 1." his voice loud and sarcastic, "I don't know what I would have done without you. What a great second-in-command."
He sighed, as much as Axel wanted to commend her for being selfless and thoughtful, it just irritated him further. Being gentle, kind and all those crap gets you killed in these parts and seeing how soft their second-in-command leader had Axel second guessing the people running this glade. Although he was quite impressed when she raised her voice, seeing her usually calm features distort to something different. She may have a chance, albiet a small one, to live. He had an idea, something that had more than a 50% backfiring back on his face. He was going to challenge her, get her mad. "Happy, oh-so benevolent Delilah?"
"I mean, I don’t have a problem staying the night if you want to explore it. I’m sure we can manage one day. If you want to put our lives at risk to explore it, I’m up for it, since they do need looking at. Dull? Shut up Axel, don’t start. I care about getting out, but I also care about our runners lives and them living. Define what you mean..do you want us to go to an alive one and search it?"
"But you know what happens to runners when they stay there too long, they never come back. I'm not sure everyone would jump in the boat to go staying the night there. Fine, does it really matter if it's alive or dead? I don't think one is going to die soon unless we do something about it."
"You’re right. Maybe becoming giants is a better solution. Crush the competition, literally."
"I don't know if I should commend you or make fun of you for your way of thinking but becoming giants sounds wholesomely better than becoming snake food."
Tris didn’t know how to respond for a second. ”Just be carefull okay, call me if y-you need anything.” She said, carefully. Not wanting to piss off the boy any more.
Before Axel knew it, he could see the girl cowering before him. He clicked his tongue, great, scared her off. He stood up and gave a tap to his bandaged head, "despite you being annoying.. you do make great patch ups." he said begrudgingly
"Oh wow w could I have possibly missed that." she gasped. "That sounds so truly amazing, you have no idea." the sarcastic tone in her voice was evident once again. "I know right, I am always a pleasure to stumble upon aren’t I."
"Oh I don't know, you did say you weren't listening." Axel shrugged, "So it's your lost, I could have divulge the maze's secret and you wouldn't have heard it." he said sardonically. "Almost the same pleasure as stumbling in front of a griever, yes."
Jackson couldn’t stand seeing people get angry over this place. It wasn’t something he could just fix straight away, and he hated that. Jackson was one of them people that whenever they got a problem, they’d just sort it out. However, in this case it was different. He was in the exact same position as Axel, he couldn’t do anything. The boy made perfect sense, and the thoughts running from his mouth were similar to Jackson’s thoughts. “First time I arrived in here, I pounced on somebody to give me answers. I got put into the jail straight away, and then I learnt from that” he chuckled. “Fucking worst place in the world that is, hitting anything other than the wall wouldn’t be worth the boredom in there” he added. Jackson, looked backwards the guy sitting on the floor. “I don’t doubt that, Axel” he stated. “We’ll all get out of here one day, just got to find out what’s holding us back first.”
Axel felt a groan leave his lips as he listened to their leader talking. He rubbed his face in irritation. He couldn't care what happened to him then, it didn't affect him in anyway and he knew first had how being in jail sucked. He'd been there too many times to count. Sometimes he'd get locked in their for no reason because, according to the dumber side of the glade, he became extra motivated to run the next day. "I've been there a lot more than you have." Axel said with annoyance, "and I know that place is boring as shuck, wouldn't miss it if it were destroyed in an accident." he added. He picked another rock out of his the ground and threw it at the wall with accuracy. "you know what's holding us back?? fear and stupidity."
The sudden sound of the solid rock crashing against the wall was enough to set Delilah on edge and make her flinch. Cowering away slightly, she tried to recompose herself before trying to think up a response to retaliate. It was explicit that Axel didn’t want her company, yet she was too stubborn to back away and leave the guy alone in his surroundings. Of course, she didn’t want to go too far and it was normal for people to be angry — being stuck somewhere with no way (yet) to get out would take a toll on people. It was inevitable. Yet, it was the concern that the girl had for fellow gladers such as Axel himself, that did not stop her from trying to find out if there was something underlying. Crossing her arms, Del sighed, knowing that she wasn’t getting anywhere with this conversation but did not budge from where she was currently standing.
"You’re gonna have to do better than that if you want to get rid of me. Plus, I wouldn’t call it being annoying, just more like being concerned. Did that ever occur to you?"
The sudden feeling of anger rose in him. It was only a matter of time before he gets fed up with her company. Axel knew he made himself perfectly clear he didn't want the woman there. And despite throwing numerous rocks against the wall, his fury hasn't diminished one bit, which was something he didn't like when with people. Earlier during his greenie days, he did have a tendency to attack people and despite already having control over that, sometimes he just couldn't help himself, and with Delilah, their second in command suddenly giving a klunk about him just made him pissed even more, his control grip was shaking.
"Actually no. You butting in is just plainly annoying, did that ever occur to you?" he told her back in distaste, throwing a stone near her feet to prove a point he didn't want her there.
"If I thought you were stupid, you wouldn’t be a runner, it’s as simple as that…Yeah, the blades are a little weird to explore if I’m honest. I’ve never got around all of them since I’ve never had enough time, I’ll make sure that we’ll get through them though, however long it takes. Axel, don’t say that. You’ll confuse me more."
"fine. I see your point... the blades are just too far for day exploration, but if could stay the night, we might be able to find something. I didn't say anything confusing though, Bradley. Or were you too dull to understand? what if the grievers is our one-way ticket out of this klunking dump?"
Tris was taken back from the sudden comment. ”U-uh i don’t t-think so. I’m sorry. Did I do something wrong?” Tris asked, suddenly feeling a bit nervous.
"Using your mouth, that's what." Axel scratched his head and standing up slowly. "now move, I have more important things to do."
"I think you’re just mad that I totally cracked the code," Kenna replied with a laugh.
"total jealousy is consuming me." Axel rolled his eyes, "why shrinking anyways? you do know it's going to make running around the maze 100x lot harder."
► Ken was slightly shocked to say the least. The latter was acting like he was holding a knife to his throat instead of merely trying to help a fellow glader out with his cuts. Ken sucked in a deep breath and twisted his neck slightly before speaking: ❝ I don’t care what you say, I’m treating your cuts, that’s that. ❞ Ken was acting bold to say the least, but he couldn’t let his shy, reserved attitude get the better of him on the job. He was supposed to look after the people in the glade. And he was going to do just that. ❝ Or you’ll do what? Whatever you try doing, these are getting cleaned, fight it all you want, but I’ll just get someone in here to hold you down. ❞
But he continued being stubborn, there was enough cream on his skin to last the day, any more and he'd become a shiny ball of eminent sunshine. Plus, he never liked getting his wounds treated, the wound would usually hurt twice then how you got them and the people treating their wounds were just as annoying. "They're already treated, you blind shank. They're just tiny cuts, don't go wasting those healing creams on it." he said, sighing helplessly at the guy's stupidity, pushing the guys out of the way so he could stand.
"I’m surewhatever you were saying was super interesting, but I don’t give a shuck." she said, a fake enthusiastic voice. "How lovely to see you Axel, how are you?"
"It had been the best thing you could ever have listened to, it involved silence and me not moving my mouth." he told her back in an equally faked enthusiast. "Ashe" he acknowledge, "I can see you're still as lovely as ever."
"All I’m saying is that if we find a way to shrink ourselves so that we’re super tiny, we could totally get out of here. I mean it would take ages to get around, but the Grievers wouldn’t even notice us."
Axel gave her a long look before being able to respond. "...If you're going insane, there are medjacks over there to help with whatever insanity you're spouting on about cuz you're clearly whacked up the head."
Once Axel took a seat, Tris started working on the little cut on his head. ”Okay here we go, just keep still, it will be done very soon.” Tris put a bit of alcohol on the cut and quickly cleaned the wound up. Then she took a little bandage and covered up the cut. ”Okay, all done. Are you sure you’re feeling alright. No pain somewhere else?” Tris asked.
"are you always this annoying?" Axel blurted out, he didn't mean to. Well part of him didn't mean to, the other part, just wanted to storm out of there as soon as possible.
