THE PIXAR PROBLEM (it' not what you think)
i feel like a lot of fandoms pride themselves on being gayer than the source material but have they considered being less racist and less misogynistic than the source material as well . could be revolutionary
As layoffs continue across the entertainment sector, not even The Happiest Place on Earth is going untouched. Deadline has confirmed that about 100 Disneyland Resort cast members from a range of departments have been laid off. The cuts include “a limited number of salaried positions” A Disneyland spokesperson shared this statement with Deadline: “With our […]
I have absolutely NO IDEA why the Lilo and Stitch remake is so successful. Every native Hawaiian was begging people not to go see it, even BEFORE the film came out and changed the plot in nefarious ways. Like, what’s the appeal??? Can’t you just watch the original at home??? God. I feel so disappointed in movie audiences. I feel like it’s yet another swarm of “hehe! I don’t do politics!” ignorance at play.
“I wanted to go on a fun cinema outing with friends/family!” Can’t you go see Sinners instead?
“It’s the only family friendly film in cinemas right now!” Can’t you wait for Elio then? If you desperately want to go on a fun family outing so bad, just go somewhere else and wait.
“I want to see the story of Lilo and Stitch in a big movie theatre, though!” …you have the original at home. Just wait if you see a screening of the original somewhere.
Unfortunately, you're never going to get the larger movie-going population to make informed choices about these kinds of things. Folks have been ragging on the live-action remakes for at least a decade and yet they still make millions.
Frankly, when it comes to entertainment, most folks don't ask for much more than colors on a screen (jingle-jangle).
I will say that the marketing made sure that it didn't give away the more damning choices of the remake, so they were able to get a lot of parents and nostalgic folks in initially. Granted, thankfully it's seemed to leave public consciousness quickly, so that's something.

GOING INSANE ABOUT THIS ACTUALLY THEY’RE STUNNING
Okay so it turns out there is a True Love's Kiss in the live-action Disney Snow White remake but this time it is implied to be consensual.
Well, it's something

I want a feature-length Disney or Pixar film with the art style of Far From the Tree, Kitbull, Out, or Self. Like seriously? They’ve successfully experimented with different styles and yet, they’re not using them to their full potential with mainstream feature films. The only diversion was Wish and even then it felt like their typical style with a filter, like, compare it to Far From the Tree and Paperman, and notice how different and more usual it is from those two.
at this point, Disney is too scared to do anything different or subversive. They just want what will turn a profit rather than make art. They used to toe the line between the two very well, but they're really stagnating creatively.
I think a movie in those styles would be really cool- I feel like Flow and The Wild Robot from last year are good indicators that different styles can translate well to features.

Im gonna be so real can yall actually talk about ways we can support trans women in the UK instead of giving all the attention to fucking JKR. I already know that Harry Poter sucks, I wanna know how to actually HELP people. Something something you have to love the oppressed more than you hate the oppressor
Instead of focusing on a TERF who we've known about for at least 8 years and giving her more fucking attention, we should focus on learning about and supporting groups like TransActual, a trans/NB run organization in the UK supporting and fighting for the rights of trans and NB people (tumblr straight up won't embed the link, suspicious)
https://transactual.org.uk/who-are-transactual-uk/
Im a usamerican and it took me literally googling "how to help trans women UK" to find them. The people on tumblr in 2025 aren't going to stop engaging with jkr no matter what you say, please put your effort elsewhere
How controversial is it of how Disney treats their cast members
Not much. Largely because there are plenty of people who are just happy to work there as well as the idea that it's "the happiest place on Earth", so people aren't looking into it too much.
The fact that so many jobs there don't have unions or pay above minimum wage are red flags. Granted, I don't think cast members are treated as badly as say, Amazon employees, but they could definitely improve a lot

Why does Disney think that the world still wants more Frozen? I’m mad that the Tiana show got canceled, but I bet you that if Disney had the opportunity to make a Frozen show, they’d jump at the opportunity and give it a thousand seasons.
It's definitely still popular, though it's not what it once was.
The Tiana show was cancelled because of the anti-DEI sentiment going around a lot of corporations.
Granted, at this point in time, I don't know hoe profitable TV is for Disney at this point in time.

Disney's Snow White is DOA | Rachel Ziegler Has Nothing to Do With it
Maybe Snow White might make numbers overseas but honestly I don’t have high hopes for this movie at all
Unfortunately, that's what we say every year, every live-action remake that hits theaters, and what happens?

It'll probably be a write-off in the end. They spent too much on it despite it being something no one wanted. Might as well mak- a few million dollars rather than have the movie sit in the vault.

also im gonna riff on the lilo & stitch reboot bc it's gonna suck and we all know it BUT. BUT. i will hear NOTHING bad about the lil girl playing lilo. maia kealoha is the cutest little angel in the world and from the trailer it looks like they literally just shook a lilo & stitch dvd until the real lilo fell out. she is a baby and a rising star who looks like she's having the TIME of her life and i hope she made BANK from this and we all protect her forever
Sources confirmed Tuesday that local man James McDermott, despite living on a doomed planet, was mostly concerned about the skin color of people in movies. According to sources, the 36-year-old software engineer, who is an occupant of a world with a devastated ecosystem, dwindling natural resources, and a climate growing more uninhabitable each and every day, spent the majority of his leisure time debating whether certain skin tones were realistic for fictional characters who inhabited fictional worlds on-screen in films and television shows, most of which he did not watch.
