She understood his unease and the reasoning behind his silence. She probably understood it better than most. So dictated by his loyalty to family and their well-being, he’d sooner endure any heavy burden on his own than to let anyone in on the inner workings of his mind. That didn’t stop her from trying, when she stepped into the room as he finished getting dressed. “ You’ve been awfully quiet lately. I hope you know you’re not alone. I’m here… ”
Even in his current condition, he didn’t feel like worrying the others. That was a heavy burden to put on someone else, and he felt it was responsible of him to go through this alone. But he heard her approaching, and he lacked the energy to move from his current position.
He looked composed-- exhausted and in pain. More so than he could remember, but even then he still appeared to be himself. He didn’t look like a man who was hours away from his deathbed.
❝I--❞ he paused, uncertain as to what he would say to her. He just reconciled with her. He didn’t want to feel responsible for causing her anymore pain. ❝I was just reflecting--these past few days. I didn’t want to be a bother to you.❞
