In my experience, this is exactly what it means to be human. At least a large part of it. You have to learn to cope with death, you have to keep on living when those you love die. You have to keep their legacy alive. My life was greatly shaped by the death of someone I was very close to. I learned quite a bit from that experience. Being human means coping when you don't think you can. Being human means living when it doesn't seem worth it. Being human means existing when it doesn't feel right. Being human means making your life worth something because you have learned that it doesn't last long.
