[ ELLA BALINSKA, CIS FEMALE, SHE/HER ] shh ! GRACE JOHNSON, the ( TWENTY ONE ) year old THIRD year POLITICAL SCIENCE major from WASHINGTON, D.C., is known as a DIAMOND around here. SHE was invited to join because HER PARENTS MET IN THE CLUB, and now, they’re here to stay. hi! it’s me! willow! remember me? it’s okay if you don’t. i’m the one with the computer and phone problems and just lots of problems in general. but i finally got around to making an intro. i’m gonna link my app here but it’s wildly long so i’ll list a little bit about grace!

her parents met in the opals!! HOW ROMANTIC IS THAT!!! her dad is a senator and her mother is a journalist. she grew up in D.C. and used to want to be a ballerina (so cute!!!). 

she’s wildly driven and has been working her entire life to be the very best that she can be. she’s never been one for distractions whatsoever and even though she definitely knows to have fun she’s very no nonsense and will do anything in her power to get what she wants.

her brother killed himself her junior year of high school. her brother (at duke for basketball) drifted further away from her and her parents did as well. she felt very lost and alone when this happened & it made her feel extremely lonely because he was honestly her best friend. 

it was around this time her father told her about strathmore and the opals and that became her absolute new obsession and what she filled all her time thinking about. well that and being either POTUS or a Supreme Court judge!!!! 

her mother was diadem and that was her ultimate goal — to be diadem of the opal society at strathmore. (womp womp!!!!!)

she believes her circlet is her family and takes a great pride in the society!!! it means everything to her!!! she definitely shows a softer side with them & definitely is more... vulnerable with her circlet. but yes they are her best friends and her family but she also is very hard on the prodigies but in a tough love kind of way!  ok enough about my child!!! here are some wanted connections! 

i would die for someone who reminds grace of her brother who passed. someone who is quiet and maybe a little nerdy and probably a lot sad. someone she instantly takes a liking to and feels an innate need to protect. i would love a sibling like relationship! OR someone who reminds her of her older brother? someone who feels protective over her? give me familial dynamics here ok i’m dying.

ok, ok. give me someone who she despises, but there’s an underlying tension here. maybe someone who initially took her at face value and underestimated her. someone who assumed she was just another spoiled rich girl. someone she can really argue and debate with. someone who loves getting under her skin and she loves returning the favor. i would just love to see this side of grace where she’s not always poised and proper!

grace has always dreamed of a fairytale romance just like her parents’. i would love to have someone she has a real romantic interest in. the catch here, is i would love to see it be unrequited! someone (preferably in her circlet) who she set her eye on as her dream person and they didn’t want anything to do with her. or maybe they’re oblivious to it/involved with someone else. ORRR someone who’s a current prodigy and she’s trying to hide her affection for in order to not break the rules.

i would looooove for grace to genuinely have a Best Friend. she became very close with her circlet and considers them like family and has let them in more than anyone else in her life but i live for ride or die friendships! someone who has her back no matter what and vice versa.

other shorter ideas include: a bad influence!!!, someone she helps tutor since she’s rather good at that, a drunken (or not) one night stand with someone where now it’s awkward!!, an ex fling that ended weirdly, a sweet innocent crush-like situation, a flirtationship where they aren’t dating but everyone assumes they are, annnnd so much more. i live for connections, so trust me when i say i will take any and all and love to brainstorm them!

grace decided to compile a scrapbook full of photos that she’s taken (and been given by others) to gift to the prodigies when they are accepted into the society. she has handwritten advice, stories, inside jokes, and little notes for each member. she is extremely excited to be able to give it to them and only a few prodigies know it exists. there’s a few opals she’s told about the project but she wants it to be a surprise for everyone in the family.

grace is very proud of her fashion sense and takes great pride in picking out the perfect outfit on an every day basis. she tends to wear mostly black & neutrals, with some pinks and blues peppered in. she tends to wear clothes that are both modest and sexy at the same time. she adores silks & fake fur, as well as wool sweaters. she also loves wearing dresses one day and suits the next — she’s not afraid to mix feminine and masculine in her wardrobe. she’s almost always wearing heels, even though they usually push her past 6’. sometimes she will wear non-heeled boots or sneakers. she feels as if you cannot ever be overdressed and even her fellow opals have probably rarely if ever seen her in sweats or traditionally “comfy clothes”.

               There were few warnings bestowed upon Kevin, from the passenger’s seat of Rhys’ car. There was just the one, actually: Grace is tipsy. But, where he finds her, with an impressive lineup of drinks one the counter in front of her, she seems… fine, actually. She hasn’t said anything, but she’s not giving off any of the typical warning signs that he’s familiar with. He squints at her, appraising. “Hey,” he greets, drawing out the syllable. “How’s stuff?”

grace was tipsy. not drunk, tipsy. there was a difference, damnit. she knew how to control her drinking. sure, knocking back a bunch of hot toddies with arah probably wasn’t the best idea. but she was having a good time! vibing, as one might say. “ kevin! ” grace smiles brightly as she looks up at the prodigy. “ stuff is great! do you want a drink? the soup’s almost done! ” she gestured to the instant pot. “ it’s vegetable soup. i hope it’ll be good. anyway! welcome! glad you could make it! ”

“ why? who’s breaking rules? what do you know? because now you have to tell me. ” she may have been wildly drunk but she suddenly got very serious. “ because i take this society and it’s rules seriously and if you know something, you have to tell me right now. i’m not kidding. i don’t care who it is — no one is above them. everyone is just as responsible as the next. us opals have to be a good example for our prodigies & our prodigies are the people we are handing the society over to next year. and i don’t know about you, but i take that responsibility seriously serious. ” her words are slurred but her eyes are dark fire. “ so tell me! right now! ”

what was your relationship like with poppy?

“ i loved poppy. ” the words come out easily, dripping from her lips before she can even think. “ love, poppy. as in, i still do. present tense. she’s part of my circlet. so she’s family. but, i mean... when i lost diadem the first time it was genuinely very hard on me. it was one of the only times in my life i had ever failed. actually? it might had been the first time... ” she ponders that for a second. “ anyway. that’s not the point. the point is that... poppy was so genuine and gentle about the entire thing. she was the perfect diadem. and in the end, i couldn’t even be resentful. not at all. poppy is... perfect. she’s full of life and light and... she was who we needed. she was my friend and i miss her. and i’ll do whatever it takes to find her. because we will find her. and she’ll come home. and she’ll live in the room diagonal from mine. and everything will be okay. ”

grace made a face. “ please don’t make me pick a favorite!!! i like a lot of the prodigies. but you know chloe is my favorite so... why would you even ask me that... when you know how i feel...? ” she slurred her words, leaning against the wall. “ listen. i think a lot of the prodigies are great. there’s... alejandra... jace... uhhh... josie!!!! zoya’s great... fred!!!? there’s a fred, right? i swear there was someone named... riley? or... was it... lola? ....sometimes i mix up some of their names... but shhhh. don’t tell anyone that!!! they can’t know!!!!!! i’m getting them all christmas presents... i gotta ask chloe to help me...” she trailed off. “ what was i talking about? anyway. chloe’s great. no one i would rather have as my prodigy. that’s what you asked, right? ”

how do u feel about ur ex, mister rhys taylor?

“ mister rhys taylor? ” she smiled brightly, letting out a soft laugh. “ i know some people say you can’t be friends with your exes, but i disagree. our relationship has progressed into a really beautiful friendship and i genuinely have so much love for him. sure, we bicker a lot and sometimes i just want to smack him upside the head, but i am really glad he’s in my life. ” she shrugged. “ sometimes... people come into your life for a reason. and i’m grateful he came into mine. ” // @rhystcylor

what made you choose polisci as ur major? do you regret it?

“ since i’m going to be a two term president of the united states and then a supreme court justice after that, no. i don’t regret it. i think it’s vital to my future career, wouldn’t you say? ”
