Duet Song: "Blackbird" by Chris Colfer (from "Glee") Story: The girls are playing sisters, getting over the loss of a beloved pet bird and realizing that he is in a better place now; as such, the girls' facial expressions start out very sad but become more hopeful as the dance goes on. At 0:04, McKaylee does a balancer onto the stage en releve with her feather in her right hand while the song says "Blackbird singing," and then does another balancer off of releve the other way during "in the dead of night." During the instrumental interlude, she does a posse turn further out onto the stage, landing in a back tendu and placing the feather in her bun. During the "take these broken wings," she steps forward starting on her right foot, holding her arms out, and during "and learn to fly," she does a jete forward. She lands and then goes down onto her knees, before sitting down on her heels. When the words go "all your life," Simrin ronde de jambes backward three times to get onto the stage, holding her feather to her heart, then steps backward twice more during the instrumental interlude. She chaines further out onto the stage ("you were"), then does a needle into a forward somersault ("only waiting"). Both girls developper their inside leg up (McKaylee does left, Simrin does right) above their heads during the "for this moment to arrive." Then they both roll to the back and stand up. First Simrin and then McKaylee do a pivot turn into a pas de chat (away from each other). They then both swivel their working leg inward, then outward into a flick kick, followed by a chaine into a side aerial. When the words start up again (at ~ 0:29), the girls do a fouette a la seconde sequence for "blackbird singing in the dead of night," with Simrin dropping out after the word "dead" (while also dropping her feather onto the stage) so that she can run up behind McKaylee. During "take these sunken eyes," Simrin puts her hands in front of McKaylee's eyes, and then takes them away during "and learn to see." Again during "all your life," both girls ronde de jambe backwards four times, and then triplet forward, step, and do a jete. They then cross forward on opposite feet and do a middle leap away from each other (hitting the top of the middle leap during the word "free." During the next "blackbird," McKaylee start doing the balancer sequence from 0:04 again. During the "fly," she posse turns into a chaine into a tour jete, and then Simrin does it during the second "blackbird, fly." During the "into the light of the dark black night," the girls do a back-coupe turn sequence. During the last "fly," the girls both do an arabesque en l'air to opposite corners of the stage. They then roll to the floor and stand back up on opposite feet, doing coupe-chaines (I think that's what they're called - when you start turning with one foot in coupe in front of you, then do a half-turn and have the other foot in coupe behind you, switching after every half-turn) towards the center of the stage. When they both reach the center of the stage, they do another turn sequence of fouettes. During the "ba-da-da-das" before the words start up again, the girls improv. When Chris starts singing again, the girls go down on their left knee and do a rond de jambe en l'air with their right knee to get down onto both knees. Then they both do a toe rise during "fly," coming down on the second "fly." They then roll onto their backs and do some leg work before doing a backwards somersault to standing position. During the next "into the light of the dark black night," both girls do a forward aerial towards the front of the stage. Then they do an attitude turn sequence as the music slows down before posing just as the song ends. As the song ends, McKaylee takes her feather out of her hair and drops it, looking mournfully out at the audience, while Simrin puts her arm around McKaylee. The two then walk off stage together, looking sad.
Side Notes (optional): The song starts at about 0:04 and ends at about 1:37. All times given are for the uncut song, as seen on the Warblers soundtrack. The feathers are worn in the girls' hair for most of the dance; they are easy to take out but are still firmly in place enough to not be an issue during the girls' dancing and tricks.
