Creative Writing Tarot Spread
Writers block bogging you down? Use this 7-card spread to help jumpstart your creativity! This prompt can help you generate a very basic storyline.
First, pull a character card! Decide for yourself what this means: will your character carry the traits of the positive meanings of this card? Will your characterâs conflicts be brought about by the cardâs negative meanings? Will your character look like the figure depicted on the card? Will they wield the item depicted on the card? (Note: if your story has multiple main characters, you may wish to pull a card for each)
Next, pull the plot cards! Pull a card for the beginning of your story, a card for the middle, and a card for the end. Again, let yourself decide what this means. Do these cards describe your characterâs emotional state(s) as the story progresses? Do these cards describe internal or external conflicts? Do these cards represent other characters your MC will meet along the way?
Finally, pull your meat cards! These cards are the âmeatâ of your story. Pull one card for the main or most important setting of your story, one card for the main conflict, and one card for the resolution of that conflict.
Have fun with it! Remember that these cards are just tools, and this spread is simply to kickstart your brain. If you get halfway through the spread and come up with something on your own, or if you start writing and realize your plot is deviating from what the cards gave you, donât stress about it! You write for yourself, not for the cards. Thank them for their help and continue on with your own imagination.

Hello! Long time to no see! Iâm very much still writing, but I havenât been able to post much of it due to a mix of health issues, real life stuff, and perfectionism. Ironic considering this blog was meant to ease that, but eh.Â
Posting may be few and far between but this blog is definitely still here and in use! Iâve decided that this blog (my writing blog) would be the best place to cross post what Iâve been writing in The Ssum, which has a number of message boards as part of itâs game mechanics. I still have a number of WIPs tucked away, but game addict that I am, this overlap is wonderful for me.Â
I really want to be able to share the sci-fi story Iâm passively pittering around with, so! I hope anyone that comes to see it will enjoy!Â
âIf my liver fails me, you can cut it out and feed it to the damned thing that shadows your footsteps.â
The barkeep whistled in appreciation. âDamn. Whereâd you get that one? What spooky artifact spat that out this time?â
He downed his shot before sinking down to lean his head against the cool bar counter; the shot glass still clenched in his grasp.
âAlright, youâve had enough,â She said, attempting to pry it from her customerâs hand- but she couldnât pry the shot from his grasp.
âYou certainly donât seem possessed.â
âI mean. I donât feel possessed, if Iâm honest. Though the sudden thought that I could pull you down by the hair and tear your throat out with my teeth is concerning.â
âAh. Maybe we should bump that exorcism up to Thursday?â
âMaybe. If itâs any help, Iâm not inclined to act on it? The mouth feel of a wind pipe would be horrible.â
â....Letâs make it Wednesday. And Iâll schedule you an appointment with our familyâs therapist as well, if you like.â
âReally covering your bases, huh?â
Hop like A rabbit!
âRun, run, run,â they chanted in their mind, their mothers little tune ringing in their head as they sped forward.
A mad dash to get there in time. This appointment was incredibly important; first impressions were everything.
They were everything to them at least.
Important, important, important.
They knew there wasn't REALLY no coming back from a bad first impression. People were more forgiving than some could be given credit for.
But it was hard to forget when something was wrapped around your neck and whispering the worst in your ear.
Logically, anything can be overcome. they promised themselves this as they pushed inside the courtroom door.
They had been summoned here, and they desperately hoped for an interview. some part of them knew this wouldn't likely be the case. Or was that a whisper in their ear?
Who knew.
They sure didn't.
A heavy slam of doors, and pounding of a gavel. What was this all for?
Who knew, who knew.
They would soon learn.
They felt something thick lodge in their throat. As if their adam's apple had receded to hide, to make them look less intimidating. They hoped to whatever entity that controlled such things that it worked.
"Hi, Hello!" they greeted as they walked in, their own footsteps ringing loud in their own ears.
Has it been five minutes? The walk, no, run, here had felt like a blink. They hoped that no one noticed the way their dress shirt clung to their underarms or, worse, the way it clung to their back like a second skin.
"Yes, Hello." A dim, dry response was given in return by the judge on her bench. She let her greeting steep in their nerves.
"How are you today?" They followed a typical small talk script.
"Fine. Now," She turned, rustling papers. " [redacted]?"
"Yes?"
"Mm. that will do."
"That's all?"
"No. Your job request has been granted." The judge released a sheaf of paper into the air, where it waved and flew to the point of their height. It was easy to pluck out of the air.
Looking at it, it read,' JOB ASSIGNMENT NO.154839 APPLICATION: GRANTED.'
"Further details will be mailed to your home address. That is all." and with that, the judge turned back to her work, ceremony over.
"Thank you!" They called. The judge merely hummed in response.
"Have a nice day!" they called once more as they returned through the door they had entered in. They were shaking and their heart pounding, but they had been granted their job request.
Calloo, Calay.
'How long has it been?' they wondered. 'Has it been five minutes since I've left home?'
13.) cafune - the act of running your fingers through the hair of someone you love
Will really needed to keep a cork in it.  It was only due to the fact that our poor, captive princess was so sheltered that his blatant admiration and watchful observance of any little need she might have flew right over her head.   Maybe she was used to people treating her like that; she was royalty after all.   Maybe it was Sir Knightâs resting sullen pout as he did her favors- like gently pulling debris from the forest floor out of her hair when she insisted on sleeping on the bare ground, or offering her a comb from his wash kit- that convinced her that he was only acting out of a grudging courtesy.   Maybe it was because weâd abducted her. I mean, we had saved her life by doing so, but I donât think sheâs figured that out yet. In a way, these past few days have been easier for it- and we only had a dayâs more travel ahead of us.   Which is why I really wish my friend would stop looking like he wanted to comb his fingers through her highnessâs hair- His grace might kick him from guard duty at this rate.   I donât hate the princess, though sheâs snippy and quarrelsome, itâs understandably so. Getting ripped from a marriage by two foreigners and carried off will do that to anyone. Iâm just not willing to stay up all night guarding her from an entire camp with an ax to grind. Â
24.) meriggiare - to rest at noon, more likely in a shady spot outdoors.Â
It has been a long day at school.   âArenât they always?â Jacob responded to himself, sardonic. He dropped his bag at the door of his home and hung his overcoat on an over sized chair as he passed by. He wasnât really paying attention to where he was going as he picked through his day, trying to figure what about the had left him feeling so tuckered out.   Discounting minor things that his classmates did that they couldnât really help- staring at him, giggling over anything, gossiping about this and that, crashing into him when they roughhoused in the halls- he really couldnât think of anything.  As he came to the conclusion that they day had simply gone on for longer than he could handle, he opened his bedroom door.  He shed his layered clothes as he padded over his messy floors, already littered with dirty laundry dropped in the same fashion. By the time heâd gotten to his frigid bed, he was idly thinking about sun warmed fields sheltered by the occasional, sparse tree.   Jacob imagined it would be comfortable under one of those trees, shaded from the direct noon sun, but warmed to the bone nonetheless. He sank further into the daydream as his extremities warmed underneath his quilted blankets, lulled to sleep by thoughts of an impossible summer.Â
"Well supposedly, I'm a really good writer, and who am I to argue against the masses? ...What with their pitchforks, and ah. What are those, torches?"
"No," he leaned into the saddle, squinting. "Those are lit molotov cocktails."
"Oooh. We should run."

The robed man took something from aâŚ.belt? Inner sleeve pocket maybe? He threw it harshly on the ground, then rubbed the soles of his feet against the itemâs debris.Â
Just what was that for? Bad enough that he was stomping around the back of the temple, but now he was grinding rubbish into the freshly scrubbed floors! Â
  Damn, Iâve been seen.Â
Cracking open a cling oil egg hadnât been his wisest move, but to be fair, it wouldâve been fine had the room been empty.Â
That Attendant walked in at the worst possible moment. I really should have heard her coming with all this echoing stone. Shame someone wove something to dampen sound into the tapestries..... Â
The Count looked back at the Attendant, who looked, he supposed, rightfully annoyed as she strode toward him.Â
I mean I did just smash some foreign object and rub it into the tile.Â
And with no remorse, he caused her to whirl around with an affronted gasp as he chucked another one behind her, then slid up a wall without a word. Â
