“Sometimes I just want to pull the plug. My health is compromised, memories are history, friends have moved on, my heart is empty, and my soul is missing.”
Almost 3 years has passed since my life has gone down a downward spiral, and I must admit, I have come a long way into recovery from addiction. Back in October 16, 2013: I was involved in a roll-over accident and wrecked my truck, leaving me with head trauma and a mental breakdown (in which later down the road was diagnosed as P.T.S.D. and also chronic depression). Every night since then I couldn’t sleep, hyperventilated, and severe night terrors. After many months of dealing with this, the only solution for me was to either drink or do any drug that came my way. For a while it did ease my mind, however, i just wanted more and more and more until it got to the point I started to have seizures regularly, but i just couldn’t stop. Starting off, i tried normal ‘party drugs’, but out of all of them, meth is what really latched on. I did the best i could to not make it a daily thing, and it ended up happening. Eventually after going through the daily motions, it just started to eat me up inside every day until i could feel nothing more.
After a few months, i was losing my appetite, lost weight, and was completely pale. Eventually after that period, things just got worse: I was suspicious of my friends, i had no money left, lost my apartment, my job, killed another car, my family was losing hope in me and made the love of my life’s life absolute hell... All because i wanted satisfaction out of this pitifully, evil fucking drug.
A year and a half later, I had finally quit, but i got consumed with alcohol as a substitute (not that that is any better). At that point, i was completely desensitized with everything around me....and i just did. not. care. Fast-forwarding to another year: i was a full blown alcoholic and had no goals except just to work in a crappy job and barely survive. Over the year though, I have had many many episodes of seizures; and quite frankly, they got worse every time.
Then there was a night that another seizure was coming on except 10 times more aggressive than usual. But it landed me into the hospital for at least a day. This was a true moment that i needed to realize that it just wasn’t worth it anymore. I mean...what am I doing to myself? Why am I doing this to myself? What’s the point? I’ve let so many people down in bettering myself, especially my family and my significant other..i just wish i can go back and just say no...no..nooo. NOO. NOOOO! At this point i just want a second chance, but i guess it doesn’t work like that, does it?
Now here i am 3 years later: My number one priority was to better my psychological health, check; Gain back the weight I lost, check; Haven’t had any seizures in months, check; and well financially? Still a work in progress. Let this be known to anyone who is reading this: If you are dealing with addiction or alcoholism, you can do it! You CAN beat it. Addiction is one of the biggest issues that we have in our country today, but that doesn’t mean that it’s an endless battle, it’s just the training life gives us to prepare for anything that comes our way. And don’t forget that.
