Greetings traveler! Welcome to a Game of DnD!
Yes, im serious.
Why are you laughing?
To my two players thus far, @contentraven-is-doing-things-now and @cosmic-tuna , thank you both for indulging me! Im starting to get the skeleton of a story out of our interactions, and im excited about what's to come!
I had a question for the two of you on how you'd like me to run battles, especially since Gale (Raven's character) seems right about to start one.
We could do realllly long reblog chains to track the whole fight, but that seems ludicrously slow for the medium of a Tumblr based Campaign. I could just roll a couple dice by myself and TELL you who won, but that doesn't seem fun or fair. So there's probably a happy medium somewhere where we can just cover the umbrella concepts of the fight, and your characters agency within it, without having to analyze every last step. How do you feel?
"I want to head to the tavern for a nice drink and ask about the volcano! Is it active?" - @cosmic-tuna
The Bartender, who is either a very tall dwarf or a very fat elf, passes you some mead, muscle memory making him say that it'll be 2 gold for the Beverage.
"Only in our stories. When the portals up there were active, the demon lords caused the volcano to go off all the time, making all sorts of displays of power. But ever since the defeat of the Grand Warlock, (what, 150 years ago? Thereabouts, anyway) the mountain hasnt done anything but bubble. There are still a couple of lava flows near the base, but they dont flow anywhere that'd do any harm. Mostly a tourist site nowadays. Nobody's found the portals themselves, though. Probably buried in the Lava, I say."
"Bubbling. So, still active. Which means it's perfect for an investigation! Not the portals, I mean. I don't care about that part."
And the traveler, who is probably a human or an elf sporting an explorer's bag with a few little add-ons, pays two gold for the mead. She seems very excited about the volcano. Tuna claps her hands with mild excitement.
She downs the ale. "Any patterns to the flowing? And can anyone just go and visit?"
A similar question was answered (<-Clicky Link!!!) for @contentraven-is-doing-things-now . Perhaps the two of you will cross paths soon?
Because I'm leaning into this I just wanna let you see my artificer, now that I've drawn her
A very Strapping young woman.
@contentraven-is-doing-things-now had a character creation question, and I think the answer to it will answer alot of questions all at once.
Hellside is what's known as a Port'l Town. Ages ago, when the town first settled, it primarily linked to the nine hells from inside the volcano, but it was soon discovered that this area was very conducive to portals of all kinds.
It was also discovered that there was more than one material plane for the portals to link to. The cosmological planes (celestial, elemental, etc) were the same for everybody, but it almost seemed like there were countless material planes.
There are many such Port'l Towns. Fakebog, Yöt Hube, the Redd Wits, Pintarasse, The Institute of Graham (or Inst. Gram.) and others. Hellside was once a popular Port'l town, but nowadays it's quite a bit smaller. Some less informed travelers even seem to think that Hellside was destroyed.
Because of all this, it's reasonable to assume that Any Chatacter Creation Options are available to you, it just means that your character is probably from a different material plane.
(Be forewarned: The dm allows content past 2024, but is unfamiliar with it. Tread lightly.)
This information will be added to the Intro post Soon.
hello i am a changeling rogue, i came to hellside to study the rocks xoxo
What's your main purpose in studying the rocks here?
What does your base Changeling form look like OR what form do you tend to 'present' in?
"My artificer, they're an Air Genasi by the way, considers this and decides to see if the local tavern needs any repairs that I could provide so that I can earn some coin." - @contentraven-is-doing-things-now
Air Genasi are generally pleasant folk, so we'll give this Cha roll a plus 2. It totals out at 13.
The bartender regards you for a moment, stroking at his beard. (Surely he's a Dwarf, right? What kind of Elf has a beard?)
"Yes, there's a thing or two around you could do for me. I've an old cellar I cant really use anymore because it's filled with swarms of rats. If you could make it usable for me again, I'd pay you handsomely."
"Also..." He lowers his voice, and after checking the room, he leans in a bit. "I've had my eye on the young maiden whose pa runs the Smithy down the road. We often walk the path into town at the beginning of each morn' and I'm building up the courage to propose, but I need a real quality gem for the ring I plan to give her. If you can track down a good ring, or even just a good jewel, I'll DEFINITELY make it worth your while..."
"My Artificer would like to go closer to the volcano to collect materials." - @contentraven-is-doing-things-now
Going up the volcano would be quite treacherous. There are some smaller lava flows around the base of the mountain, but they are very minor, and are controlled tourist attractions, so you may have to get permission from an authority if you wanna get close enough to gather 'ingredients'.
It's possible you could find a guide to take you up the mountain, but that will cost a pretty penny. You may need to accrue some funds to hire someone like that. And you'll have to find someone like that...
