amelia & dominic
a breathe she didn’t even realize she held to this point left her lips when he stayed right where he was. next to her. where he should be. for as long as her dad demands it that is. amelia knew what speaking of her feelings might do- the consequences they’d suffer. her father was a wise man, but a cruel one as well. loyalty was a word he lived by and expected no less from his family and employees. it would cost dom’s job and amelia’s freedom but still, her eyes shot down to where their hands met and for a moment she let herself imagine what it would be to hold his hand in public, without worrying she’d get him in danger she knew she won’t be able to get him out of. the light shake of her head indicated she exited the state of a sudden daydream and her eyes met him once again. a slight smirk appearing on her features at the mention of the bartender from earlier. “as if i’d ever leave with him.” she stated, a silent reassurance she knew he deserved, “and, i thought you knew by now that i don’t do cheesy stuff like phone numbers on napkins.” am shacked her head and turned to take her towel so she can shake off the sand it was covered in from dominic’s antics not too long ago. “did you have fun on your own?” she asked, “any girls distracting you from your job?” she mumbled out the following, managing the courage while she was still faced away from the man.
there were certain things he knew he could pass off as simply doing his job. fingers ghosting against amelia’s back when they were walking by large crowds, or even lounging only inches away on the beach after today’s earlier events. he was always prepared to explain his actions to her father, the man he owed everything to. he knew his betrayal was the worst thing he could do to mr van buren, but some things were simply inevitable. even before he started working for the van burens, he was closed off to anything relating to an emotional relationship. he thought he could keep that up, but that had been proving more difficult as of late. a grin spread on his lips as she reassured him, and a short laugh followed as she jabbed at his flirting tactics. “well of course. you are a van buren after all. though, from my experience, your taste is a little below your standards. and pretty dangerous.” he teased. historically, hooking up with bodyguards was never the greatest of ideas. he quirked an eyebrow at her question as she turned away from him to finish cleaning off the towel. dominic fought off a small smile at the words as he sat himself in the sand with a sigh. “well, there is one distraction i can think of. even though her swimsuit probably cost more than my first two cars combined, she’s got me hooked.” he slid his ray-bans back over his eyes, leaning against his arms as he looked over at her, taking in the sight one more time behind the veil of his sunglasses.
