A Break Down of Why You're Missing Out if You Miss The Fifth Quarter
Why You Should Be Staying For The Fifth Quarter
So, I don’t have any followers on here. I suppose it’s because I don’t really post anything or because the things I do post don’t really have a common theme. Anyway, I just felt like posting something for today. I’ve had a lot of studying to do because I’ve been ill the last few days and dealing with the shit that goes along with my family dealing with the sick “grandmother”. So, I took a second to say that I am alive. And it makes me feel better, even though I know it’s possible that nobody will ever read this. I am alive, and I am okay.
Guilt?
My "grandmother" is dying. I have to use that term in the loosest sense possible because she was never a real grandmother. She lived with my family when I was younger and babysat my siblings and I because both of my parents and my older sister had to work in order for us to survive. But whenever they could, our parents would be with us. Anyways, the grandmother would watch us over the summer and after school. This is how she babysat: if we were hungry, she gave us little Debbie's and chips because it was a lot easier than helping us get fruit or something healthier; if we didn't have pizza rolls or something else she could throw in the oven, we had to make our own lunch and breakfast, everyday; if we were hungry, or even fucking hurt, during one of her shows, we'd get yelled at, brushes thrown at us; my brother and I grew up playing spies a lot because sometimes that was the best way to get food or drink without repercussions. And that's not the worst part. My older brother died when I was three. Before that, my two brothers and I all slept in the same room as our parents (it was a small house), but the grandmother took my little brother out of my parent's room. She was able to use my parent's grief combined with the new baby that was born barely a month after my brother's death to move my younger brother into her room because she "was worried that he wasn't being taken care of or given enough attention. But she left me, only eighteen months older, with my "negligent" parents...I didn't know this fact until I was grown. So, the weird time lapse between my brother's death and when the horrible, deviating nightmares that still have the ability to leave me in tears today started was always a mystery. Now, I know that the nightmares started when she snatched my little brother away. All of this may seem like nothing, but that's because it's only part of the things she's done. There's the times she tried to make me feel less because I was succeeding; the times she made me feel like a blob instead of a person; the time her "small" comments about by weight led to a bulimia-like diet; or the times she threatened to put my parents in jail over things she's done in their name; and there are so many more things she did before I was born that would make you see her as a monster...And she's never once taken responsibility for her actions. She blames others or denies the events ever occurred. She's driven people crazy because of her own delusions and lack of self-worth. So, should I feel sad about her dying? No. Should I feel guilty about that? No. What do I feel? Relief. I feel relieved because she won't be there to start fights on EVERY birthday and holiday; my future children will never have to meet her; my niece doesn't have to grow up being told she's fat; and so much more. My "grandmother" is dying...and I don't care.

It Got Better
I know this is the second time I’m sharing this, but it is amazing. My little brother wrote this for a blog post for his school. If you have a minute to spare, you should definitely read this...And then share it so others can read it.

I couldn't be prouder of my little brother!

A Second Skin
For a wearable biomedical device to be comfortable and practical, it should provide a seamless ‘second skin’ for the patient. To do so the device must move with the body, emulating the elasticity of skin. This has sparked a lot of interest in thin, film-like materials, and has led to a new breed of biocompatible electronics with controllable flexibility. Such materials are highly elastic, and consist of a spiral network interweaved through a gel-like substance – as pictured. The spiral symmetry allows the material to be stretched evenly in all directions – mimicking the stretching properties of skin – although subtle changes to the structure can tweak the elasticity, adapting it for different patches of skin, and even different organs. These composite materials are a step forward in tissue engineering and could be used to create both wearable and fully implanted biomedical devices in the future.

Amazing Hack: Turn Your SmartPhone Into A Blacklight
Definitely something to try.
You see stuff about school shootings on the news, and you think "That's so horrible. It'll never happen at my school." But then it does. Thankfully I wasn't on campus when this occurred. And my thoughts and prayers are with those that were there and their families. And the support and kind words drifting across social media and the news make me realize why I am so proud to be a Seminole.
Today is november sixth. Yesterday was november fifth. Tomorrow is november seventh. Sometimes, I have to take a second to remember that the days are numbered. I feel like there's no end in sight. There is no tomorrow that will never come, but that's false. Today maybe my last, or I get to experience fifteen hundred more. I don't know. And when worries about tomorrows and stress about todays begin weighing me down, I have to tell myself: Today is november sixth. Yesterday was november fifth. Tomorrow is november seventh. And I remember that no matter what problems I have right now, I'm alive. And I'm able to put everything into slightly better perspective. I take a breath and am able to feel so much lighter. Like just remembering that I maybe in the middle of my last day on earth allows me to shed some of the weight off my shoulders. I don't forget about those things, or do stupid things instead. I'm just better able to deal with them. Since I figured out how to do this, I've been happier. I've been a lot happier.
