three dumb bitches telling each other "exaaactly"
I know this isn’t a new take but my god….. Samira was such a key player in season 1 and the first half of season 2, that to have her BARELY present in the last few episodes is so gutting. Basically her ONLY full scene in the finale was so cobbled together and just all round bad bad baaaaad. And like, I didn’t need her arc to be neatly tied off per se (I like it when this show leans into the fact that things are rarely fully solved in a single day, and she’s not the type of person to have a big emotional breakthrough at work really) but to basically just completely flatten her, make her take all the blame with Robby, use her to absolve him??????? AND THATS IT FOR HER???? Get fucked immediately.
What’s really gutting is, we’ve seen what a brilliant fucking doctor she is, how she has sometimes been the ONLY doctor to advocate for and save some of her patients. Not only is she attentive and kind, she’s also plenty capable of pulling some of those mad cowboy!doctor moves that Robby and Abbot cream themselves over. She deserves SO MUCH MORE THAN THIS.
I wish she’d had a chance to back herself, or to have someone else bolster her even in just a tiny way.
I don’t mean this in a shipping sense (necessarily), but after we’ve had those great little moments with her and Abbot, it would have been so much more satisfying and made a LOT more sense narratively if one of her final scenes had been with him. Him seeing her in the ambulance bay instead of Robby, asking her if she’s made a decision about her fellowship, telling her that she could do geriatrics with her eyes closed but only IF SHE WANTS TO, and also telling her that she doesn’t deserve to take shit from a 50 year old man with all his screws loose (and that’s coming from a 50 year old man with all his screws loose). To have just ONE other character show that they see her, they’re listening to her, WHY WAS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK. I would have much preferred that, I didn’t need her conflict with Robby to be resolved, like we can all just call him a dick behind his back and move on.
If it were me in that writers room, I’d have had Abbot in the ambulance bay, and he starts doing a “you’re better than this” speech which sounds a little harsh so she cuts him off and is like “I don’t need this, I know I let things get the better of me today, I KNOW” and he’s like “fuck that, that’s not what I meant. I meant you’re better than letting some old asshole with bees in his head tell you what you are and aren’t capable of, don’t listen to that shit”. And then she says with a lil sass “okay cool, so I don’t have to listen to you then? I can go home now?” and he laughs and is like “fucking geriatrics… you know, Robby just hopes you’ll be HIS doctor…” then they kiss what
i'm probably gonna say very little about fandom discourse around this ep because spring break starts next week and i'm running out of sanity but actually. i love everyone on the pitt being flawed and fucked up and nasty sometimes. i love robby being a hypocrite and repulsed by samira's anxiety because he's repulsed by his own. i love that, alternatively, samira is repulsed by her mother's loneliness because she's repulsed by her own, too. i love santos blaming langdon for her ostracization at the ED and her unwillingness to see that, separate of the langdon issue (however separate you can make it), if you go around being an asshole to your peers all the time, some people are just not going to fucking like you. i love that its garcia specifically who checks santos for the lack of decorum she's displaying in front of their patients in this ep because garcia herself could arguably stand to have a bit more decorum when talking about patients and she's also treating santos like a dogggg right now. i love that mel is overstepping boundaries with becca and coddling her in a way that doesnt allow becca the space she deserves to be an autonomous adult with autism who should be respected on her own terms because mel's also struggling with what it means to be an autonomous adult with autism who should be respected on her own terms. i think there's a difference between a show depicting characters behaving badly and cosigning their bad behavior. i think a good character and a good person are separate categories. i love that this is a show that isn't so obsessed with likability that it keeps its characters from behaving badly.
frankly, i hope these characters keep fucking up, and i hope they keep getting checked by their fellow fuck ups, because that's life, brother. there is no divine priestly class of sinless people who exist to tell the "bad" people off for their missteps. and i hope that, as the show progresses, we see robby, santos, mohan, langdon etc make more mistakes and better mistakes. and i love that this show, for all its flaws, is (imo) still holding true to its premise that people are not wholly defined by their best moments or their worst. no matter how uncomfortable it is to sit with that nuance or how tense that makes an episode of television lol.
Do either of you have a head canon about them?
she got the ick

“Ilya made the first move” as if unsociable Shane Hollander didn’t search the entire facility for Ilya and then go out back and shake his hand and then stand there, breathing in secondhand smoke

The concept of conformitygate is genuinely more unsettling and WAY scarier than anything this show has done all season. I can't even explain it. Just the phrase "wake up, Mike" creeps me out for some reason. The idea of being stuck in this fake world where you're miserable, but it feels completely real, and people are trying to get you to wake up, but you can't, and the whole time there's this Truman Show paranoia of thinking there's a grand conspiracy and maybe someone's out to get you, but you don't know who's in on it or who to trust or if you can trust ANYONE, and the whole time it's so hard to escape because our instinct is to accept the reality around us even if it's boring and we're not happy with it.
God, I love this community.
me waiting for the Duffers to come out and having to explain that there isn’t an extra episode and the ending is actually just it and they just actually forgot about the plot holes because they had the flu and we have to cut them some slack but that fans are welcome to interpret it that way because it might have happened off screen
the duffers calling bylers just "noise" that they have to tune out ----> bylers on twitter coming up with a theory based on the massive amounts of plot holes and conformity messaging in the finale that has become so large there are multiple news articles being written about its evidence and everybody's talking abt it online.
proud of us..????
"its up for interpretation" and "maybe it happened off screen" becoming inside jokes in this fandom is so funny
Lemme get this straight. The duffers didn't want to write a scene to give mike and will closure at alllll and only included the scene on the tower after noah begged them to and even then, they couldn't be serious about it. They turned it into some cruel joke. "friend? No thanks.................................... Best friends!" i feel sick
priah ferguson deserved better too what they did to erica was so unfair bro
there will never be another character like will byers
Fanfic writers writing fix-it fics after canon completely ruined and butchered their favorite characters
