Yesterday I saw a mother with a baby carriage, being followed by a girl of about 4-6 years old on a bicycle. The kid started ringing her bike bell like RING RING RING RING RING RING RING, and the mother turned to look behind them to see whether they were being followed by a cyclist who desperately needs to pass them for the sake of everyone's safety.
And the little girl - who just rang the goddamn bell herself 5 seconds ago - also turned to look.
Kids are confused by everything at all times. They don't know jack shit. About anything.

me and my brother later had a small discussion about whether that could happen randomly (conclusion: no, he probably had to file papers or something) and whether daniel should now be referred to as dadās ex-husband (conclusion: yes but only to see the face heāll make) but at no point did we find it like... alarming? the world is big and weird. we were used to it.
finding out a sorta-relative could just change genders off camera, as it were, was a whole lot less head-splodey than finding out there were no squirrels in australia!

"Won't they be confused by all the--" So what if they are? Life is often confusing. That's part of how we learn. Part of the job of an adult is to help confused kids learn and understand things. There's no obligation to protect the kids from the confusing things. Quite the reverse.
In my experience anyone using this BS excuse isn't worried about a child's potential confusion, but their own, which they don't want to admit to having.

let the record show i am all in favor of "shit" and "damn" and "fuck" but at the same time, "oh brother" is just an extremely funny way to express consternation. i tried to look it the etymology and nobody seems to even know the origin. like, what brother? whose brother? my brother? your brother? all we know is that somewhere out there, A brother is going through it, apparently.

also once you're not like twentysomething any more, Boyfriend/Girlfriend sounds... kinda juvenile? Or it does to some of us. Besides Partner is gender neutral and relationship-type-neutral: Your Partner might be your aromantic asexual qpr life mate you spend your life with, or your heterosexual alloromantic Straight spouse of several years, or one of multiple partners you have and the one you happened to bring as your 'plus one', or anything else. You don't have to explain your sexuality or your personal relationship with the word Partner.

idk man sometimes i like it when video game writers are allowed to plan a series of events that happen in a specific order and affect each other in turn to become an overarching narrative, and i donāt mind trusting those writers to take me through those events in the order that is emotionally effective. i donāt really care if a game forces me to go through the forest area first before i can attempt the icy area because maybe thereās things that happen in the forest area that inform later scenes in the icy area. maybe we don't need more superficial player choice open world concepts if it comes at the cost of the ability to write a story with actual significant plot events and character development in each section
i don't really want to weight in on the "using big words in your writing is ableist" discourse happening on tiktok because i'm like 90% certain it's an anti-intellectual psyop to stir up drama in online circles to promote the use of ai to summarize literally everything and thus feeding the LLMs and lowering the populace's mistrust of such tools but i also have to say: dictionaries and thesauruses are the most accessible they've ever been. if you use an e-reader of any kind you can look up a word without leaving the page. there's a plethora of online dictionaries and if you just type a word + "meaning" into google it'll usually give you a definition. we used to have pocket dictionaries we used when reading in class. i have two on my shelf right now that i used in high school. stop letting the fascists purposefully misuse anti-ableism rhetoric to trick you into never thinking again.
