Inevitably dealt with a whole host of personal life drama and general irresponsibility until his late twenties before Dominic finally shaped up of his own accord and got his act together. Call it his pre-frontal cortex maturing or a recalibration on what actually matters, but he landed on the importance of supporting their family business if they want to stay billionaires. And with that, of course, came stepping into his role within the other family business as a proper capo. He's been golden ever since, spending the last several years schmoozing investors and being the source of levity in every decision making room.

she glanced sideways, following his line of sight toward the crowd before looking back at the man beside her. “if she's important enough that you're planning an escape route...” a corner of her mouth lifted. “…i don't think the atlantic is going to save you.” she took an unhurried sip of her champagne, eyes drifting over the terrace where white linen and expensive smiles blurred together beneath the soft evening lights. "besides," she continued, “jumping into the ocean would only make you easier to find.” her gaze settled on him again, lingering just long enough to notice the looseness in his posture, the easy confidence of someone who had already decided the rules were optional. drunk enough to be entertaining. not drunk enough to be a problem. yet. "you've got two choices." her tone remained conversational. "disappear now before she notices..." a slight pause. “...or stay exactly where you are and act like you belong.” another sip. “it's amazing how often confidence passes for permission.” she looked back toward the crowd, as though considering his odds. “so...” a quiet laugh escaped her. "what'd you do that has you contemplating swimming?"

His mouth parts slightly to dispel a series of notions, both that Cel is important and how the Atlantic wouldn't provide salvation. It's a fruitless and ultimately empty endeavor, he won't slander either of them with the falsehood of not caring about his eventual sister-in-law. Instead he downs his drink, the corner of his mouth lifting at one side. "Since when has a person ever been easy to find in the ocean?" His smirk transformed into a quiet laugh dancing in the twilight around them when it appeared this stranger had absolutely no idea who Dominic was. Hardly a slight to his ego or something he'd point out with snark-driven arrogance, but he's still admittedly a little surprised. Belonging had never been the problem for the Caravellis, and he was near certain he'd never asked permission for anything in his life. Forgiveness only. "If I disappear then my sister will have my ass," he responds, albeit not unkindly. "It's her party." Both hands rose in mock defense, playfully aghast at the accusation. "Me? Nothing. I'm an innocent party here."

His focus turned to the punnet of blueberries on his desk as he came back into his office, now popping one into his mouth after the other he sat in his chair, leaning back as his gaze met his brother's. Nico remained quiet, listening, taking it all in as he reached for a pen, holding it between both thumb and forefingers, he launched it towards Dominic's cheek - not caring if it actually landed there or not, and the moment it spun through the space between them he reached for another blueberry. "You think I watch Golden Girls?" despite everything, that's where his focus came back to. Curious, sure and yet, it was no skin off his back when it came to how he was perceived. Not when the death of their brother had Nico shouldering the way Nicoletta was handling Romeo's passing, all while his siblings were either getting so drunk they couldn't see straight or stood at a coffee machine with absolutely no idea how to use one. The word useless came to mind, but he was giving them grace because he wasn't Enzo, and so here he sat, popping another piece of fruit into his mouth.

The pen ricocheted off his face with an audible thwap right before Dominic caught it in its descent towards the office floor. He considered retaliating and then thought better of it as he stood to meander around. Only to turn and reconsider again before he swiped a blueberry. "No, I think you watch Wheel of Fortune," he clarified as if that were obvious, "which is about thirty percent lamer." Pivoting on his heel, both hands dug into their respective pockets as he leaned against one of the decorative shelving units. For all his posturing about alcoholism and drinking his grief into oblivion, the itch to actually settle the problem crawled up his spine in a way that felt unmistakable. "They find Jimmy yet?"

Parked at the expansive bar for the better part of fifteen minutes, he'd been ordering drinks for anyone close enough to engage in his antics. A little inebriated sure, but not belligerently so and Dominic had no intention of crossing the line into that realm during a crucial event for his sister. He knew how to pace a buzz long enough to make it last; to make it count. "If you see Celestina walking this way, can you warn me?" His jaw angles towards the nearest partygoer to his left. "I need to like, jump into the ocean or something before she figures out I showed up to this." Only a half-joke.

Weddings weren't his cup of tea really, never had been. They all seemed to distill into a long drawn out process of binding yourself to the same person for... what? Eternity? The first shitty anniversary and then bailing? Divorce was hardly a bogeyman, but it seemed a messy and inevitable proposition from his vantage point. He could be happy for others who wanted it though, or at least feign the sentiment long enough to seem genuine. "Since we haven't had the chance to properly do this," he placed a crystalline shot glass into the other man's grasp without invitation. "Congratulations on the nuptials. To many more years and all that jazz."

One for each of them and already uncorked, as God intended. Almost certainly not left out for the masses to take at their leisure, but whatever exchange occurred between himself and some skinny little waiter was neither here nor there. "I've been thinking," passing her the Dom Pérignon held in his left hand, he continued his explanation without missing a beat, "it's probably for the best I left the jacket. Way too many people in suits here. You'd lose me in the crowd of nepo babies."

However, call it long term impulse and general penchant for mischief, he couldn't help himself from rifling through his brother's things after the elder stepped out. In front of a witness too, although if she ratted on him then it was no skin off his nose to call her a liar. "My dear intelligent, assertive, vicious Rüya, I have two favors to ask." He stuffed three post-it note pads into his pockets and followed it with the entire cup of pens. Just for annoyance sake. "Well one's a favor, the other is a request. Hold your shock and awe because I'm sure you can guess what they are."

Not a revolutionary method of insider trading really, but an easily profitable one if they could time it correctly with the right amount of air coverage. Because truly it was either keep trucking at his job or spend every waking moment looking at the blank spot in his phone where Romeo's texts should be. "Senator Rollins is weak and easily bought. Dom's assessment arrived mere seconds after the door pulled back to reveal his friend on the opposing side and only four minutes after he'd texted to say he was coming over. Santi probably hadn't even read it yet. "It's only ten. This is so sad." Youth cut down in its prime honestly. "For the love of God, put something else on so we can leave before the bars close. Or do you need permission to come out now? Do I have to call your sister? Because she scares me and I don't want to do that."

The hangover pulsing in his temple and right behind his left eye was enough to call it for the day, but coupled with the lingering black cloud that seemed to perpetually hang over their name in light of such loss... Dom made the executive decision to clock the fuck out. It had been easier to stomach a slew of penitent I'm Sorry's and useless platitudes when Enzo was the one sitting in a box. Now they simply grated every nerve and despite how unchanged his demeanor appeared in the boardroom, once they were alone in Nico's office, he ran both hands down his face.

"Okay, here's what I'm thinking," he began, dropping unceremoniously into a chair across from his brother. "Hair of the dog. Can't feel like shit if I just get drunk again." Flawless plan really, it just needed an accomplice. "You come, we discuss how stupid this guy's portfolio is, you go home to cross-stitch and watch Golden Girls, I stay out until I forget who the fuck were were even talking about. In the morning, we write it all off as a business expense."

There were other places he could've deigned to waste his time and their mother's house fell so low on the list, yet Dominic couldn't resist the tug of obligation to check on her. To ensure she hadn't succumbed in her grief and remind Nicoletta that she had three other children not haunting her periphery. Or maybe he just wanted his mom, or whatever version of her he'd concocted in his mind to deal with the absent one from their childhood. A safe haven from the relentless pursuit of grief nipping at his heels. When she inevitably couldn't provide that comfort, it only seemed fortuitous that Cami made an appearance instead.

Stretched out in one of the antique chaises, he twisted one of his mother's priceless knickknacks between his hands. More for the movement and opportunity to occupy his hands, not really seeing it. "It's kinda unfair, you know. He broke her heirloom vase and I covered for him this whole time." He glanced over at his sister, unwilling to use the name that might etch a crack into his dark humored façade. "Asshole went and died before I could get him in trouble twenty years later."
