Icelandic World Championships, Birmenstorf 2025
2015/08/31
im getting really emotional thinking about horses (as my sister would say "wow, fork found in the kitchen")
anyways please reblog with ur favorite horsie memories! i have too many to say, i think theyre all my favorite even the bad experiences
Completing a whole jumping course with the gelding who, years earlier, when we newly got him, used to try to run out of the arena if there was even a pole on the ground.
Galloping full speed back to the pasture with the Icelandic I used to ride after realizing I was meant to be home in 15 minutes.
That one mom who yelled "look at that big dog!!" to her kids when driving past me n' the Icelandic while just walking her.
Creating Wheat Thin :)!!!
Trainer at the time going "How the hell did you turn him into a show pony??" after a few weeks' work with a different highly anxious gelding.
Taking Ed to his very first show at one month off the track/one month under saddle where he wowed everyone on the sidelines with his dude personality and stood in a crowd of 20-30 horses just chillin
Our first endurance/CTR ride at pony club when we came 3rd
Every single time weāve been stopped walking down the road/through the reserve so people can pat the horses
Every single time weāre gearing up at the paddock and people stop their cars to tell us what lovely horses we have and how friendly they are (+ when they ask if they can feed them carrots over the fence and their faces light up when we say OF COURSE)
My big sister and her 3 stepdaughters coming out to see the horses one day and she rode Stormy for the first time with little 2yo Ayla in her lap
Sending Forrest to his new home after heād been rehabbed from his lease
Going to see Ed at Waimak Treks for the first time
Riding a then-unbroken Gem in a jockey saddle and rope halter all the way through Baynons Brake with a friend on Ed
The first time mum and Gem came on a CTR with us
Watching baby Bung grow up from a foal with a severed tendon who was 50/50 on being put down into a winning racehorse
All the times I got to drive the racehorses solo
Getting chosen to be the endurance/CTR feature article in the debut The Foundation Rider magazine
The first time Thea came cantering up to me when I whistled for her after installing that cue
Riding bareback through the woods as a kid and slaloming through the trees at top speed, using only my knees to steer
Spending long summer afternoons sitting backwards on my old gelding, using his QH hindquarters as a prop to hold my book while he grazed
One of my happiest memories to date is riding my bike home during a summer sunset after an incredible riding lesson on one of our most difficult horses - he went like a dream for me
The first time I fell head over heels in love with a pony (it was on a farm holiday when I was six, his name was Felix and heās the reason i finally badgered my parents into getting riding lessons)
Galloping bareback and with a headcollar, no shoes, just shorts and a bikini through the woods with my first Icelandic part share on our way to the river - eyes closed and arms spread wide
Coming first in my very first dressage show and proofing my entire family wrong
One particular evening ride as the sun set over to Scottish Highlands - my friend and I both on our āonce in a lifetimeā horses and weāre just chatting as weāre warming up (the picture is my background to this day)
That one time me and two friends raced over a freshly cut field like the devil was chasing us - felt like flying
The countless times Colibri took naps with her head on my lap - every single one a precious memory
The winter it snowed so much and my Icelandic was living his BEST LIFE - so many great rides
The few times we took the entire Fribi group and rode to this cute breakfast cafƩ a couple of hours away and had them graze on the field while we had a snack and drink
Small stuff like the first time I managed to ride a pony in the correct outline, my first flying change, first canter pirouette, first tƶlt, first oxer, first canter half pass - all these aha moments when it just clicks
frolicking with mama :)
