Kinda funny how the big three works that consumed my childhood are all hitting their 10th anniversary this year.
Happy 10 years, YOI, Mystic Messenger and VLD
And speaking of Lotor, I've been meaning to talk about a theory I read about the colony-sacrifices plotline back when I watched S6 in 2018. It's been in the back my mind ever since I saw it and I wholeheartedly believe it to be true, kinda surprised it wasn't more widespread tbh considering it made so much sense.
I also just wanna revisit my thoughts on Lotor because the last time I talked about it here, I felt like my thoughts were all over the place lmao. Generally speaking tho, my sentiments are pretty much the same...I still feel like there was more that could've been done with Lotor's character especially when you consider the aforementioned theory being plausible. I just feel like it's a shame that this version of Lotor was the closest to walking out of his parents' shadows, only for it be snatched away in exchange for a lackluster plot twist.
Have you guys ever thought about how Lotor would’ve LOVED Earth? Unlike most planets in the galaxy, Earth has so many civilisations and cultures, each with their own history, customs, traditions…he would’ve been so amazed.
I still think about this btw, my heart melts thinking about how much Lotor would've been geeking out over the sheer diversity of Earth alone. Poor boy never wanted to be a prince or emperor, his true dream is anthropology 🥀
Rendered comm for @doridoripawaa 💛 I had so much fun with the details 🏵

I realized I never posted my piece for @wiltedmysmes zine, so here it is! Working on this zine was so much fun, I remember how much love and passion was poured into this project 🥹🩷 I still adore this piece, and I hope you'll like it as well 👉👈
Yeah pairings with light yagami are cool but have you ever thought about Kiyomi Misa and Teru painting each other's nails and gossiping about their ex boyfriend (light).
them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sorry kinda messy sketch

Re: Light and Sayu’s Relationship
It’s a popular fandom view that Light is a person who doesn’t care about his family and would have absolutely murdered Sayu in the second arc if it wasn’t self incriminating to do so. Personally, I think there’s a lot of evidence in the manga that goes against that view and this is an analysis I wrote on the relationship between the two Yagami siblings that I am re-posting here.
In my opinion, the most interesting conflict in Death Note is the silent one that takes place between Light and his own family members. The source of this largely internal conflict is obvious; Light is Kira, but the other Yagamis are sensible and they don’t acknowledge Kira as a legitimate enforcer of justice. As I said at the beginning of this post, the prevailing fanon opinion on Light is that he views his family as tools and merely plays to what’s expected of him as a son and an older brother.
But here’s the thing. what we actually see is Light repeatedly bending over backwards to try and protect his family and it is often to his own disadvantage rather than to his benefit. Why? Because he loves them. Plain and simple. It’s quite literally one of Light’s only redeeming traits and it’s a key part of what makes him a hopelessly tragic kid. In this post I’m specifically focusing on Light’s relationship to Sayu.

I know I’m probably several years late to this, but I’ve had two dreams about Lotor within the past month so I feel compelled to write this.
As a fan of Voltron: Legendary Defender, there’ll always be things that I will be salty about. I’ll always be irritated at how much of a rushed clusterfuck the last season was. I’ll never be okay with the blatant “Bury your Gays” trope in their half-assed attempt at throwing in last-minute LGBTQ+ representation. I’m appalled at how poorly they handled the death of [REDACTED] at the very end of the series.
But nothing has made me legit angrier and more disappointed in a series and its writers than the way Lotor’s character arc was handled.

You hit the nail on the coffin. I hated that they never went back and explored the colony in the following seasons from Lotor’s side. It sucks even more when you realise Lotor says they “perished” but never said anything about him killing them directly, those Alteans might’ve willingly given up their lives for all we know. And exactly, why did Lotor need their quintessence??? There was definitely much more going on there than we know and it’s so disappointing that the show never answers those questions. Lotor had to die for a reason we don’t even know if it’s fully true or not (and obv for the shock value if you read that interview about how they said he was supposed to appear like Zuko but end up as Azula 🙄). You brought up an amazing point with the quintessence field, shit how did I not realise that?? Honestly that would’ve been a much better plot if they wanted to so badly set up a conflict between him and the team since it’s actually already in the story. Plus it would somewhat parallel him and Honerva, except unlike her he would actually break free from it’s power. I do disagree about him having an ulterior motive to start his own empire though, I just don’t see him as someone who wants to rule. I personally believe if nothing had went wrong with his plans, he would’ve let the colony rule themselves and he’ll go and explore the universe like he wanted to. That part about Zuko really opened a new perspective for me, but on the other hand it’s also up to how the character is portrayed. Unlike Zuko whose motivations are shown clearly and him being a pretty ingenious person, Lotor is a manipulate mansplain malewife hoe. It’s not hard to believe that he may have some other kind of motive or keeping something in the dark from us. Still, we also already know his true goal even if his way of achieving it are kinda well, roundabout, so it was still possible for him to have led the path of redemption plus like you said the framework was already there, but alas. SIGH. He truly deserved better.
Oh hey it's been 3 years since I made this post, anyways I was digging through my notes app and found a draft of a reblog I was gonna make on this reblog which I never posted because I guess I forgot about it lmao, so I'll just do it now—
"Sorry to reblog this again, but I just had a thought before I went to sleep. So everything happened according to S6, but instead of Lotor being left to rot in the rift, Honerva manages to save him in time. Of course he isn't in perfect condition but because she doesn't have actual healing abilities like Allura (at least she wasn't shown to have them), she turns him into a "puppet". Oh the irony, also I imagine he'll have Zarkon's purple glowing eyes.
Later on Team Voltron would go to Oriande and face Honerva, and she'll use Lotor to make him fight them. Although he tries to resist her influence, he is powerless. The paladins are shocked to find that he is still alive, especially Allura. Everyone is set on taking him down anyway since he is obviously being controlled by Honerva, but Allura convinces them to save him instead.
So they duke it out, and at some point maybe Allura would say something that will tug at Lotor's heart (one of those "I know this isn't you" speeches lol) that will finally give him the strength to break free from her grasp. At a loss, Honerva flees, and Team Voltron takes Lotor back to Earth.
There he finally gets to explain what's truly going on in the colonies, an we find out that he never meant to kill them at all or they willingly sacrificed themselves. We also learn why he needed all that quintessence. He and Allura reconcile, and have a little moment together where he tells her that his feelings for her were truly genuine and that he's okay if she needs time to put together her feelings towards him. From there their relationship starts to heal.
And everything from here on out proceeds like S8 ig with the inclusion of Lotor, he'll co-pilot with Allura. If they couldn't sacrifice the lions then he will sacrifice himself to restore the realities, reprising his trial at Oriande, and Allura may or may not join him here."
