priests with an online platform (/any priest at all really) who makes anti-female-ordination jokes or memes is not a priest who cares about half of his parish & is perhaps not a safe person to minister to people at all i think?
& i'm not talking abt priests who just theologically land on that side of the debate, i mean the priests who make it part of their personality & Brand tm. because not only does it feel like these jokes are misogynistic in nature, but also feels like making a punchline out of women is more important to these priests than actually caring about women & girls, even within their own parishes, & their needs & concerns & thoughts & feelings re: female ordination? along with seemingly not understanding that, like so many traditions, it Is a debate that is & will be ongoing, & debating potentially life-altering changes for the laity requires.........communicating with the laity
but also the optics of having such an open disdain for women when your audience is mostly anti-vatican II tradcath men, are that these priests also lean dangerously conservative. like as indicated by example over & over & over & over again how tightly misogyny is woven in with racism & violence & bigotry. would Love to do a review of some of these priests' accounts regarding what percentage of their audience consuming these memes is also consuming modern crusades / white supremacy / pro-slavery content / content celebrating innocent migrants being murdered / etc?? are they comfortable sharing an online space with people who create far right content & aligning their own with it? how do they think women & girls in their parish feel about their jokes? would women & girls feel comfortable talking to them about their faith & place within the church or no? much to say hm
You know how we call things "pseudoscience"... the media analysis that's being done on twitter and tumblr should be pseudohumanities
