Magikarp has gotten pretty big. This photo was taken while I was cleaning the large tank.

Bitter sweet update. Since Sushi passed away yesterday, Black Tulip gets to live in an undivided 10 gallon tank. I removed all but the tiniest bit of substrate. I also removed some of the fake plants and disposed of the only live plant. The moss ball is still there. After a mostly complete water change and scrubbing off all the algae, Black Tulip is settling back into his much bigger home. I still have to keep an eye on him because he is recovering from swim bladder. I'm know it's not dropsy because his scales are not pine coning like Sushi's did. He's just bloated and still sleeping / resting sideways. I'm worried about Tulip getting sick and passing away too. I know he's a fighting fish, but he's never not had a next door neighbor.

Goodbye Sushi

Today Sushi Fïsh passed away. He was my first fish ever. I got him freshman year of college.

Help, Fishblr! I need advice.

This is Black Tulip, my betta fish. I’ve had him since May. He lives in a divided 10 gallon tank with my first betta, Sushi.

For a few days he’s be leaning halfway over and sleeping at the top of the tank all day. My roommate was even worried that he was dead.

This behavior seems unusual and I just wanted to ask those more knowledgeable about what you think it could be. Sushi the other fish is doing fine in the same tank. He doesn’t have the same energy he used to and I’m worried. Thanks for the advice.

P.s., it is difficult to take pictures of black fish.

Sounds like Swim Bladder Disorder! Try fasting him for a few days and give him some epsom salt baths. Just add one tablespoon of epsom salt to one gallon of water. I used a gallon jug of water. Pour some into a bowl for his bath and use a new bowl of water each time you give him a bath. Give him 1-2 baths a day. If you have any more questions dont hesitate to shoot me a message!

I just wanted to let you know that you were correct about everything. Black Tulip is doing a lot better now. Unfortunately the fish he shares the divided tank with, Sushi is sick and shows all the signs of Dropsy.

He’s white, looks bloated, and his scales are pineconing.  It looks like he is having trouble breathing. I took him out of the tank to make a video that I just posted. he’s just laying on his side in the cup while I’m looking at him.

Worry, worry, worry

It's 11:29 pm and I should be asleep because I'm recovering from surgery but I can't stop worrying about my betta fishes. I had a tonsillectomy and am on heavy pain meds but right now it is the time to worry about my fish.

A little over a year of fish blogging

As of today I have had Sushi Fïsh for a year and a month. I missed the opportunity to blog about it on the actual one year anniversary of getting Sushi, so I thought I'd post something today

Fish person nightmare

Last night I had another nightmare about my fish. In it Black Tulip only had about an inch of water in his tank. He was mixed up with a bunch of sand and soap bubbles for some reason. I then take him and his container to my bathroom sink and wash it out. I didn't have the drain stopped up so Black Tulip went down the drain. I started crying and went screaming for my dad. My dad turned off the water and took the pipes apart and somehow saved my fish.

Black Tulip and Sushi are back in the dorm room! I rearranged the decorations so that Tulip had the bubbling barrels and moss ball while Sushi has his treasure chest, the light, filter, and live plant.

Back to the dorm!

Dorm room fish is officially blogging from a dorm room again! This year I'm living in an apartment / suite style building. I share a room with one person and a bathroom, kitchen, and living area with two other lovely ladies. Right now only Sushi and Tulip are in the building. They are still in their divided 10 gallon tank. The building I'm living in was built in 1920 and there isn't an elevator. So I had to carry all my fish stuff up to the third floor.
