The Scorpions' Nest [Mikoto and Dorothy]
“I cannot. I will not. It is that simple.” He pressed his lips into a thin line, still refusing to look at her. “I apologize, but this is something I cannot yield on.”
His body relaxed just slightly when he heard there was an antidote. So at least he would survive – but she was still pestering him to come inside. “No, I can’t – ”
Help him outside? “I… suppose that is acceptable.” He would have a little bit more control here. “If you would be so kind, could you bring me water and fresh bandages, along with the antidote?”
Dorothy was confused by why the man was so persistent in not coming in to the clinic, but she could only guess that perhaps the man had a fear of hospitals or doctors. That was usually why people did not want to go to them, right? Either way, the woman also knew that she could not simply leave the man in pain, so she was grateful when he at least accepted her offer for her to help him outside.
"I... I can do that!" the woman replied, scrambling to her feet. "Just... wait o-one minute... !" Dorothy then went inside and grabbed what the man had requested, as well as some cloths to clean his wounds. She brought a glass of water for him to drink and a bucket to dampen the cloths with.
Only minutes later she was back outside and kneeling beside him once more. "Um... here... you should d-drink," she said, offering him the glass.
The Scorpions' Nest [Mikoto and Dorothy]
He closed his eyes briefly as he heard the door open, hoping he could somehow be unnoticed – but of course, that would be impossible with the way he had positioned himself. He sucked in a deep breath and turned away from the young woman, trying to find his voice. “I cannot come inside, my dear lady. It would… not be right for me. However, if you happen to have an antidote for scorpion venom, I would appreciate it.” He struggled to sound as strong as he would like to be, but his voice betrayed his fraility, and his hands shook to the point where he abandoned the bandaging of his leg and brought them back to his side to steady himself.
Dorothy noticed the man turn away from her, and although she was trying to keep a decent amount of space between the two of them, she could not help but move a little closer. "Wha... What d-do you mean y-you can't come in... ?" She tilted her head slightly, clutching Fern closer to her chest. The man was so badly injured. There was no way she could leave him outside. "I... I think i-it would be better if you d-did. We do have a-an antidote, but... but your wounds s-seem bad. We c-can... clean them up inside."
"Or..." A thought occurred to the woman. "Or I can h-help you outside if you want...?"
The Scorpions' Nest [Mikoto and Dorothy]
There was little Mikoto hated more than clinics. They were dangerous places, proofs of his own weaknesses where he was forced to bare skin in front of medical professionals. He had been in a few without being found out, but he had come dangerously close, and he had no intention of ever entering one of those establishments again, where doctors came too close and touched things they should have no right to.
He sat by the entrance of the Alvarna clinic, trying to keep his hands steady as he bandaged his leg. The wound on it wasn’t the deepest he’d had, but the skin around it was starting to blacken, and he could feel the toxins spreading through him as it became more painful and difficult to breathe. He was covered in other scratches and cuts, but his pride was more wounded than anything. He’d wandered into the scorpions’ nest, thinking he could take them on.
One sting. That was all it had taken, and now he was like this, wheezing and struggling to think over the pain. It was stubborn of him, he knew, to come this close to the clinic and then refuse to go in. It would have been better if he’d stayed far away from civilization, forcing himself to recuperate or die in the wilderness – but this was the decision he’d made, and he’d stick to it. If he fainted, they could take him in. No sooner.
Dorothy was hard at work in the clinic, spending the day studying as she normally did, and trying her best to work towards her goal of becoming a nurse. Not many people came into the clinic though, so there were never many opportunities for her to apply the skills she head read and learned about.
The day was quiet, and Dorothy found herself growing tired of studying and she needed a change in atmosphere. Being stuck inside the clinic all day eventually became boring when there was nothing for her to do but study and listen to Natalie speak. So the woman decided to step outside for a moment, desiring the fresh air and the cool, spring breeze.
However, as soon as she stepped outside and took a moment to look around her surroundings, Dorothy spotted a person sitting right outside the clinic. He was clearly badly injured, and the woman quickly dropped to her knees to get closer to him. "E-Excuse me, um... are you a-alright? Why... Why don't you c-come inside...?"
Fairy Research ✧ [Rosalind&Dorothy]
The powder blue haired young woman looked over her items one last time, her lips pursed as her peridot eyes scanned the lined pages of her notebook. A quick nod - placing said item into a satchel, along with several other belongings, before moving swiftly out of her home.
She readjusted her bag, glancing around the evening setting with an eager turned up smile on her lips, before she continued down the cobble stone path on her way. Her heels clicked with each step - teaching through the alley way as the sound waves seemed to bounce right off the passing buildings.
“ Excusez-moi! Dorothy? ♪” The woman’s voice called out - stepping inside the church and shutting the entry way with a click behind her. ” … Goodness you’ve got to be here somewhere aren’t you?” Her tone rose in a cheerful manner, though keeping it hushed in case her presence had come at a bad time. “Dear Dorothy?”
Dorothy sat on her bed and read a book, with Fern resting on her lap. She flipped the pages in the peaceful silence, enjoying the time that she could spend alone. Her presence was not needed in the clinic, so she took the day to herself, using the opportunity to catch up on her reading and some much-needed rest.
The last few days had been busy in the clinic as they treated an ill patient, so she was grateful for the break. Though she also did not mind when the silence was soon broken by her name being called out.
Instantly recognizing the voice, Dorothy sat up straight on her bed and put her book to the side. "I... I'm in my r-room!" she called out, hoping that Rosalind could hear her.

Ruby Red | Sara and Dorothy
"Are… are ya okay?" Sara followed the girl’s glace down, making a face. "Oh gee, I didn’t accidentally step in cow patty before I left the farm, did I?" She lifted her boots experimentally. No, they seemed pretty clean…
Well that wasn’t the strongest of handshakes, was it? Sara matched her own response accordingly, feeling somehow exhausted for having to curb her naturally strong grip and shake. Well… she had to keep reminding herself that this was a girl she was dealing with. Then again, many guys she dealt with also gave handshakes like dead fish.
"Well, I guess… I’m here for sightseeing." Sara let go of Dorothy’s hand and gestured at the surrounding buildings. "It’s right pretty here. It seems a nice way to pass the time… maybe get some shopping done while I’m at it."
"Dorothy?" Sara repeated, still a bit put out by the lack of eye contact. "Aw, that’s a cute name. Is that Toto then?" She looked pointedly at the doll in Dorothy’s arms. "He’s really cute."
Dorothy tilted her head slightly at the girls question, not really understanding what she was saying. "W-What…? No… No, you're f-fine," she responded, a pause as she debated whether or not to ask her next question. "Y-You work on a farm then…?"
Knowing that the girl was not from Adonea, Dorothy thought that it made sense for her to want to come to the country for sightseeing. Though what she did not understand was why she would come to Alvarna, of all places. Though she shrugged it off. "Yes… it… it is a pretty t-town. There a-aren't too many shops here, but… but I'm sure you can f-find something…"
At the girl's compliment about her name, Dorothy nodded her head slightly. "Th… Thank you." Though she was still looking at the ground, the woman briefly glanced up at the other as she asked about her doll. "W-Who…?" A pause. "Oh… y-you mean Fern? Fern says thank you… f-for calling him cute. But he d-doesn't know why you called him Toto…"
Happy New Year ♪

Maybe good luck in money means that I'll finally become a nurse…? [Keeps the piece of paper gripped tightly between her fingers] It'll be a good year.
Ruby Red | Sara and Dorothy
"I mean it," Sara said earnestly. "They’re my favorite color. And they sorta… glow." She leaned closer. "Yeah. Like rubies. Really, really pretty."
Realizing she’d probably burst this girl’s personal bubble enough for now, she leaned back, extending a hand.
"I’m glad you’re okay though. My name’s Sara, I’m from abroad." That sure was a weird way to introduce herself, but she didn’t know how exactly to describe where her home was to this girl. The nameless Island was just understood to be off the coast of the nameless City to everyone ‘round her neck of the woods.
This magical land didn’t play by the same rules.
"What’s your name?" She asked cheerfully.
Dorothy froze in place when the girl leaned closer to her, keeping her eyes focused on the ground. "W-Well… I'm… I'm glad you like them the… then," she replied, slowly raising a hand to her eyes. She never really liked her eyes, but it was nice to know at least someone did.
With her head still downward, she saw the girl extend her hand, and slowly reached out her own to lightly shake it.
"Ni… Nice to meet you, Sara…" she responded upon hearing the girl speak again. It was obvious that she was not from Adonea from the way that she dressed, though Dorothy made no comment on it. "W-Why… Why are you in Alvarna…?"
A pause. "And my name's Dorothy…"
Ruby Red | Sara and Dorothy
Foreign lands sure were weird.
Sara gazed up in awe as she walked through Alvarna, her eyes trained on the intricate facades of the buildings. Everything was so pretty here, like something out of a fairytale. The people here dressed to match, and it was obvious by the looks she got that she stuck out like a sore thumb.
Oh well. She was used to that, she supposed. What she was more interested in was the pretty buildings. So interested, in fact, that she didn’t notice where she was going, and ran straight into another woman.
"Oops!" She chucked, getting to her feet. "Sorry, Miss, you okay-?" She paused, staring at the girl. In the collision, her bangs had been knocked awry, and bright red eyes could be seen peeking through mint locks.
"Woah," Sara breathed. "Miss, you have the prettiest eyes I’ve ever seen."
Dorothy was walking through town, on her way to visit Rosalind. It was a clear day, and though there was a significant amount of snow on the ground, it was not too cold. She liked the weather and was enjoying her walk right up until the moment that she felt something crash into her.
"…!" Though Dorothy stumbled backwards, she managed to keep her footing, staring straight up at the girl who had collided with her. Reaching her hands up, she quickly tugged her hood over her face, eager to hide herself from the stranger.
"Y-Yes… I'm fine," she said, staring at the ground once she was certain that her face was once again hidden well enough. Though a light red bush could be seen on her face once the girl compliment her eyes, a feature she was not exactly pleased about.
"…?" A pause as she fumbled for words. "Th… Thank… you…"
@Mist/Dorothy
Hm. Well, I suppose it’s just a funny coincidence, is all.
In any case… where was I going again?
