They found a man in concrete.
His pockets full of seeds,
muck in his collar and
putty where he bleeds.
Seeds mean something greater
but something we don’t know.
So we dug the hole again
And buried him down below.
We laid the cables down
and did our dirty work.
Left the man to stew, else
our manager go berserk.
He has a new bed now,
though the view’s all the same.
Went home, had our tea,
No one here’s to blame.
Y’know, honored burial is well and good,
but I do what I must and not what I should.
YES PLEASE AND THANK YOU.

WANTED
QUEER CRYPTID CONTENT
Are you queer? Do you love cryptids? We want you to tell us about it! Swamphouse Press is seeking nonfiction, fiction, and poetry about cryptids from queer creators for QUEER CRYPTIDS (QRYPTIDS). Do you feel a connection to the elusive Bigfoot? Can you relate to the mysterious Loch Ness Monster? Did you spend hours as a child in the New Age and Cryptozology section of your local library? Do you wish your local cryptid had more name appreciation and support? We understand, and we’re making a zine to explore the beauty of creatures whose existence is unproven and the queers who love them. GUIDELINES
- 2,000 word limit per submission. - Fiction, non-fiction (personal essays, academic treatises, and transcriptions of a really good twitter thread you made one time about how you love Mothman are all fair game), and poetry are all accepted. - Nothing hateful (racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic etc.) obviously. Also nothing explicitly pornographic. PAYMENT
We’re pleased to report that we’re able to pay for submissions! We pay $5 for every piece that we accept! We know that isn’t much, but we don’t make huge amounts of cash with our zines, sadly. You’ll also get a free copy, digital and physical!
DEADLINE: JUNE 29th

A small list of random ass sites I’ve found useful when writing:
Fragrantica: perfume enthusiast site that has a long list of scents. v helpful when you’re writing your guilty pleasure abo fics
Just One Cookbook: recipe site that centers on Japanese cuisine. Lots of different recipes to browse, plenty of inspiration so you’re not just “ramen and sushi”
This comparing heights page: gives you a visual on height differences between characters
A page on the colors of bruises+healing stages: well just that. there you go. describe your bruises properly
McCormick Science Institute: yes this is a real thing. the site shows off research on spices and gives the history on them. be historically accurate or just indulge in mindless fascination. boost your restaurant au with it
A Glossary of Astronomy Terms: to pepper in that sweet terminology for your astrophysics major college au needs
Adding to this since I’m working on a shifter au one-shot:
Canine Body Language
Feline Body Language
More:
Cocktail Flow: a site with a variety of cocktails that’s pretty easy to navigate and offers photos of the drinks. You can sort by themes, strengths, type and base. My only real annoyance with this site is that the drinks are sometimes sorted into ~masculine~ and ~feminine~ but ehhhh. It’s great otherwise.
Tie-A-Tie: a site centered around ties, obviously. I stumbled upon it while researching tie fabrics but there’s a lot more to look at. It offers insight into dress code for events, tells you how to tie your ties, and has a section on the often forgotten about tie accessories
Even more:
Types of High Heels: A page describing twenty five different types of high heels. It gives a description and pictures. Shake it up from just “stilettos and kitten heels”
Random Job Generator: Exactly as it says. The site offer more generators like characters, plots, or town names.
Glossary of Hosiery Terms: Figure out what is what on a pair of stockings.
Men’s Dress Shoe Guide: A quick guide describing the eight most common types of men’s dress shoes. Pics included.
Types of Women’s Coats: Descriptions and pics of various different types of coats.
If this post gets… 15 notes. Yeah, 15. I’ll write and post some stories about love because I’m feeling that Lovesick Mood right now.
Damnit. Okay, okay. They’re being written.
Here it is… Probably not what you’re looking for but have at it.
I fell in love in a foreign country with a stranger on a train.
It was an accident, really. Such an accident that it made something that was so up to chance feel more like fate. When I sat down, I wasn’t trying to sit next to him, I was trying to sit next to two of my friends, seated across the aisle.

our podcast, Dear Cassiopeia is a sci-fi podcast centered around a space colonist by the name of Jupiter. Jupiter enthusiastically recounts the adventures that come with space exploration. The addressee is a woman by the name of Cassiopeia, who was left behind on Earth. Being a space colonist has its fair share of planet tourism, wacky characters, fun facts and tragedy in the void. Jupiter will discover this all, the hard way, in Dear Cassiopeia’s release. Coming soon where all good podcasts are found.

The 2nd (and last) batch of fanart requests for my followers! Sorry I posted this so much later than I anticipated I would; I had to redraw some of them since they weren’t so great the first time around. I also struggled a bit since I’m not used to drawing males. I hope they’re ok though! If I screwed up any details let me know so I can fix them asap. <3
Jupiter looks great!
UPDATES
Hello all!
I have some updates on the direction this blog is going.
First of all, I’d like to take a moment to thank everyone who follows this blog! It means a lot to me (and Dabiyyah, I’m sure).
Some things I’m considering implementing:
WTT Instagram/Author Instagram to give both behind the scenes looks at future events/posts/etc as well as my writing process (and maybe even some of my writing!).
WTT Youtube channel (for writing info videos!)
WTT Twitter? (I’m not sure how many people even use Twitter)
Creative Writing Class on the Discord server this summer (June/July)
So, if any of those interest you, like this post! Or leave a reply/send an ask saying which if only one or two of those interest you.
The main thing that I want to announce is that I’m planning on creating more original posts. I’ve been thinking and contemplating about where I want to go with this blog and while I definitely enjoy answering your questions and wish to keep doing so, I would like more original content to be put out on my end. Right now, my whole career is entirely focused on writing and I want to carry that focus over to WTT.
I want to keep WTT free. I want to provide what I was lacking at the beginning of my writing journey as well as facilitate a welcoming writing community. (Hey, have you checked out the Discord server yet?)
However, I still have to eat and pay my bills, so it seems the only logical course is Patreon, which I’ve had for a little while, but something clearly isn’t working there–actually a couple of things. I haven’t been making original posts and the rewards…suck. There, I said it. They suck. I’ve seen a few creators, instead of trying to appeal to their audience through guesswork, straight up ask, so that’s what I’m going to do.
If you’re interested in helping me survive while I write my book/create cool stuff for the blog, please take a look at this short Patreon Rewards Survey!
Thank you and I look forward to hearing your input!
-Amanda
Here’s a brief FAQ about Patreon, My book, my original posts, etc. (under the cut for the sake of brevity.)

Name Reources
So, you’re writing a thing, and you need to name a character. And, as we all know, naming a character is a giant pain in the ass. I offer this list of shit I use pretty regularly, for this purpose.
Behind the Name (The etymologies are weird as fuck, in a few places, but it’s great if you’ve got a name and need to find other names that are from or derived from the same culture/language)
Behind the Surname (BTN for family names)
Academy of Saint Gabriel Medieval Names Archive (This is the go-to for medieval names in Europe and the Near East. Hardcore scholarship and a distinct lack of fucking around.)
Kate Monk’s Onomastikon (The original internet name resource.)
The Soldier in Later Medieval England (Actual names from English military rolls around the Battle of Agincourt)
England’s Immigrants (Non-native residents of England, 1330-1550)
Celtic Personal Names of Roman Britain
Mapping the Medieval Countryside - People (People appearing in English inquisitions post mortem, 1418-1447)
Wiktionary’s Index of Biblical Names
Ancient Names Galleria (The weird shit is here. If you need Akkadian or Phoenecian names, those are totally covered.)
Trismegistos People (Names extracted from the Trismegistos Texts – mostly names from Graeco-Roman Egypt.)
Personally, I use the shit out of Trismegistos People, England’s Immigrants, and the Ancient Names Galleria. If you’ve got good sources I didn’t hit, feel free to add them in a reblog. I’m always looking for more good name resources. (And almost all of what I have is Europe and the Near East, with a little North Africa.)
Dropping this update in the most recent reblog in my notes, in the hopes it falls into as many laps as possible. Here’s some more good sources for names, this time with a more African focus.
Wikipedia Category: Surnames of African Origin (which is helpfully divided into sections by language)
Wikipedia Category: Amharic Language Names (I believe this list is primarily, if not entirely, given names.)
YorubaName (“an online intervention to preserve and document all Yorùbá names in a multimedia format.”)
Writing Adolescent Fiction: Character names: Kenyan, Tanzanian and Ugandan (a list of given names and surnames with notes on how full names are constructed in each culture listed)
Again, if you know any good sources, particularly for regions I haven’t covered, let me know!
Rebageling with some more good shit:
So You Want to Name a Sino (a fairly detailed guide on how to name a Chinese character without sounding like too much of a moron)
Most Popular Baby Names for Girls Since 1960 (most popular American girls’ names, by state, from 1960-2012, as a gif)
Popular Baby Names (the US Social Security database of naming trends in the US, with search options for date, gender, location, and trend)
A Guide to Names and Naming Practises (a UK government guide to common names and structure of names from around the world, split first by continent and then by culture. PDF.)
Curiosities of Puritan Nomenclature (an entire book on trends in English naming and name structure and the Puritan influence, from 1880. PDF.)
Things I am particularly looking for reliable sources for, if you’ve got them: North and South American aboriginal names, Southeast and East Asian names, names from the former USSR, Australian aboriginal names. (All of these by culture or language family, if possible, not just by current national borders.)
Attention Writers!

songs that don’t lyrically fit a character but still feel like them cause me such an emotional dilemma when making playlists
Morally grey: A character who does too much bad to be a good person, but does too much good to be a bad person.
Sympathetic villain: A character who is a bad person, but whose backstory/character arc makes you feel sorry for or sympathetic towards them.
Anti-hero: A character who does bad things to achieve a good goal.
Anti-villain: A character who does bad things to achieve a goal that they believe to be good, but is actually messed up.
Just plain annoying: A character who does bad things to achieve a bad goal but has one throwaway line about a hard childhood that is expected to put them into one of the aforementioned categories when in reality it just makes them annoying
“Her fantasy novel Children of Blood and Bone, the first of a trilogy about a young girl’s battle with a prince over bringing magic back to West Africa, is going to be released some time next year. But it’s already got a seven-figure publishing deal with Macmillan, and a massive deal with Fox Studios too, with the latter acquiring the movie rights pretty early on in the day for a book that hasn’t even been published yet.”
