you have or had a dove, right? my friend is telling me not to get a bird, but I really want a dove. Do you have good experiences with the lil birb?

i can’t speak for all dove owners (especially because my bird seems to be way more social than i think a lot of doves are?), but Peej is literally one of the lights in my life right now! he’s super friendly and social, and loves to chill on my shoulder or lap when i’m drawing or going about my daily business. he even flies to me on his own from his cage if i leave the door open! he also loves hanging around new people so i can always introduce him to friends because he is so chill and i plan to start taking him out with me around town when i get a proper harness/leash for him. i adopted him at the animal shelter, not really sure what i was going to get, and i honestly i am so happy i did! the only downside to owning him so far has been the fact that he likes to bow-coo at 6 am when i’m sleeping. aha.

honestly, if you love birds i definitely recommend a dove!! the great thing about them is that in comparison to say parrots they are not loud and are also low-maintenance birds if you can’t care for a more demanding animal. but at the same time, they are still extremely loving and fun! just know that with any animal, you will most likely have to put forth the time and energy to socialize them properly so they are comfortable with being handled (i’m pretty sure most birds don’t come as friendly as mine did, i got super lucky). on top of that, be sure to do your research, of course, so you’ll have an understanding of how to properly care for your bird!

i would recommend a dove though. 10/10.
