SPYMASTER, LONDON

Spymaster have been at the forefront of surveillance and counter surveillance equipment for over twenty years. Offering the latest in communications technology, their flagship store in London’s Portman Square has become a landmark attracting visitors from all over the globe.

The Challenge : Bringing the store up to the same standard as the Spymaster concessions within Selfridges and Harrods - designed in recent years by Dover Design - meant the team had to modify designs for the various shop cabinets to suit the smaller floor area without losing display space and create work stations to accommodate four staff. A very short timeframe in which to carry out the refurbishment meant careful planning and implementation.

The Solution : Successfully completed over a two week period in early January the shop features a refurbished ‘nerve-centre’ reception desk, display cases in aluminium and glass housing a myriad of products, (including a mini-submarine) and office space all shoe-horned neatly into the shop floor. A carpeted area bordered by pale grey stone contrasts tonally with the predominantly black walls. The palette is accented by a red upholstered wall, red leather display beds to all the cabinets and red upholstered classic Jacobsen ‘Swan’ chairs. Vintage James Bond posters complete the striking interior.

The Results : Opening in mid-January, Spymaster recorded their best ever month of sales in March 2014 - a trading period that is traditionally their quietest of the year.

“After a few short meetings to discuss our “Wish list” Dover Design, and particularly George Georgiou, came up with a scheme that not only incorporated all of our initial requirements, but took everything to a level that we could never had anticipated.

Not only did they instruct the various trades but they oversaw the building, lighting, electrical and signage contractors.

2 weeks from start to finish and we ended up with a shop that is so “State of the art” that it has increased our footfall dramatically.

We cannot praise George and his team at Dover Design highly enough.

One of our recently completed projects 'Benito's Hat' in Farringdon, London has been selected to be part of 'Restaurant & Bar Design Week'.

Named after the first native Mexican president famous for his flamboyant headwear, ‘Benito’s Hat’ the site, a stone’s throw from Smithfield Market, features rough rendered finishes, exposed brickwork, ‘gas pipe’ wall lights paired with a forest of recycled ‘bucket’ pendants, park benches and a copper topped lunch counter that converts into a fully fledged tequila bar at night.

A framed portrait of Benito himself overlooks the entrance and a variety of hats hang from the decorative copper pipe over bar display. All capped with a signature crown of neon giving the restaurant a golden glow and a friendly inviting ambience in which to take up the offer of ‘Burrito’s and Margaritas’.

Taking place in London from the 28th July to 3rd August 2014 the ‘Restaurant & Bar Design Week’ will be a celebration of the most innovative new restaurants and bars, their interiors and furniture.
