I personally don’t live with the “ONLY learn what can be useful for your life” mindset. I don’t know, doesn’t feel like you’re exploring the world, just trying to find a way to use it for your own benefit. If I want to learn a dead language for fun, or buy that biology book even though I don’t study anything related to it, what’s the deal? I don’t see it as a waste of time, I like to explore what we have been given. I like to learn just for the sake of learning. Besides, “useless” knowledge is still knowledge. Maybe knowing lots about simbolist painters won’t get me a raise when I’m fifty, but it sure as heck makes me one happy bean. I don’t know, it’s just how I see it. Learning is something so beautiful, there’s no reason to be an elitist about it.

The faces of child marriage

Tehani, 8, Yemen. “Whenever I saw him, I hid. I hated to see him,” Tehani (in pink) recalls of the early days of her marriage to Majed, when she was 6 and he was 25. The young wife posed for a portrait with former classmate Ghada, also a child bride, outside their home in Hajjah.

Destaye, 11, and Addisu, 23, Ethiopia. Addisu and his new bride Destaye are married in a traditional Ethiopian Orthodox wedding in the rural areas outside the city of Gondar, Ethiopia. Community members said that because of his standing as a priest, Addisu’s bride had to be a virgin. This was the reason Destaye was given to him at such a young age.

Rajani, 5, India. Long after midnight, Rajani is roused from sleep and carried by her uncle to her wedding. Child marriage is illegal in India, so ceremonies are often held in the wee hours of the morning. It becomes a secret the whole village keeps, explained one farmer.

Bishal, 15, and Surita, 16, Nepal. Bishal accepts gifts from visitors as his new bride, Surita, sits bored at her new home. Here in Nepal, as in many countries, not only girls, but boys too are married young.

Faiz, 40, and Ghulam, 11, Afghanistan. Ghulam and Faiz sit for a portrait in her home before their wedding in Afghanistan. According to the U.S. Department of State report “Human Rights Practices for 2011,” approximately 60 percent of girls were married younger than the legal age of 16. Once the girl’s father has agreed to the engagement, she is pulled out of school immediately.

Sarita, 15, India. Sarita is seen in tears before she is sent to her new home with her new groom. The previous day, she and her 8-year-old sister Maya were married to sibling brothers.

Leyualem is transported by mule to her new home on her wedding day. The men later said the cloth was placed over her head so she would not be able to find her way back home, should she want to escape the marriage.

Asia, 14, Yemen. Asia washes her newborn at home in Hajjah while her 2-year-old daughter plays. Asia is still bleeding and ill from childbirth, yet has no knowledge of how to care for herself or access to maternal health care.

Mejgon, 16, Afghanistan. Mejgon weeps in the arms of her case worker near fellow residents at an NGO shelter run by Afghan women in Herat, Afghanistan. Mejgon’s father sold her at the age of 11 to a 60-year-old man for two boxes of heroin.

Jamila, 15, Afghanistan. Kandahar policewoman Malalai Kakar arrests a man who repeatedly stabbed his wife, 15 and mother of two children, for disobeying him. When asked what would happen to the husband for this crime, “Nothing,” Kakar said. “Men are kings here.” Kakar was later killed by the Taliban.

China, 18, Ethiopia. A young sex worker named China sits stunned after being beat up by a client. Many of the girls who run away from child marriages end up trafficked to brothels where they often face intense violence.

Bibi Aisha, 19, Afghanistan. In a practice known as “baad,” Bibi Aisha’s father promised her to a Taliban fighter when she was 6 years old as compensation for a killing that a member of her family had committed. She was married at 16 and subjected to constant abuse. At 18, she fled the abuse but was caught by police, jailed and then returned to her family. Her father-in-law, husband and three other family members took her into the mountains, cut off her nose and her ears, and left her to die. “I was a woman exchanged for someone else’s wrongdoing. [My new husband] was looking for an excuse to beat me.”

Nujood, 12, Yemen. Nujood Ali, two years after her divorce from her husband, who was more than 20 years her senior. Nujood’s story sent shock waves around the country and caused parliament to consider a bill writing a minimum marriage age into law. The bill is still pending. “Don’t let your children get married. You’ll spoil their educations, and you’ll spoil their childhoods [if] you let them get married so young.”

Bibi Aisha emigrated to the United States where she underwent several dozen reconstructive procedures and was adopted by an Afghan-American couple in Maryland. For whatever it’s worth, she is no longer living in the same conditions. I wish that could be said about all of the child brides in the world, but we know it cannot.

These children were not sold as property to grown men because of how they identified. Their parents were not confused about which of their children to sell to terrorists and adult men.

With Rajani, I saw that she was married to a 10 year old boy. Leagues better than an adult man. And that she would live with her family until puberty. Definitely not the best outcome but certainly better that others in her situation.

With Nujood, according to Wikipedia, her father never gave her the money from the profits of her book. She got married again in 2014 which would put her at 15 or 16 and now has two children.

Things I Do At The Start Of Every Month

• Upload and delete photos from my phone. Google Photos has become my best friend, so once a month I make sure to upload all my recent photos to it, and then delete (most of) them from my phone to free up space. •Figure out monthly finances and budget. I try to determine what the month should like for me money wise. Where do I have money coming in? Where is money most likely going to go? What’s the max I want to spend in each area? Sometimes it really helps, other times it doesn’t. •Review + rearrange calender. I pull up Google Calendar, my dry erase board and planner and make sure everything is the same in each. I add events, rearrange them, and delete others. •Make plans w/ friends and family. This isn’t something I do all the time, but if I really want to go out to eat or do something special with my mum or a sibling I’ll let them know and we’ll try to set a date to do so. •Schedule appointments. More like make a list of things I need to schedule in the upcoming days/week. •Make/Buy birthday/holiday cards. I usually handmake my cards so having them premade is less stressful than waiting the day before (or day of) to try and draw out something spectacular. •Plan off/zero/me days. It doesn’t matter what you call it. Sometimes you just need to make sure you have a day or two set to just focus on you. •Wash and clean car. I don’t own a car but I try to make sure the one I primarily ride in is fairly clean inside in general. •Change bedding. Actually, I do this more often now. I change my bedding twice a month and wash my pillowcases once a week. •Essentials shopping trip. If I’m in need of a face cleanser, lotion, toothpaste, I plan to go get it. •Deep clean my bedroom/Reorganise my spaces. That’s the only area I really have to clean. I’ll sweep/mop the floor. Dust everything down. Clean my mirrors. Reorganise my shelves, dresser top, and closet. •Write down broad goals and to-dos. Basically, a rough idea of what I hope to accomplish and things that have to get done over the next few weeks. •Wash makeup brushes/give my makeup a good wipe down. Have no fear, I wash my makeup brushes at least once a week and spray them down with my daily brush cleaner, but sometimes I get lazy and leave the ones I don’t use that often dirty. Therefore, I’ll go ahead and wash them and really clean off/disinfect my palettes, lipglosses, foundation etc •Pick two books to read this month. This is just from one of my yearly goals to read a new book every two months. I’ve been trying to choose one on my reading list and a ‘self-help’ type book.

Salam, some time ago I started extracting hadiths that belong to the Collection of Imam al-Bukhari out of a website to use it for a smartphone app I was planning. I also thought why not use that to also generate some pdf’s out of it. So thats what I have done here. There is one pdf containing all the books from Sahih al-Bukhari and there is also one pdf for each book of the collection. It only includes the hadith in the english translation, also there is the reference for each hadith (Hadith number of total collection & hadith number in that specific book). When you donwload the pdf you will be able to search through the document to find the hadiths that contain the word or exact phrase you are looking for. In sha Allah someone will benefit out of this. Anyway if you have any remarks or have found something that needs to be corrected, let me know.

All vaccines aim to expose the body to an antigen that won’t cause disease, but will provoke an immune response that can block or kill the virus if a person becomes infected. There are at least eight types being tried against the coronavirus, and they rely on different viruses or viral parts.

Virus vaccines

At least seven teams are developing vaccines using the virus itself, in a weakened or inactivated form. Many existing vaccines are made in this way, such as those against measles and polio, but they require extensive safety testing. Sinovac Biotech in Beijing has started to test an inactivated version of SARS-CoV-2 in humans.

Viral-vector vaccines

Around 25 groups say they are working on viral-vector vaccines. A virus such as measles or adenovirus is genetically engineered so that it can produce coronavirus proteins in the body. These viruses are weakened so they cannot cause disease. There are two types: those that can still replicate within cells and those that cannot because key genes have been disabled.

Nucleic-acid vaccines

At least 20 teams are aiming to use genetic instructions (in the form of DNA or RNA) for a coronavirus protein that prompts an immune response. The nucleic acid is inserted into human cells, which then churn out copies of the virus protein; most of these vaccines encode the virus’s spike protein.

Protein-based vaccines

Many researchers want to inject coronavirus proteins directly into the body. Fragments of proteins or protein shells that mimic the coronavirus’s outer coat can also be used.

Industry trials

More than 70% of the groups leading vaccine research efforts are from industrial or private firms. Clinical trials start with small safety studies in animals and people, followed by much larger trials to determine whether a vaccine generates an immune response. Researchers are accelerating these steps and hope to have a vaccine ready in 18 months.

if you don’t have time to listen, the watered down gist is a lot of the companies are 1 partially funded by an organization that gave them money in return for rights to distribute the vaccine (for free iirc, feel free to correct me) when it was finished, 2 there are a bunch of new methods for vaccine development being used in this case that are both safer and faster than normal.

Sydnee expresses her own concerns about the vaccine and everything that’s happening, but if a real life doctor says there’s hope I will believe her.
