Okay in my house we have a strange tradition. My mother builds this beautiful Christmas village.
It wraps all around our house through the rooms and under the trees and itâs wonderful.
Every year she hides the Christmas Vampire
This started when I was a very small got child and spread to all of my friends, including my best friend from elementary school who I just so happened to grow up and marry. Now that we have grown up and moved nearly 600 miles away we still always go home for a week at Christmas for multiple reasons, including the Christmas Vampire.
Needless to say we still partake and things have gotten heated.
Stay tuned for the epic conclusion and to see my husband and father in Lin-Manuel Mirandaâs sooty costume when I find the Christmas Vampire First!
Happy Haunting!
Dad has no fricken clue how to trash talk and I donât trust him in the slightest.
The saga continues. Mom hasnt finished the village yet and itâs starting to get to herâŠ.
Hahahaha, I mean I love this on multiple levels. But what really threw it over the top was the momâs anxiety over the world-building and city design being right. I feel you vampire-hiding mom, I feel you.
can I just say that the Christmas Vampire is infinitely preferable to the Elf on the Shelf

I love this stupid fucking meme
Will never not be funny!
Ever needed to hear about mad dad birds with enormous feet? Try THESE on for size:
Whatâs that you say? These are clearly the feet of a dinosaur, not a bird? WHY NOT BOTH?
This is Australiaâs very own dinosaur, the second-largest bird in the world, the emu. Say hi!
They roam around Australia making âwonk-wonkâ noises under their breath and glaring at everything. And the dads take care of the babies! They sit on the eggsâŠ
They look after the tiny stripey adorable thingsâŠ.
They look after the less tiny less adorable thingsâŠ
And they even look after the great big menacing things that are almost as big as they are.
But hereâs the catch. All emus look pretty much alike. Especially when you are a tiny stripey adorable thing. All you can see of your dad is is great big dinosaur feet (see picture #1). So there is one very unrealistic thing about all the adorable terrifying dinosaur family photos above:
I have never seen an emu family in the wild where all the babies are the same size.
Here is the reason!
Emu dad and his emu babies are roaming about wonking and glaring at everyone. Suddenly emu dad sees another emu dad! A threat!
Emu dads do some display threats with dancing and bouncing and fluffing and⊠look, itâs very serious business, okay?
If this does not work to see off one emu they might progress to actual fighting.
Oops, sorry, you wanted the dignified version. Here, have some ART:
MAGNIFICENT.
Either way, this encounter will end up with one or both adult emus zooming away as fast as he can run. This is very fast.
This is the other thing they do besides wonking and glaring, by the way. They run. Fear the running emu.
Anyway, this leaves all the tiny and medium-sized and semi-large stripey things milling around making confused tiny âcheep? wonk?â noises and basically just following whichever pair of large feet they can find.
HI DAD
And so mostly when you see a male emu with a gaggle of youngsters at heel, they are all different sizes. Who knows whose they are? Not him! But heâs going to look after them anyway.
Fear him.

i turned on the light in the dining room but Tubby had been sleeping in a chair and it woke her up and she was Not Pleased
yes
however we recently got her a new ceramic fountain that better suits her aesthetic
and her own fainting couch
but she still prefers a good lap whenever possible
@unpretty what is Ms. Tubbyâs full name if it is not Tubby?
Tubbitha
my hair is VERY soft and could EASILY be played with and you know how many people are playing with my hair??? zero
Relationships get so bananas when you start deciphering the other personâs love language.
Like I thought I was just acquaintances with this person because they never told me details about themselves and we just talked movies and writing . But then they made time to have coffee with me and they showed up out of breath because they ran. Like. RAN to be on time for coffee with me?
And I was like âi donât mind waitingâ cause I never want to run
But they said they wanted every minute they could get because Iâm so busy usually
Which is when it clicked that I didnât get how much they considered me a friend because I just straight away didnât see MY signs of affection in them and went âcool! Casual buds it is.â But now that Iâm seeing their signs of affection, I feel a little silly for dismissing them like that even though I felt like we could be best bros.
Anyway, some people show affection through time or intensity or commitment and not vocally. I really have to remember that!
Fyi- just in case you didnât know.
TOUCH got a bro that likes to give high fives? Back slaps? Are they a hugger? Do they not blink an eye at cuddles?
QUALITY TIME this bro will (as op stated) sprint to spend every minute possible with you. Every second that you guys are together is a declaration of affection.
WORDS does your bro tell you how amazing and great and fantastic and wonderful you are all the time? Guess what
GIFTS do they buy you coffee? Snacks, energy drinks, spot you at the restaurant? Did that one key chain remind them of you? Ding ding!
ACTS are they always doing things for you? Ie: Nah bro, I got this, I can do that, need me to get anything for you, I can help with
PRO TIP - The way people show love is often how they receive love as well.
Can I just say how much I love seeing this applied to friends / platonic relationships, when Iâve only seen it about romantic ones before?
The dog is supposed to run up in front of her and sit.

IâM TRYING TO PROVE A POINT TO MY MOTHER!! HELP!!
So very rarely do i post but this is making me crazy!
My Mom Loves all things fantasy and S-Fi and and thinks it is so totally awesome that I am a Dungeon Master. Â
I have asked her multiple time if she wanted to play but she always comes up with some excuse to not play but will sit nearby fascinated by the game.
She finally admitted to me today that she thinks that at 57 she is âToo Oldâ to play even though she loves it.
PLEASE RE-BLOG THIS AS MANY TIME AS POSSIBLE TO HELP ME PROVE TO HER THAT SHE IS ALLOWED TO PLAY NO MATTER HER AGE!!!Â
I want a home mostly just to welcome people into it. There will be bowls of candy for guests, and the cookie jar is full. Iâll always say âI was just about to make a coffee/tea/cocoa, would you like one?â when somebody walks in. Thereâs lemonade and iced tea made fresh on hot days. Once it hits That Hour and they start saying they really should be going, Iâll remind them that the futon is always open, and Iâm making cinnamon rolls tomorrow. Thereâs champagne and sparkling juice hidden on a high shelf just in case somebody announces their engagement or their pregnancy or their new job while theyâre here. There is an extra chair in the living room, at the table, and on the deck, and itâs for you. I want to be able to say âif youâre ever in trouble, come to me.â
I was walking through the toy aisle at Target when I found this thing and had a VIOLENT AND IMMEDIATE FLASHBACK to when JP first came out and they had a bunch of REALLY COOL T Rex toys that I would have sold one of my scrawny small-child limbs for but my mother wouldnât get me one because they were âtoo violent and also ate peopleâ :(
hnn I WANT IT SO BAD
on closer inspection, it makes a lot of really obnoxious noises and is also Too Expensive. BUT FEAR NOT I found this slightly smaller dude wedged in the back!
IT HAS BITE ACTION, AND THATâS THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS
now we enter the testing phase
yup. looks good.
Extreme Chompin T-Rex says ITâS NEVER TOO LATE TO FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS
Can we take a moment to appreciate that we can use this as a rosetta stone to say âEXTREME CHOMPINâ â in four languages?
OH SHIT YOUâRE RIGHT, let me check the garbage to see if itâs still there! hopefully I didnât destroy it in my excitement
*roar sound effect*
IMPORTANT UPDATE:
update update: I re-sized her collar and found a bag of toy bones at the craft store. I havenât put this much effort into a non-school thing since my last job search, help
(secret bonus: the other side of her tag)
Thereâs more!
I love this sooo much! I found Dino pots at Target and I walked by them (because I was looking for something else). And of course Target didnât have the thing I was looking for. I debated for several minutes and then I thought....why not. I love dino things so much it makes me happy....why not....so I now have these lil guys!Â
Whew child, the conservation of capitalism
Even tho minimum wage ought to be at $20 an hour tho
At least!!!!!!!!!!
Fucking flipping burgers come on seriously
Are you saying people who flip burgers donât deserve $20/hr? Lol as if all they do is flip burgers and NOTHING else. Please. Supervisors at bank call centers eat and gossip the entire Fucking shift and make SALARY. While the phone bankers make $13-$15 an hour taking calls for 7 hours mostly non stop with two 15 minute breaks and one 30 minute lunch break. So you can sit tf down if you thought you could place value on peoples jobs like youâre qualified.
People deserve a livable wage. Period.
PERIOD
How do you justify flipping burgers making more than someone doing hard labors
Who said anything about making more than somebody else?
Why the fuck are yâall looking down on people who do flip burgers????? So people who flip burgers donât deserve to have a livable wage? As if food service ainât hard labor âŠ.
I wish yâall would make sense when yâall comment on these posts.
Not that I should have to justify their labor but people crack me up with this just flipping burgers shit. How do you think trucks get put away? Supplies get put away? Who do you think does the ordering of all the food that you eat? How do you think dishes get washed? Who do you think cleans the stores including the bathroom? Food has to be properly dated. The temperature of food has to be taken to ensure it doesnât fall into the danger zone. Most people who handle food have to pass OSHA tests. They have to pass inspections by both the health department and other outside companies like Steritech. Food handlers work with dangerous equipment like fryers, slicers, meat grinders. Which are not always in the best shape because companies are to cheap to maintain them. Not to mention working with the public who have a low opinion of them because they âjust flip burgers.â Yet these same people will throw a hissy fit if their fast food isnât served fast enough because they really think all fast food works (and other food handlers) just flip burgers. Â Â
Not to mention grease burns are a daily thing for burger makers.
Any. Single. Retail or food service job I have EVER had was harder physically and mentally/emotionally than every office job I ever had COMBINED. No office job has ever expected me to stay on my feet the entire time I was there. No office job has ever pulled that âif you have time to lean, you have time to cleanâ fuckshittery on me. No office job has had random twerps coming in to scream at me to break company rules or state and federal laws because they need their particular fix as a nigh-daily feature.
Take your âfnuh fnuh burger flippersâ and lick my drippings, you elitist clumptrumpet.
okay but it doesnât matter what kind of job they do, if itâs a full-time job, they need to make a liveable wage. if they donât do enough work, hire fewer people and pay the people you do hire a liveable wage. and then you can justify firing them because they arenât worth the money. ofc if someone isnât doing their job, fire them.Â
âit doesnât matter what kind of job they do, if itâs a full-time job, they need to make a liveable wage â
People who look down on food service workers need to be added to some kind of database that bans them from every restaurant in the world. If itâs âjust flipping burgersâ then you should have no problem doing it yourself for yourself, all the time.
I may not have a popular opinion on this issue...but as long as the cost of living continues to rise along with minimum wage raises...it wonât matter how much money one makes. If X amount of money per hour @ 40 hours a week could afford to pay groceries, make rent, make the car payment, pay insurance on car and self, and pay for any needed medications and any other needed expense for the cost of living....then we would not be having this issue. However, when the cost of labor goes up...people and companies up their prices thus negating the increase in pay (often to the point of increasing poverty).Â
The issue we are having here isnât one of people not being paid enough....the issue we have is that people (people in corporations and power) make it so that they donât lose money paying their employees and they do this by raising the cost of their product to balance out the wages they pay out (and if you work in retail it is likely that your pay increase pays back into either your store or at another retail place).Â
I have come to both enjoy and hate pay raises. I enjoy them because I feel like Iâm being rewarded for doing well....I hate them because usually when I get one it seems that the price of something I need or often purchase (certain food items) increases. Iâd rather see the price of products decrease than get pay raises because then at least more people would be able to afford the things they want/need.Â
I donât know what the solution is because Iâm not a professor of economics or vastly knowledgeable about how or even why we trade useless paper for useful items...or even wealthy...(I work grocery retail in CA....so you can imagine with decent accuracy that Iâm in the same boat as burger flippers sans those $tips$)âŠ..but I donât think inflation of both wages AND product is the solution....I donât know what it is....but this issue, like many, doesnât seem to have many people who are actually working on a viable solution to a problem that is really hurting a lot of people.
