Pleaaaaaaase just watch the show first Trust Me you will likely have a much better time, you can read the books later when you’re really invested and you’ll get more out of them when you can pick up on the early foreshadowing.

I adore these books, but the show is a much better and more accessible point of entry for most people new to the story. Even if just for ease of watching 8 episode seasons instead of reading 800 page bricks. Also the show’s gayer and has more early focus on and development of the main female characters.

And there is truly something for everyone in this show!

It has great costumes! Stunning set design! Fabulous hair and makeup! Amazing dialogue and character development! A huge cast of interesting and diverse characters that make it impossible to get bored or pick a favorite! Queer rep! Well choreographed fight scenes! Hot people! Tons of powerful and well written women! Tons of immersive fantasy elements!

That's all I can think of quickly and this is why I think it's one of the best fantasy shows ever made.

Hi! After the recent episode I’m wondering were original Aiel Aes Sedai servants or like slaves? The scene with Lanfear and Rand ancestor was very confusing regarding their relationship. Don’t want to go to wiki and spoil myself

Congratulations for asking the question that haunts me every time I reread the Rhuidean section or think about the Aiel!

So the short answer is that what you see in the show is about what we know of the dynamic. We get a little bit more context in the books, but not much, really only the kind you get from being in a person's head as a point of view versus watching a tv show.

The Aiel were servants to the Aes Sedai during the Age of Legends. The Aiel were a servant race. Different families served individual Aes Sedai and they were all dedicated to extreme nonviolence, which is somewhat odd given they lived in an age that didn't even know what war was. The Age of Legends was a utopia of absolute peace (up until the moment you see in the show, at least). And the Aes Sedai had what appears to be a slave race of people indoctrinated into never committing violence. Its.....there's something going on, but we can't really do more than speculate because we never get anymore context.

I made a post about it a year ago, that basically just sums up what I just said in slightly different words but I reread it for spoilers and its fine to read as long as you watched this episodes

Always amusing when people get upset that fictional worlds not meant to resemble established history don’t accurately resemble established history. I'm pretty sure Robert Jordan never intended for the setting to be high medieval, but closer to the renaissance. The show, though, has just embraced the idea that it is all post-apocalyptic and therefore fashion can be whatever they want it to be.
