It was nice having a friend around to talk to. Brushstia’s presence was like a breath of fresh air that the jester hadn’t realized that he needed.
A new perspective to an out that he hadn’t seen before. And a huge help that he desperately needed.
They were a much bigger help than the clones, and since they perfected the art of sneaking around, they helped inform him of things going on outside their little hiding hole.
“It’s a mess, mon ami.” Their tail dragged in slow sweeps as Brushstia fiddled with the measuring tape. “Ze ‘umans ‘ave been talking about somezing.”
“When are they not talking?” Bittergiggle huffed, pinning another piece of fabric to the mannequin.
“I’m being serious, Giggle.” Bushstia huffed. “From what I ‘eared, ze scientists are getting restless. Ze are not getting what zey desire with zeir experiments and tests. I fear zey might do somezing reckless very soon.”
“Humans have always been reckless.” The jester stepped back, examining his work. “They’ve always had a bad habit of poking their noses in things and pushing past limits that shouldn’t be disturbed. Creating and making things that shouldn’t exist. Like me, you, and the rest of the Mutants that are stuck down here.”
A hum of agreement left the anteater, nodding their head. “True. Les humains ont toujours mis les pieds là où ils n'auraient jamais dû aller. It is zeir unfortunate nature. But, I AM being serious, mon ami. From what I ‘eard, ze ‘umans might be planning somezing. Somezing… bad.”
This made Bittergiggle pause, looking away from his work. “Bad?” He echoed, feeling a sense of dread. “… how bad?”
Brushstia shrugged. “Who can say? ‘Umans ‘ave always been an eeeeeeeh… enigma. Zey do zings one way, zen zey do it ze other way. Zere is no telling what exactly zey are up too. But I advise you keep an eye out. For your sake.” They cast a glance over their shoulder. “And for your Petit.”
Bittergiggle glanced over his shoulder, looking towards the small area Scylla and the clones were at. The pair were saying something, hopefully nothing that Bittergiggle would disagree being said around his daughter, with the smaller Mutant watching them intently. The pair had begged him to help Scylla practice her speech, and he was having second doubts about it as so far, Scylla hadn’t made any progress speaking coherently out of baby babble.
“… do you think this place is still safe? No one knows we’re here… right?”
“Aside from moi? No.” The anteater gave his shoulder a gentle pat. “But it is best to be aware of zings around you.”
Bittergiggle nodded in agreement. “… how are things in the Kingdom? Is Toadster… you know.”
“Still on ze war path to finding you and demanding answers about ze closes.”
“I just wanted to make the perfect jokester!”
“No one is perfect, mon ami.” Bushstia tutted as they patted the jester’s back in sympathy.

Banban’s Kingdom had been a popular tv show back in the day.
An artsy, cute, colorful show that drew in many viewers and had relatively positive reviews since its first episode.
She had been one of those kids who had been instantly drawn to the colorful, unidentified species of characters that danced, sang, taught, and entertained her on the screen when she was little. She was drawn to the colorful cast, mainly towards the residents of the Kingdom, to the Queen and her Jester.
Maybe it had just been her girlish desire to be a princess that drew her towards the queen, or maybe she just liked the character and how easily she solved problems with her wisdom and how smart she was to turn a situation around. The Queen reminded her a bit of her mother. Strong, authoritative, but sweet and kind-hearted in a motherly way.
The Queen had been a good character, but it was the Jester that drew her in the most.
A funny, asymmetrical being. Clusty and nosey with a bad habit of getting themselves in trouble, but genuinely good-hearted and eager to help whenever they could. Most episodes had them as the catalyst for the main problem, but whatever lesson she was supposed to learn never really quite stuck when she saw the Jester on screen.
Watching the way that they moved. Hearing their voice that had more emotion to it than the rest of the characters of the show. How they made her laugh over the simplest things. She would almost dare to say that the Jester was much more iconic that the titular character, Banban. When she talked about the show to her friends, all she would talk about was the Jester. How they made her laugh, smile, and how colorful they were. The Jester was all she could focus on.
As years passed, her attention shifted to other shows. Shows that had better graphics, animation, voice acting. Shows that actually made sense in a way that stuck.
Her friends moved on from the kiddy show that had once been all they could talk about and she too gradually forgot about Banban and his cast of colorful friends as she grew older.
But she never quite forgot about the Jester.
Oh sure, time and more popular shows had pushed Banban and his friends away from the screen, but she never could forget about the Jester.
That half-smile, half-frowning face was very hard to forget, even to this day when she had grown up and had kids of her own.
She was still drawn to Banban’s Kingdom, even if it was only just to see the Jester one more time. Her aunt from her husband’s side would roll her eyes fondly whenever she caught her reading to the twins those old books, hoping to stir their love for the Jester as much as she had enjoyed them when she was a kid.
Martha had been a big help to her and the twins. Helping her out when things went from bad to worse, never asking much in return. She had been close with her husband when he was still around, and despite hardly knowing much about her, she had mercifully taken her in when she had nowhere else to go, helping her settle and lending a hand with the twins. If not for Martha’s kindness, she wasn’t sure what would have happened to her and her babies.
She just wished that her husband could be here with them. Being a family like they had talked about before… everything…
When she heard news that Banban’s Kingdom was getting a reboot, she had been ecstatic. The return of Banban meant that the Jester was coming back as well! Her favorite character returning to the screen and bringing back the joy she had as a child!
Or so she thought.
Every news, every article, every bit of information she scavenged about the show had no mention of the Jester anywhere. In fact, a good number of characters from the original had been dropped.
The Snail.
The Toad.
One of the Birds.
Both the Spiders.
The Queen, and many other iconic characters as well.
She felt crushed. But she should have expected as much.
People in power really only cared about money and not quality. And Banban’s Kingdom only did originally have six ‘main’ characters to start out with, but it felt like such a missed opportunity cutting all those other characters out.
The Leech.
The Artist.
The Dino Cat.
The Scientist
The Balloon Person Thing.
But what was most crushing was the fact that the Jester was nowhere to be found. Her favorite being who, in her opinion, had been a key character of the whole show. Without them around, she had lost most of her interest for the reboot and wanted nothing to do with it any further.
That was how it was supposed to go. But life was never easy on her.
There weren’t many options of schools, and it was just her luck that the only place she could afford just happened to be a kindergarten based on that very show she loved as a child. Was it ironic? Yes. But it was the only place she could afford to send the twins, and not far from Martha’s work place.
As much as she didn’t like thinking about how her favorite character was nowhere in sight, she had to suck it up and deal with it for the twins sake.
After all, it was just a kindergarten. Kindergartens were meant to be fun and inspiring kids to learn. Nothing more than that!
And the kids were having fun and making friends, so she shouldn’t complain much about it. Though if she did have a complaint, it was the fact that the upcoming Bring A Friend day just happened to fall on her workday. The very same day she had already promised to take over for one of her coworkers and couldn’t back out now.
If she didn’t constantly shave down one side of her head, she’d be tearing her hair out of frustration.
At least Martha could be there for her kids. She just hoped that the twins wouldn’t be too upset with her for not going to the Bring A Friend day thing with them, and that no other hiccups would pop up.
She made a silent promise to make it up to the twins later while slightly wondering what exactly this Bring A Friend day exactly was.
Probably nothing. Just a fun family activity day and nothing more. Such a shame that she couldn’t attend. She did wonder what type of fun the teachers had planned for everyone that day to make it a big thing.
🧪
Babies.
Babies.
Babies all around the room.
Baby here.
Baby there.
Baby up there.
And baby down there.
Her eyes kept darting about, feeling the itch to pluck each baby up and take them back to her nest.
The urge to keep them safe ran deep in her.
To fight and guard these little beings surrounding her.
A baby would come up to her, stroking her feathers or pulling at them.
Climbing her back or feeding her one of those ‘crackers’ that were awful.
She didn’t mind.
She never minded.
Babies were innocent.
They were forgivable.
Adults were not.
Her eyes darted toward the wall, glaring at the tall humans standing behind it.
During the process on designing the prototype, this was one of the designs that I really liked and used it as a test animation to show to the team on a possible final entrance for him. At the time I was watching Arcane S2 and thought that Viktor's voice would suit him as his true voice haha.
Follow my coworker Max, they were responsible for designing the Prototype :D
