This is my 'kin blog. Being 'kin is a state of being in which someone experiences being nonhuman or fictional. More historical and other info here.
Those are the basics. If you're not on desktop and are nosy I put other things below the cut.
I'm grumpy and tired because being 'kin is important to me and by god does this community test my patience. I know I have a lot of kintypes, and I hate it. I have a personal site here where I dump writing about my experiences.
Parts of my self that are most relevant to this blog:
- Rin Kagamine [Vocaloid, Fictive]
- Domestic Black Cat [Therian]
- Meowstic (M) [Pokemon, Fictionkin]
- Sayaka Maizono [Dangan Ronpa, Fictionkin]
- Ivlis [The Gray Garden, Fictionkin]
- C-ta [Shuuen no Shiori, Fictionkin]
- Mika Kagehira [Ensemble Stars, Fictionkin]
- Crows [Otherhearted]
I usually prefer to use the reply function on my main, so I'll usually only reblog here if I can't use it or have a lot to say. We'll see.
Politely requesting that Itsuki and Satanick not reach out to me directly to try and talk; there's a lot I still can't deal with regarding memories of you and would prefer to avoid that stress.
We've seen a lot of 30 day alterhuman challenges around, which is awesome! I wanted to make my own, specifically to cater to alterhumans with connections to Pokemon! Feel free to change questions a little to suit your identity better, or other such stuff. The point of this isn't to strictly adhere to the challenge, it's moreso to get more works by pokemon fictionfolk out there!
Text below cut. Pokemon 'kin symbol here (used in absence of a Pokemon alterhuman symbol).
A wild Pokemon fictionfolk challenge has appeared!

CHALLENGE: Come up with a New Year's resolution that has something to do with your alterhumanity. Write some concrete plans and goals you can make that would nurture this part of you. As part of this, research how to do anything relevant that you wonder how to do. Figure out some milestones and dates to reach them by.
my current identification as a flame demon doesn't come solely from my emalf kintype. it is not as simple as i am a flame demon because i am emalf, which is the type of connection i feel in relation to being a troll.
no, i am a flame demon because of my culture, flame world culture. it is as important to me as my culture as a brazilian.
there are a lot of parallels in these experiences. both in the way we are treated by outsiders, but also the way the people from my region are treated by the rest of the country. we built your cities and yet we're mistreated and ignored. they treat us as less, as stupid and useless, but in the eyes of the outsiders, we're all the same and nothing like they say. that is what being a flame demon, one who came from the lower town, feels like.
flame world culture could be defined by many things. militarism, ignorance, inequality, hostility.. but, to me, flame demon culture is marked by the kinship we share with one another. we know what is like to be us.
[Plain text: Megacon London / Otherkin and Therian Meetup / Sunday 25th Jan / Location TBD / 2pm Start /end plain text]
I meant to post this here sooner but I forgot, whoops. Come to my event! This meet is geared at therians and otherkin but we are pro all alterhumans, not just nonhumans :)
I hope to host more meets / howls around South East England, so even if you can’t make it this time keep an eye on our insta @/kin.meets or the megacon website cosplay meets page (there was nowhere else to list it on the site)
So, I've seen a lot of amazing templates made for otherkin on here, and I was inspired (especially by the template made by @/nyctohyloph0bia!) to make my own.
I wanted this template to be extremely in-depth, so I tried to include as many questions as I could think of.
This was made with fictionkin in mind, but anyone can use it! I only ask that if you do, please show me in reblogs so I can see!!! :)
(Also, please don't crop my username at the top off, that's for crediting purposes.)
Was thinking about this after seeing it so I think I'm going to ramble after all.
It feels like there's less of a distance/difference between the communities today, but self-shippers used to be more overtly hostile towards fictionkin, and I think it's still worth understanding part of why; and it was at least somewhat from the sentiment expressed in this ask.
For some self-shippers (or whatever term they choose for themself; I know some used to call themselves schediaphiles but I don't know whether that's in use anymore) part of the point of their self-ships was the impossibility of a relationship akin to a physical one. Because of its one-sided nature in which the other side of it was purely felt or imagined, it felt safer than a physical relationship, which may repulse them for numerous reasons.
Thus, fictionkin actually being their F/Os was perceived a a threat to that barrier; that just because someone who's fictionkin is that character, they might feel like they can receive those same feelings the self-shipper has for their F/O, when the aspect of them existing physically in this world and having the same complexities as any other physical relationship is something they're overtly trying to avoid.
The same way we might feel uncomfortable encountering people who self-ship with us due to the intrusive nature of it (whether it's from someone we don't know being overtly romantic towards us or any other reason), some self-shippers can feel the same way towards us, that we break the feeling of safety that can come from engaging in fictional media that cannot physically hurt you or talk back to you.
Ultimately, I think just having respect towards each other's boundaries, the differing nature of our communities, and the ways we connect to that aspect of our identities is the most important part. We shouldn't assume that self-shippers would automatically also be interested in us due to sharing an identity with their F/O, and self-shippers shouldn't assume that we'd be flattered to hear everything they feel about us (among many other possible points of conflict on both ends).
Everyone is a stranger until we actually get to know each other in the here and now. Be respectful of others and the difference they have in their experiences, and remember the block button is your friend.
Using "kin" as a verb and "kins" to refer to kintypes is not alterhuman terminology. Using the word "kin" this way originated on Tumblr around 10 years ago when the broader community here learned about otherkin and tried to turn nonhuman identities into a fad without learning anything about our community. Most of the people involved called themselves "kinnies", and they were notorious for publicly harassing and mocking real otherkin.
While people on here may understand what you mean when you say "I kin wolves" or "mothman is one of my kins", please be aware that otherkin from other communities, as well as older Tumblr users, will think you are either roleplaying or making fun of them if you use these terms.
Here is what to do and not do when discussing your experiences:
Example 1
"Angel is one of my kins" ❌
"I kin angels" ❌
"Angel is one of my kintypes" ✅
Example 2
"I'm kinning unicorns right now" ❌
"I think I might have a unicorn kintype" ✅
"I am having a unicorn shift" ✅
If you've been using the wrong terms because you weren't aware of the established community terminology that isn't your fault, and you haven't done anything bad! I am posting this reminder because people who use "kins" and "kinning" are setting themselves up for bad interactions with other alterhumans, and that doesn't need to happen :)
Yeah, you. Fictionkin, fictive, fictionhearted, fictionlinker, fictionflicker--whatever else you may be in the tags. I wanna get some potentially positivity and experience sharing going because there's some Stuff that isn't great in the tags right now but ALSO I think fictionfolk as a whole (and not just identify-as fictionfolk but yes those too) deserve a nice little platform to share their experiences. Fictionkin criteria is: do you identify as (experience life as, exist as, etc) a fictional character (or something from a fictional world)?
That's it. Shifts, memories, and the like are common experiences you'll find in the community, but they aren't required in any sense to call oneself fictionkin. That's not in the definition.
Are you fictionfolk? Do you have a personal website? We'd love to have you join our webring!
We've have yet to see anyone make fictionfolk webring, so we're filling the gap ourselves. Learn more on our website. We have more info there on what we're doing, how to join and even links to the resources we used to build everything.
(And please ignore the cat ispum, it's placeholder text till more members join.)
What is a webring?
It's basically a collection of websites, that you can cycle through and view via a widget all the sites put up. This means, that by using our webring, you can easily browse through a bunch cool websites made by fictionfolk without having to scour the internet! Neat!
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us.
We've just created a webring for alterhumans (any and all alterhumans!) called Alterhuman Assembly.
More information can be found on our website. An example of what the widget looks like can be found on our homepage on the left-hand sidebar.
We recently lost the Alterhuman Summoning Circle, a very large webring of alterhumans. We'd love to be able to rebuild such a community of netizens creating digital spaces all their own.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us here on tumblr or at [email protected]
Despite not really aligning with spirituality in regards to my fictotype, I keep catching myself referring to my fictotype as something from the past??? (ex: "I wish how I once was", "I was (thing)", "I want to (thing) again")
Why am I longing for a past that never existed? Wtf is up with me?
I am him now, but I also remember being him too? Is that even possible with a psychological fictotype?????
me when im confused and don't know something and might have to actually ask someone (I will not because interaction with others scares me)
The only real difference between spiritual and psychological is the theory for what you believe caused your kintype; the experiences themselves can be virtually identical.
When it comes to memories, false memories exist. The brain can create memories of a situation that never happened, and this is one of its well-known quirks. This does lead to some psychological 'kin experiencing 'memories' of something that should have never happened. It absolutely isn't the first time I've heard of it.
I don't currently have any theory for why I myself am fictionkin, but I too tend to automatically refer to my kintypes' lives in past tense because, speaking chronologically, if I remember being something that I am now not, it had to have happened in a 'past'. It tends to be convenient, language-wise, to speak about it this way.
Unless you feel like it's important for you to analyze this for yourself, I don't think it's something to stress yourself over, and it isn't unusual for those in the community to experience things like this. The brain has many oddities.
