y’all ever see a piece of fan content about your favorite character that is so horrifically different from what you personally believe and you just
sometimes you say or do bad things while you’re in an awful mental place. sometimes you say things that are rude or uncalled for or manipulative. and i’m not going to hold that against you. mental illness is hard, and no one is perfect. but once you’re through that episode, you need to take steps to make amends. you need to apologize.
“i couldn’t help it, i was having a bad episode” is a justification, not an apology.
“i’m so fucking sorry, i fucked up, i don’t deserve to live, i should stop talking to anyone ever, i should die” is a second breakdown and a guilt trip. it is not an apology.
when you apologize, the focus should be on the person you hurt. “i’m sorry. i did something that was hurtful to you. even if i was having a rough time, you didn’t deserve to hear that,” is a better apology. if it was a small thing, you can leave it at that.
if you caused significant distress to the other person, this is a good time to talk about how you can minimize damage in the future. and again, even if it is tempting to say you should self-isolate and/or die, that is not a helpful suggestion. it will result in the person you’re talking to trying to talk you out of doing that, which makes your guilt the focus of the conversation instead of their hurt.
you deserve friendship, and you deserve support. but a supportive friend is not an emotional punching bag, and mental illness does not absolve you of responsibility for your actions. what you say during a mental breakdown doesn’t define you. how you deal with the aftermath though, says a lot.
This is the most carefully-nuanced discussion of this I think I have ever seen. Thank you for writing this.

today i’ve seen a lot about disney ‘copyrighting’ loki. the whole thing seemed rather ridiculous to me, so i decided to do some research; it’s still a sketchy situation all around but as someone who is close with people who are practicing norse pagans, i felt like it was important to share.
firstly: the mouse did not, actually, do anything here in regards to the redbubble artist. it was actually redbubble that sent the email and took the work down, because the artist was copying a shirt from the comics. as in, it’s literally on the cover of a comic book, same text, color, and all.
the email alert to the artist was likely auto-generated. the email states: “…in most cases, this means that the rights holder did not specifically identify your work for removal.” so redbubble is being overly cautious here.
is it silly? yes. we won’t argue that point. it’s two words on a t-shirt.
secondly: that article is poorly researched and written. their “source” for their claim that disney might trademark mythological depictions of loki is the artist who was copying the shirt. according to the article: “Even art specifically of the Norse deity, which predates the MCU character by a handful of centuries, could be claimed, according to an artist who posted a takedown notice of their Loki art from Redbubble.”
‘could be claimed,’ says the artist. so what i’ve just read is that disney isn’t actually claiming anything. the artist is upset that their copied work was removed from redbubble by redbubble and is making baseless claims.
then i got to thinking about “the rights holder,” being the mouse. where does that leave us? do they hold the rights to loki? can they even do that?
the answer is no — sort of.
from what i can tell (and again, i’m an internet random, so i may be wrong!) it appears that the mouse is not copyrighting the norse gods, they’re trademarking their particular versions of loki — so comic depictions, movie depictions, etc. “marvel’s loki,” vs norse loki, basically, or “loki as depicted by tom hiddleston.” meaning any unauthorized art that could be linked to disney’s trademarked version of loki is within the company’s rights to have removed. but again, in this situation that started the whole kerfluffle, it was redbubble that removed it.
then i got to thinking a little more: what’s the difference between trademark and copyright?
as it turns out, copyright and trademark are two very different things. here’s an article that details it fairly clearly, but this snippet below is a pretty good summary.
“Overall, copyright protects literary and artistic materials and works, such as books and videos, and is automatically generated upon creation of the work. A trademark, on the other hand, protects items that help define a company brand, such as a business logo or slogan, and require more extensive registration through the government for the greatest legal protections.”
so disney has trademarked their particular version of loki. trademark is also limited to a particular context. the mouse trademarking loki in the context of a superhero/comic book world means that he cannot be made into a comic book hero or villain by anyone but marvel.
tl;dr — don’t panic if you are someone who counts loki or anyone else in the norse pantheon among your deities. a very overzealous redbubble, not disney, was the one who took down the shirt and sent the email, and they state in that email that “in most cases, the rights holder did not identify your work for removal.” the article that claims that disney is trademarking loki is poorly researched, written, and designed to freak you out.
Once again folks: yes, Disney sucks, but let's not freak out about stuff that isn't actually happening because that just makes it easier for them to play the victim if they so choose.
Know what's ACTUALLY happening and be mad about THAT when it's warranted, but don't fall for scurrilous outrage-bait just because it's aimed at a corporation that genuinely does generally suck.
The most unrealistic thing about Tangled (2010) is that Rapunzel brushes her extremely long hair from top to bottom instead of bottom to top. Seriously, her roots must be hurting, how has she now lost all of her hair from it breaking. (I know I know magic or whatever, but still)
Having a hypersensitivity to noise is instinctually going to turn down or mute the volume on your phone and then realizing that your phone volume is already turned all the way down and the noises you're hearing are just from your surroundings.
I just registered for the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan’s Summer Stroll for Epilepsy. Here’s some basic facts:
1 in 26 people have Epilepsy, and 1 in 10 people will have a seizure in their lifetime.
Epilepsy has lowest amount of research funding per patient, at 0.82 cents. Compared to AIDS, which has 3,000 dollars per patient and STDs which 1,800 dollars, and cancer which has 800 dollars.
50,000 people die from Epilepsy every year, which is 10,000 more than breast cancer.
I’ve been going to Summer Stroll for years, it’s highly important to me especially after it was determined that my Epilepsy was drug resistant and will never be controlled.
If you have any extra money to spare, even just a couple dollars, please donate. Epilepsy is in desperate need of research, advocacy and funding. Please please Donate if you can, or Reblog if you cannot.

Alright you know what? I think Tangled the Animated Series is good and I've watched all of it, but it really seems like the more you think about it, the more issues with storytelling come up.
The thing I'm thinking about currently is Rapunzel re-growing all of her hair. Now, I could write something different about how I feel having her hair grow back and her cutting it off herself at the end feels like it cheapens Eugene cutting her hair in the movie. (Not to mention giving fuel to the people that dislike Eugene for cutting her hair seemingly just because they dislike Rapunzel's short hair.) But I digress.
Rapunzel's hair and healing powers were the reason that she was held captive by Gothel, so yes, even though she did rightfully freak out about her hair growing back, I think the series as a whole tends to gloss over how affected she would be by everything that happened to her.
Yes, it's a kids show, but there are multiple Tangled stories that Disney has put out that actually do talk about Rapunzel's trauma that are marketed towards kids. Just check out the Tangled Christmas story where Rapunzel has to learn to love Christmas because she's only ever been told lies about it meant to frighten her by Gothel.
I just wish the series showed her working through her past more instead of reducing her to being "always happy, always right, always trusting, always forgiving" she was none of those things in the movie and she didn't pretend that she was either.
So it's cool to have the hair back, but as a concept I dislike it. And if they were going to do it, they should have highlighted how deeply affected Rapunzel would be by suddenly gaining back the reason that she was stolen from her family and locked away all her life. (Also I mean if I were her my brain would jump to wondering if it also means that Gothel is back)
The series as a whole does a disservice to Rapunzel's character in my opinion. She's far more complex than the show makes her out to be and she lacks a lot of character development throughout the series. She should've been shown dismantling the views that were imposed on her by Gothel. The show perpetuating the idea that Rapunzel never giving up on anyone and always giving second chances is right, ignores the fact that she thinks that way because she was emotionally manipulated by Gothel into always forgiving her.
I could really go on about that point, because Rapunzel really needs to learn that being kind does not mean that she has to forgive everyone at the drop of a hat and she shouldn't feel guilty for that. A show that teaches people its okay to be angry and upset and take a while before you're ready to forgive the people that have hurt you I feel would be far more empowering and is a very needed message.
What we got instead was saying that we shouldn't be too upset by the people that deeply hurt us because maybe we just didn't understand them well enough and they have reasons for acting the way that they did. (Yes this is about Cass)
Justifying toxic behavior isn't a good look Disney.
Telling survivors of abuse that they're the ones that need to be more understanding and forgiving isn't a good look and is actively hurtful when pushed by media.
Those who wear eye contacts.... do you like wearing them?
I wear daily contacts and I have an astigmatism, they're Alcon brand and I haven't had very many issues with them. I've never tried any kind of other contacts so I'm not sure if that makes a difference.
So long as I can get them in an out of my eye okay, I don't really feel them when they're in and just use some safe for contacts eyedrops if I feel my eyes getting dry.
I don't know if I would say that I have a strong preference for contacts over glasses, but it's nice to not have to get prescription sunglasses.
STOP!
I really need this spread around because this is becoming a serious issue.
The following is a post concerning reblog bait, and how harmful and triggering it can be, and why it needs to be stopped.
(C/TW: Images of reblog bait)
THESE types of posts really need to stop being made or spread. I have OCD and these are a massive trigger, because I physically cannot ignore them. I thought it was just a me thing for a while but then I posted a rant on my story on Instagram and so many other people with OCD (or even without) feel the same, and on top of that they just clog peoples feeds.
And it’s not not just the ones with consequences. Even the ones with rewards trigger it, because my brain automatically fills in the consequence. It’s effectively a simulation of OCD itself. You have to do something or something bad will happen.
This is becoming a serious issue and it’s really been affecting mine and others mental health. I don’t know if this will get anywhere but I’m trying to spread the message in the hopes that people understand.
A Few More Thoughts
I am glad that a charge was brought swiftly after watching the process drag on painfully last summer. It also feels insufficient. I join community calls for the Washington County attorney to consider 3rd degree murder charges (as have been brought most recently in both the Chauvin and Noor cases). I also want to recognize that no individual charge or even conviction will bring back Daunte Wright; nor is our justice system equipped to provide the kind of healing and systemic accountability that is desperately needed.
And I am deeply concerned that once again the state and law enforcement here are already gearing up again to meet the grieving Twin Cities community with heavily militarized law enforcement (supported by literal military force), with curfew and unlawful assembly orders, with indiscriminately deployed tear gas, and with arrests of protesters. To what end? So that we can do the same thing again tomorrow night? What are they doing to make space for healing? What are they doing to make change?
It is a failure of leadership to imagine that shows of force are the only way to ensure peace; and even a cursory review of the many similar protests over the years makes it clear that the overzealous approach of law enforcement often cause demonstrations to escalate. We can do better. I will be calling on leadership at every level to take action to do so.
Be safe Twin Cities friends.
Eugene meeting Kristoff and being offended™ about him saying that all men pick their nose and eat their boogers. In the series he's a neat freak you can't change my mind.
Next villain of the Sanders Sides Little Nightmares AU, The Professor! He meanders around the classrooms with slow shuffling, shambling steps and inhaling books, beakers and viscera. He is very slow until he’s after you and then he’s fast and practically boneless in his reach. You see him from behind and a light coming from him but you don’t know he’s distorted until he hears Thomas and Red and snaps around and tries to drag them into his gullet with a relentless pull. Thomas has to hide behind something to avoid it or he’ll be sucked in.
To advance, Thomas has to have Red call out to him in specific locations of the library while not getting himself caught because Red is strong enough to wriggle free but Thomas isn’t. The goal is to get The Professor to knock down certain things to progress forward, lured by Red’s call. Once he knocks things down, Thomas can grab hold of his tie and pull, causing the light of his face to flicker and sputter out before coming back on.
The stages of the classroom are the library, the lecture hall and the laboratory (Note I wrote “laboratory” on the picture, but it’s all three locations). Once his tie is gone, he turns into the studious child Indigo and Thomas and Red invite him to their little group.
Indigo has the ability to levitate objects with light. So long as something is under a light, Indigo can manipulate it in space.
If you like it please reblog it!
