grahamhodson·:
“Love you too, Ardie.” Graham responded, giving his favorite co-worker a wink. “Are you trying to say I’m not busy saving lives? C’mon. I know it doesn’t look like I’m doing much, but I did just get out of surgery about fifteen minutes ago. It wasn’t anything life saving…but it could have been.” The nickname he had given Arden was pretty bad, but that didn’t stop him from calling her it. Besides, it was his job to annoy her. He was her ‘unofficial’ brother, after all. “Yes, please. I’m post call tomorrow, so I have all the time in the world tonight for you - plus, I totally just chugged a Redbull before I caught up to you. Saving my sleep for tomorrow.”
“Oh, man. One day I’m going to get rid of the nickname Ardie forever.” She dramatically rolled her eyes before bumping her shoulder against her friend. “I’m just saying, you didn’t crack a chest today. I could never do what you do, though.” Arden was so thankful for her friend, but she couldn’t resist teasing him each time she saw him. “Alright, we can stay up all night. Besides, I have some big news for you.” She pulled away from her friend and reached into a pocket on the inside of her coat to put on her engagement ring. “Anything look different to you?” she asked with a wide grin and holding up her left hand for him to see the ring.
silas--black·:
He smiled as she told him about how she was doing. He was glad. She deserved all the good feelings and he was happy that she and Dimitri were happy. They made sense together and complimented one another. “You guys are cute. I’m glad you’re happy. He’s very happy from what he’s told me.”
Arden always enjoyed a chance to see her friends. It seemed that these days that work took over every single day of her life, and running into her friends like this seemed to be the best way she saw them. Still, she cherished each moment she spent with them. “That--That makes me happy to hear,” she said, cheeks turning red. “Alright, what about you? How’s things going in the love department for Silas?”
drdimitripetrescu·:
“You and me both.” Dimitri agreed with a soft chuckle. He was about to get up and grab the forks himself, but stood in his place with rather wide eyes when she beat him to it. “Oh no, no, no… not that drawer, not that one!” He called out to her when she opened the wrong drawer, but it was too late. She had already found the ring. “Arden, I-” The surgeon bit down on his lip for a moment as he made his way over to her. As much as he had hoped to plan the perfect proposal for her, it seemed that fate had other plans for them. Of course, nothing about their relationship had ever been planned. Not their first kiss, not their first date, and definitely not when they had confessed their feelings to each other. So, what even was the point of planning the perfect proposal when things just seemed to fall into place as they should when it came to the two of them? “I… I guess I was waiting for the right time to ask you, but… I’ve known for a while that you’re the one I want to marry.” He admitted, smiling as his eyes glazed over with tears. “Hey, babe… it’s okay, it’s not your fault. Honestly, I shouldn’t have thought that you wouldn’t find it there, and… maybe, I should have done this sooner.” He admitted, his hands quickly wiping away her tears before he got down on his knee. “Arden Thompson, will you do me the absolute honour of being my wife?”
Arden heard him telling her not that drawer, but it seemed to go in one ear and out the other. She was already staring at the open ring box in her hand. It made sense for them. They had never planned a single aspect of their relationship. Their first date had been a spur of the moment, and it had scared Arden so bad how she felt about him. So, she shut him out for weeks. She never planned to even tell him how she felt until he had been standing in front of her in the on-call room. Everything about Dimitri scared the hell out of her. There were times she had to remind herself that she deserved to be loved that much. He made her feel like they were the only people on Earth. Her eyes kept moving from the ring and to him. Tears of pure happiness were spilling over as she finally met his gaze. “Oh, Dimitri,” she choked out. His hands wiped her tears away. His touch was always so gentle. Arden watched him get down on one knee. Her heart pounded in her chest. She barely let him finish getting his words out before blurting out, “Yes!” She grabbed his hands and pulled him to his feet. Tears were streaming down her cheeks and her hands reached out to hold either side of his face. “There is nothing in the world I want more than to marry you, Dimitri. You are my love, my entire life. I love you, so much.”
silas--black·:
He opened his mouth to protest but before he could, she’d already paid. He closed his mouth and smiled softly, nodding. “Aw, thank you.” He took the cup and began walking over to a table with Arden, his attention fully on her.
“I’ve been good! Life is great. Working my ass off, enjoying being a dog dad… a real dad… its all good. How are you? How are things outside work?”
Arden took a seat at the closest open table after paying for their coffee. Her hands wrapped around the warm cup and she held it against her chest for a moment. “It sounds like everything is keeping you busy--in good ways.” Arden offered a smile before taking a sip of her coffee. “Everything’s great. I can’t remember the last time I was this happy. I moved in with Dimitri a little while ago, and everything is just--it feels right.”

“i had lunch with your other half a few days ago. i would have preferred it was you since you’re my favorite out of the dynamic duo, but he’s alright i guess.” ela chuckled, glad to finally see arden. “what have you been up to? i feel like its been a while since i’ve last seen you.” much like dimitri, arden was another worker who showed kindness towards her.
Arden could only laugh, sipping at the paper cup of coffee. “He’s pretty alright, but I am a bit biased there.” Arden couldn’t remember the last time she had seen Ela, and she was always happy when they crossed paths. “Oh, the usual. It seems like all I do is work. What about you? What’s happening in the great world of Ela?”

“you been avoiding me or what? i swear every time i approach you, you speed walk away.” graham teased, finally catching up to arden. he had just finished his last surgery of the day and was getting ready to leave when he spotted his friend. “did you fall victim to the hospital gossip? finally decide enough was enough? i knew you hated the nickname ardie but c’mon, ardie. i didn’t think it was that bad.” he knew she hadn’t been avoiding him, just busy like most of the staff was at what seemed to be all times.
“I’m always avoiding you, but you keep coming back like a bad rash,” she teased. “And I’m not speed walking. Gotta save lives, you know.” Arden was heading out the hospital for the night, and she couldn’t wait to go home and curl up in bed. “Look, I know there’s no stopping you from calling me Ardie. They’ve been running me wild around here. The hospital gossip is pretty bad, but not as bad as that horrible nickname you have for me.” She threw her arm over her friend’s shoulders. “Wanna come over for a bit? Catch up?”
jamesselroy·:
“I can’t wait for the day where I only have to go once a year.” James smiled, his entire life for the last year had been a five month hospital stay with more than one appointment a month at the hospital. So knowing that some day he might only have to go once a year would be amazing. “I actually have my huge one year appointment coming up and if I’m remembering right, we’re supposed to talk about me dropping to four appointments a year.”
As he took a seat at the table outside across from Arden, he gave a nod of his head. “I work at a record shop- I absolutely love it and so beyond grateful that my manager and co workers are so understanding and willing to help me out.” He took a small sip of his coffee, his cheeks going a light red when asked how he knew Penny wad the one.
“I spent so much of my life without her, with us having to say goodbye and I knew that I couldn’t keep doing that for the rest of my life. Because every time I was with Penny, it felt like I’m was home. Like I was where I was meant to be.” James spoke softly, doing his best to make sure he didn’t get his words all jumbled up. “Whenever I would picture my future, Penny was always right there with me. I knew I couldn’t lose her- That’s, that’s how I knew she was the one. She’s my everything. I really hope that made sense-” James laughed, “My words still get all jumbled on me from time to time.” He paused for a moment, hands wrapped around his coffee. “Are you thinking that Dimitri might be the one?”
“It’ll be here before you know it. One day all these doctors visits and hospitals will be a thing of the past for you.” It was always such an achievement seeing her patients for the last bit of their monthly appointments. It made her feel lke she was doing her job right. “That’s great news! Get a planner or a calendar for your fridge. Those are so easy to forget when the appointments are that far apart.”
Arden had talked about how she felt about Dimitri only to Graham a handful of times, but she needed another point of view. She listened to every single word James had to say to her about Penny and how he felt about her. It only secured the feelings she had for Dimitri. She knew how she felt, and there was no denying it. Her was her person, and he was meant to be her person. “It made sense. Plenty of sense, I promise.” Arden nodded, putting her hands into her lab coat pocket. “I know he is. I just needed to hear someone that. I guess I get so scared that I don’t deserve someone like him, you know?”
mendoza-eddiee·:
‘‘because it looks alarming that my hands are covered in some blood and i have a little.. bit.. yanno on my face?’‘ no use in trying to be a smartass, and there was no use in really.. arguing with arden so he sits back on the edge of the little bed in the room– dropping his phone. ‘‘– suspect chase. i thought it’d be wise to chase ‘em on my own.’‘
“I’m going to tell you know that saying it isn’t yours does not help,” she laughed. Arden soaked a few gauze pads in saline and started wiping the blood off his face. She sat on her hospital stool with a metal tray with everything she needed beside her. “I would ask how that worked out for you, but I see now. How bad is your pain on a scale of zero to ten. Don’t try to be a tough guy either.”
drdimitripetrescu·:
When she kissed on his lips, Dimitri held onto her for a moment longer. "Oh boy, do I love you for spoiling me like this when we’re off…” He admitted, genuinely. Usually, it would be him spoiling her. But this was definitely something he could get used to. “Yes, ma’am.” He stated, cheekily before climbing out of bed and heading towards the bathroom. It took him a few minutes to brush his teeth and wash his face, trying to be rid of the slumber that still remained in his eyes. Once he felt more awake, Dimitri made his way over to the kitchen and grinned upon seeing the spread that Arden had prepared. “Oh honey, you really did this for me? Bless your heart. I love this so much.”
“I plan to do it forever,” she said as she slipped out the door. When he appeared into the kitchen, a smile broke onto her face. God, he was everything she ever could have imagined. There were plates on the counter, but Arden realized the silverware was missing. “Oh! We need forks.” Arden moved across the kitchen to open the drawer that she thought had the utensils. She was still getting used to the layout of Dimitri’s house since she moved in. The drawer she opened was the wrong one, but she spotted a tiny box. A box that anyone would recognize as holding a specific piece of jewelry. Arden took it into her hands. Her heart was pounding, and she was certain she knew what it was. She needed to just put it back and pretend she didn’t see it. She couldn’t do that, though. She popped open the box, unable to stop herself, and a gasp slipped past her lips. “Dimitri--” she said, turning towards him with the open box in her hand. “What’s--Do you want to tell me what this is?” There were tears in her eyes, already knowing her response. “Because I think I know what it is. I didn’t know it was in there. I swear.”
sawyerwoods·:
“Kids, huh?” Sawyer looked over at Arden, a small smile on his face. Him and Ivy had planned for a family much like his friends were, but unfortunately it didn’t work out for them. It still hurt him to this day to think about it. However, that didn’t mean he wasn’t happy for the couple. He wished them nothing but the best. Dimitri was one of his best friends, after all. “I can see where you’re coming from. But I guess everything happens for a reason, and all that shit everyone always says. You know, where they say if it’s meant to be it’ll be and don’t force love and blah blah blah blah.” Did he have his eye on someone? Not…really. Especially now with Ivy back in the picture, and Rhy. His love life was really throwing him through a loop. “No, not really. I don’t have any luck in that department…just seems to end in heartbreak for me. I think just going through the motions? I don’t know. I never truly knew what I wanted to do. As a kid, I didn’t really have time to think about that…the only thing I cared about was making sure my sister was okay.”
“Yeah. Crazy, right? Me, being a parent.” Arden’s parents had been subpar at best. They provided for her, of course, but they were never there. Arden had convinced herself that she wasn’t capable of being a parent because she never knew what a real parent was. However, Dimitri had made her realise all of what she was capable of. “As much as I hate to admit it, you’re right. The waiting part sucks. I was alone for years, and I was convinced that’s how it would be. I moved here to start over--and that’s what I got.” She shrugged. Arden didn’t know much about Sawyer’s love life. “Do you think what happened in the past is holding you back?” she asked, raising a brow at him. “Remind me what you do now again? It’s slipping my mind.”

drdimitripetrescu·:
Dimitri could not help but chuckle rather tiredly as she tried to wake him up with kisses. “Someone’s in a mood this morning…” He noted, finally rubbing at his eyes to be rid of his slumber before he climbed out of bed. “You made me brunch? Well, that’s a first.” Perhaps in her defense, Dimitri had always been the one to do the cooking. But this was nice. “I’m sure you are, love. Let me get a little freshened up, will you? And then we can start our day off with brunch.”
Arden kept peppering kisses on his neck for a few more moments before hearing him speak. “Always am when I get to wake up to you,” she hummed before planting a kiss on his lips. “I did. We usually don’t have time for this so thought I’d take advantage of it.” Her hands rested on his chest, smiling down at him. “Alright, alright. Meet me in the kitchen, yeah?” Reluctantly, she stood up from the bed and headed back towards the kitchen. She poured him a cup of coffee and waited for him. “I figured I could use our day off as an excuse to spoil you. You had a long day yesterday. You deserve it,” she said when he came into the kitchen. “Here’s your coffee and,” she did a dramatic gesture towards the food, “your breakfast.”
drdimitripetrescu·:
As Dimitri had gotten home from work later than usual the night before, he wasn’t the first one out of bed that morning. Being the heavy sleeper that he was, he hadn’t actually noticed Arden sneak out of bed to cook up a storm in the kitchen. When she returned, he was still fast asleep, but had managed to stir in his sleep upon feeling her kisses. “Hm… Babe, I’m tired.” He stated rather groggily, rolling over so tha he was facing her. “What time is it?”
It was only when she mentioned a surprise did he open his eyes, looking over at Arden with a rather tired smile. “Oh ris that so?”
Dimitri had always been a much heavier sleepier than her. “I’ve got a few methods to wake you up,” she teased. She pressed a few kisses to his neck before meeting his gaze. Arden’s cheeks turned red at his tired smile and sleepy voice. “It is. Breakfast, fresh coffee,” she went on, sitting so that she she had one leg on either side of his waist. “It’s nearly 10 so I guess it’s brunch, but we have the entire day.” She moved her hair over to one shoulder. “What do you say? I’m a damn good chook, you know.”
jamesselroy·:
“My life is a series of recent appointments at this point in my life.” James laughed softly as he gave a light shrug of his shoulders. It felt like he was at the hospital every week for some type of appointment to get something checked out or looked at. “I had one a few days ago- I think.” Scrunching his face up some as he tried his best to recall if there had been one or not, though he was sure of it. At Arden’s question, James have a nod of his head. “Yeah, we can sit. I have nowhere else to be. I have today off.” He grinned, beyond thankful that despite everything, he had a boss that was understanding, and that he was able to hold down a job working somewhere that he loved. “An odd question? Fee free to ask away.” James grinned, hands wrapped around his coffee as he nodded towards an empty table out on the patio, heading out towards it with her.
“One day that won’t be true. One day they’ll just be every year.” Arden had seen her patients go from monthly checkups to checkups as needed and almost never seeing them. It was always sad to see a patient go, but it meant they enough progress that they didn’t need her anymore. “Remind me where you work at again.” Arden was nearly positive he worked at a record shop, but she couldn’t exactly remember. She always asked just to be sure. “I guess it isn’t that odd,” she said, sitting down across from him. “How did you know Penny was the one?”

Arden had woken up before Dimitri that morning and carefully snuck out of the bed to make him breakfast without waking him. Luca came with her and she took him for his morning walk. They didn’t always have time for things like this so Arden always took advantage of these quiet mornings. She started a pot of coffee and starting tossing together ingredients for breakfast. An hour later a spread of pancakes and bacon and fresh coffee was laid out for them.
She went back to their bedroom, crawling on top of Dimitri. “Wake up,” she whispered in his ear before kissing his cheeks and then his forehead. “I have a surprise for you in the kitchen.”
