Here we go: the 1st of the Game of Thrones pieces I'm working on. For this series, I want to depict the characters with the realms they're fighting for or fighting in. So the 1st of this series depicts Jon Snow, The King in the North, facing his biggest problem yet: winter is here. I can't wait to see how he deals with it in the new season, and I can't wait to see which of the many theories will be confirmed. I believe in the power of Jon Snow's man bun. That is all.
Painting a new Jon Snow and hopefully other Game of Thrones characters. Who's excited for July 16? ✋🏼
So this happened last week. I rarely take and post photos of myself or the talents I work with for my day job, but this merits an exemption. Guys, please congratulate me for surviving to tell the tale. Seriously. 😂 So okay. I was hesitant to give this watercolor exercise as it still had bits of sticky tack on it - remnants from when I pinned it on my work space's wall for a Cosmopolitan PH feature. The tack wouldn't budge so I guess it's a lesson learned the hard way. Ha! But it's not everyday that you get to meet and work with your subject, right? So I still presented it to him. I'll be creating and giving a new one anyway just to redeem myself. 😅 Thanks again, Atom! ☺️
Archie comics is a part of my childhood: I grew up reading and collecting the issues, eventually copying the characters and using them as reference for drawings for school projects. I guess you could say the comics "taught" me how to draw human figures. So when I did these Riverdale portraits, I thought of mixing line art with watercolor as a nod to the comic. Hehe. Gearing up to draw the ladies as well. Stay tuned. 😄
Made it to the #HandmadeWatercolorWeekend five minutes before it closed yesterday. Whew. Haha! 😅 So of course this morning's agenda was to organize and to test my loot. The first test done using Life After Breakfast PH's colors: Pacific Blue (face), Ultramarine (fur), and Vine Black on a Strathmore 400 Series Watercolor Journal and with an Escoda Optimo No. 12. Love the granulation! The subject is Filipino supermodel, Juan Paolo Roldan. 👨🏻

My first male face in watercolor for 2017. Missed doing facial hair!
Exercise No. 1 yesterday

3am musings
Spent part of today's lunch sketching my favorite Wes Anderson pairing on an Arches sketchpad. I've shelved this idea last year, but hopefully I'll be able to finally do it this time. Fingers crossed. 😅
Kicked off the weekend with my first watercolor portrait exercise for the year. Them gears must be oiled. Hahaha. 😅 I tested this Arches Grain Torchon watercolor block which I got from fellow watercolorist Irene Li (thanks again! 💖). I typically paint on hot pressed and cold pressed paper so I still have to get used to its rough texture. I noticed I had to load my brushes with more water than what I normally use; the paper sucks up the paint and water faster. 💦
1st drawing for 2017 😊 Because 2016 was a pretty exhausting year (in terms of its lows), and the new year presents us with the opportunity to turn over a new leaf. Let's. 🍃
Today's quick exercise. The reference photo had glitter on top of the eyeshadow, but I decided to skip it. ✨✨✨
