"Would you like to join the culture? "
I think this year has been a lot; as residents, we work crazy hours and are are often scared to speak up do to the risk damaging one of many inflated egos can have on our careers, especially in academia. Hospitals literally would not function without residents, yet we are treated poorly and expected to constantly suck it up while being grateful to work 80 hours a week with no safe way to voice criticism. And when criticism is voiced, for the most part, we are gaslit until patients suffer from the consequences of admin. There is a lot culturally that is wrong. My program is more malignant than most and is designed in a way that makes it super difficult to unionize or have any meaningful change made, but it is a problem across the US medical residencies.
