Personality wise, he’s a mix of various comic runs. I’m currently reading through both the og Excalibur and X-men classic so think something along those lines. Still might be a little ooc but again, this is for purely fun so don’t be too hard on me.

Kurt is currently kicking around the institute as a teacher while still keeping up with regular hero duties. He teaches German as a primary subject along with extracurricular fencing and theater. Raging pirate fixation, sword enthusiast and known flirt, he lives for thrill and fun!

I like to imagine that Kurt uses voice to text because typing with 3 fingers is pretty hard so if little things like ‘uh’ or ‘hmm’ show up in posts/replies that’s why. Idk, I just think it’s fitting with the panels I’ve seen about him whining about technology not being made for people like him lol

Hello everyone, a little out of character post to announce that I am helping out with an x-men rp server run by @calypso-boudreaux! If you enjoy my versions of Nightcrawler or Wolverine, you will be able to interact with them more frequently over there!

(Don’t fret posts will still be made here!)

What can you expect out of the server?

The server runs off of its own x-men timeline along with taking inspiration from real events

There’s a lot of fun characters to be played including characters outside of the x-men fandom along with being oc inclusive (they’re welcomed if anything!)

Possible events with rewards? Could be fun!

And obviously, a lot of cool people to meet and become friends with!

What are the limitations for who can join?

To join you must be 16+, we will ask for age upon joining to make sure of this

You cannot use AI under any circumstance

Missions have led him through just about every back alley you could imagine–from arms deals to covert ops to your run of the mill sleazy bar informant. Kurt walked just about every path for the sake of a mission. Or so he thought until his recent tip off led him to a pristine high rise building in the middle of the city. This partnered with the slim information of who he was meeting made him uneasy, glancing behind as he boarded into the elevator.

Through the clear walls could see the blurred streaks passed below, lights speeding off towards their destinations. There was little Kurt could do but watch as the skyline shifted, buildings stretching out towards the stars sprawled above with each floor the clear box climbed.

Artemisia. That was the name of who he was to meet. An obscure woman with no presence outside her work. A genius hacker who has worked on countless cases only to drop off the face of the planet the moment work was through. He didn’t know what to expect upon meeting her when the floor stopped moving, the doors chiming open to reveal yet another stretch of identical hall with a single door at the end.

His steps passed by silently as he made his way towards the door, tail stilled in the uneven air, a draft sending the fur and hair on his neck standing on end. Swallowing back the weight of anxiety that settled into his chest, he pushed the door open, revealing the familiar led lights of computer screens. Hidden behind the display was only who he could assume he was supposed to meet with.

“I take it you’re Artemisia?” He called out, lingering by the door far longer than was polite before he moved in closer, peering over the stack of monitors to see the woman he would be working with.

Artemisia looked up from the screens, slowly.

She slipped off her glasses and cleaned them with a cloth resting on the desk, cluttered with all manner of objects, then studied the man who, for some reason...was still lingering by the door.

She popped the pink bubble of the strawberry gum she’d been chewing and rose to her feet with a small groan.

Looking at her, no one would have guessed she was such a capable hacker.

She wore a gray T-shirt with a red cat’s face on it, black leggings, and a miniskirt.

“Yes, that’s me,” she said, sliding her glasses back on and taking a closer look at him.

“Kurt Wagner, huh?” she added, with a clear-though not overly heavy-Italian accent. She pronounced his name more like “Koort.”

There was something off about looking at her, something… uncanny. Her outline seemed wrong.

Watching her move felt like looking at a slightly blurred photograph.

“Nice to meet you,” she said, a little awkwardly, stepping closer to shake his hand...an attempt that proved almost impossible.

“Sorry about that. It’s my thing. Don’t worry about it. Would you like to sit down?”

When Artemisia stepped into view, Kurt’s initial thought was that she seemed underdressed for such a meeting, the loose fitting clothes relaxed compared to his uniform. But, if she was who he was supposed to be meeting with, he would shelve his judgement of her attire to focus on the task at hand.

She greeted him formally, her accent being the second detail he picked up. She held a soft Italian accent, one that caused his interest to perk up even further. It was pleasant. A sound he would be happy to hear during their time together.

He gave her a playful flourish when she said his name, leaning forward in a bow, “That’s right, Kurt Wagner at your service!”

As Artemisia got closer, Kurt questioned if his eyes were playing tricks on him. Though she was only a foot away from him, she seemed… smudged for a lack of a better term. Her appearance was vaguely distorted and hazy like an underdeveloped polaroid.

Chalking it up to the lighting, he reached out to shake her hand when she reached out, watching as her hand narrowly missed his, brushing against his arm instead. His mild confusion was waved off with an adequate explanation.

His lip curled in amusement, making light of the situation to ease the awkwardness she held, “At least your powers don’t reek of sulfur as some of my teammates would describe it.”

His tail hooked around the back of one of the chairs, steadying it as he took a seat ready to get down into business. Kurt pulled something from his pocket, holding it out for her to take, “This contains what I need to be decoded, we believe they might hold the key to shutting down sentinels for good.”

Cast in shadow, Kurt perched upon the banister, his tail sweeping in calm strides behind him. He watched intently as the young girl clung to her father's leg, feebly attempting to pull him back through the threshold of the door. Her sharp pleas echoed through the entrance of the mansion, accompanied by gentle shushing as Gambit knelt down to sooth her.

Gambits words were too low for Kurt to make out but watching Zoë eagerly nod along with a newly formed grin told him all it needed to. In fact, he sprouted his own devilish, slinking down the railing in silent prowl as he narrowed the gap. Poised to strike, he laid in wait as the ritual of goodbyes were shared, Zoë flinging herself into her fathers arms one last time before he was off to the call of his wife.

Kurt took the opportunity, springing forward to scoop his niece into a tight hug before she had a chance to see him coming.

Leaving the mansion was hard enough, but a six-year-old made it worse. Zoë whined, her cries carrying through the halls like those of mournful wallows. She fiddled with her oversized shirt, one of her dad's. She’s insisted she wore it, but underneath was a cutesy tank top. Her lower lip spilled out as her dad’s hushed voice promised her fun in his absence. Well, whatever passed the time. So, as the couple herded out the door for a much-needed getaway, Zoë shrank into herself, snuggling into the shirt's fading spice. 

Before she had time to move, she was caught in the most powerful grip of all. Kurt’s! A cacophony of squeals disrupted the settling silence, reminding the mansion of its liveliness. A well-lived-in home with joy and love. Zoë nuzzled his cheek, shaking her head to dismiss the tingle of the peach fuzz. 

“‘S jus’ us, Kurt Kurt! I can make you look pretty like a princess. Princess Kurt!” She giggled.

Zoë’s shrill squeals of laughter against his ear caused him to shrink back, wincing as the tone rose to a sharp ringing in his ear. His lip curls in response, nose wrinkling as he fights away the tinnitus she caused. By the time it ceased, she had already pressed her face against his, rubbing her cheek over the soft layer of fuzz. He missed this.

Zoë’s animated babbling was a nice change of pace from his day to day, welcoming the hyperactivity despite the waning sunlight. Kurt allowed her to hang lazily from one arm, her body curled against his chest, “A princess you say?”

It was a favorite idea of Zoë’s to bring up, one he must have inadvertently fed her with every fairytale he spun to put her to sleep. Though, he didn’t know where the lines in the stories got crossed in her mind—he was always the dashing hero saving princess, not the damsel in distress. The correction wasn’t needed though, Kurt understanding it was less hassle to indulge the girl's creativity rather than argue with her over why he wasn’t a princess.

Shifting her in his arms, Kurt began his trek back upstairs and to her room, “If Prinzessinnen is what you wish for us to play, then who am I to argue?”

Open RP! Hydra Sienna

The halls were dim. The person was lead down, two larger agents on their side as they were slammed through the double doors.

It was cold, ice cold. Siberia wasn't a great place during winter. The base was cold and mean, you can feel the energy from everyone inside. Cold stares, an eerie crudeness to them even.

The lull sound of heels echo down the hall. One of the doors opened up, revealing the tall woman. Her curls swayed around, a bit of a dull shine to them. Bright red eyes glaring ahead, the Siren walked in as she waves the agents out. Leaving her alone with the person.

She hums a bit, the peaceful sound of a lullaby hits the person hard. Making them sway back into the chair. She began to strap them in, locking them down.

Her painted hands shoved their head back. Slamming their head into the metal backing. She got inches away from their face. "Now then...." She eyes them over as she pulls back. She kept her humming up, making sure the person in the chair stayed underneath her hypnotic melody.

Fear. Poisonous fear. The type of unsettling feeling that demanded the upheaval of all stomach contents. If the victim survived the first wave of horror, the next would be hell. Deeper than hell. Biting air forced those feelings to be put on the back burner. The nip of small, sharp teeth ripped skin away from the very muscle keeping it attached. Nerves unraveled, too overwhelmed to keep sending out the signals. Nothing could survive this place, not even the innocent person being marched down these suffocating halls. 

White walls flanked each side; a reminder that there is nothing to live for outside the regime. Each terrified breath plumed into the air, evaporating the second it hit the subzero air. Zoë never thought she would find herself in the Serbian winter, flanked by emotionless guards. There was no negotiating or pleading. Soldiers didn’t brutally kidnap people if Command didn’t order the seizure. Blood dripped down her cheek from where she had been slammed into the plane. It dripped onto the flawless white floor, staining it. 

A door clicked open, giving way to a plain room. Something so dull turned dangerous. Fighting back was a hopeless option. It had been from the beginning. Thought, she wondered if being shot dead was better than surviving. In front of her, a metal chair with straps taunted her. The place where her humanity would melt away into a lifeless toy. A toy for people who inflicted the greatest pain on people who got by on scraps in desperate attempts at survival. One of the soldiers nudged Zoë with the butt of its gun. She hesitated, her body wavering. To relinquish would mean complete submission to the enemy, but to hesitate would mean death. Her eyes raced back and forth until a blow to her back caught her off balance.

Zoë crashed into the metal chair, whining as cold metal met her face. It cut into her warm flesh like a hot knife to butter. Meat tore away from bone, leaving the top of her nose exposed. She hissed, writhing to sit upright. Another click, and the soldiers who had battered around had fled. She breathed a sigh before biting her lip at the appearance of the woman. Warm, copper blood leaked onto her chapped lips. Well, she was expecting warm. It was cold when it arrived. 

Just when Zoë thought the worst was over, a hypnotic lullaby wormed its way into her head. She used her waning willpower to fight it, but it wasn't enough to keep her battered body from moving. Her eyes glazed over, giving no acknowledgement to the restraints being tightened around her. A strained whine came from her as her head slammed into frozen metal, but no further complaints came.

Sienna tilted her head at the child. The two have never crossed paths. Her eyes shook softly as she kept up her act, Strucker had a fascination with enhanced humans, mutants.

This child fit perfectly into his category of needing to know more.

The Siren walked over as she sat. Keeping them in the hazy state, keeping them in the comfort state. Easy to manipulate if needed, it had to feel like this.

"Let the rain run down. Let the sun be gone. Let you remember this will be your home now." She sang out cruely. Like a stepping stone to welcome Zoë into the chaos.

There was no use in fighting. It took too much energy the Siberian winter wouldn’t allow. It swallowed every piece of body heat produced by living. The devil's smile dancing in the howling wind. It was enough to have anyone bowing down. And if they didn’t, then the devil’s demon in front of Zoë would do it for him. Words flowed in and out, weaving their way through the control centers of the brain, disabling electrical signals. Every command wasn’t a moral decision, but rather life or death. Sacrificial. She couldn’t clue it together herself, but she was the sacrificial lamb. Why not use an omega-level mutant to see how powerful a biological weapon they were? A child would be easier to use and more potent. More agile. More likely to cause moral dilemma in enemies.

Zoë hummed the siren’s song, having no willpower to stop. Was this life? To forever be taken advantage of by people who thought one was useful, only to be discarded like trash when new opportunities arose. Maybe so. But this Spitfire was new. Shiny. Fresh blood with raw, unrelenting power.

Sienna tilts her head as she smiles. Curls swaying as she thinks, her boot taps on the floor as she allowed the voice to settle.

Strucker slowly came into the sterile room. His eyes gleamed as he watched the magic touch work on Zoë.

"This is what we need. This child will be a perfect mole inside the mansion..." He walks behind the child as he tilts her head side to side. "And it worked...."

Siren moves her head as she grew quiet. Watching as he didn't touch the child more after. He walked over to her, rubbing her head as he smiles. "Fantastic job my dear...."

Agents came in, gathering a hypnotized Zoë. Pulling them along as they dragged the teen to a holding cell. Labs and tests had to start right away.

The voice settled, the words laying on the soft pink cushion that was Zoë’s brain. Her eyes had glossed over, and she blinked slowly like a cat. So this is where life had led LeBeau. To be a pawn in someone else's game. The entirety of the X-Men probably went on reconns searching for her, but Hydra has taken the tracking device off of her first thing. After that, the signal went dark, meaning Zoë became MIA. But she didn’t particularly care, only waiting for cues specific cues.

She let her head be tilted, her red eye trailing Strucker’s face. Something is her eyes read as disdain, but otherwise, her expression was blank. The soldiers didn’t surprise her, the well padded men dragging her out like a sedated animal. Back down those blank, cold halls with her blood staining the floor. Blood still trailed down her face, but it had slowed. 

The holding cell proved to be nothing more than a steel bench bottled into concrete floors. Old blood splattered the walls, a sure evidence of brutality. She stared at her hands. The well painted nails chipped significantly. Her skin had paled in these harsh conditions. A part of Zoë didn’t want to follow these men and their orders, but the rest of her had been partly conditioned by the Siren.

Sienna eventually was settled into the cell. Her eyes shimmer like rubies in the dark. She was watching as the child was laid down.

The guards locked them together, keeping them locked in. Perfect, this would help the conditioning process.

"Stay on your best behavior... You won't be hurt as much..." She whispers. Her eyes shut slowly as she leans into the cold wall. Resting for a moment.

Those words. Those ghostly whispers of a pain free experience send fear descending down Zoë’s spine like an avalanche. They were lies wrapped in a neat bow. An intensive. But not enough for the amygdala to hibernate. Being tied to this witch spooked her enough, but she had stayed still, allowing her eyes to gloss like a corpse. This was different. A mistake on Sienna’s part. Had she said nothing, this might have gone differently.

Her breathing heightened, the water droplets evaporating as they rolled off the tongue. Silence allowed the hum of equipment to buzz incessantly before being interrupted by shrill squeaks.

“Daddy! Momma!” Zoë mewled like a kitten whining for its mother. A mother that didn’t know where its kitten was.

She squirmed, her weakened form struggling against Sienna’s. White hair fell into her face, rendering her nearly blind. She couldn’t push it, and it felt as if the Siberian winter was suffocating her all over again.

“Momma..” She whispered, her jaw quivering softly.

Sienna just watched. Her eyes shook as she took a deep breath. Hating how the child stared at her.

She was calm again. As she hums a lullaby. Trying to lure her to sleep. Trying to keep her knocked out. She was processing this. Trying to stay in her head. "Just sleep."

Just sleep. It was a simple command, but one that slipped through the cracks. Sienna had been praised earlier, but now it was crumbling faster than any empire. Fear was stronger than commands. Than words. A spooked horse didn’t calm when its master sung out a string of jumbled speech patterns.

Zoë’s pupils were blow wide, and she stared at the Siren with a disdain she showed Strucker earlier. The song didn’t drown the buzzing in her skull. It didn’t drown the longing for her mom and dad. Each jerk of her muscles pulled the locks apart, especially with the help of her powers. While not visible, it did enhance her capabilities. Or maybe, it was adrenaline, because Zoë was in a collar. Either way, Sienna lost her catch.

“No!” She roared out, biting Sienna in the face. Mutants always found a way through the impossible.

Sienna stomps her foot into her face. Pushing her off. "Guards!" She roared out.

Multiple swarmed in, yanking Zoë off the Siren. A few began to hold her close, stabbing a drug to her neck.

Sienna glares as she had a bleeding nose. Her eyes glaring as she had a sour frown. "She's gonna be a liability... Better off dead..."

She stood up as she didn't care about the bleeding. Her boots thud as she looks out to the hallway. Strucker storming over as he noticed her injury, a shake of his head as he waves her off. He'll handle her later.

Her steps echoed out as she leaves. But, the Soldier, that wouldn't be good for Zoë.

Wisps of white turned a damning red as Zoë took rushed breaths. The broken nose didn't do her any virtues. The swell of her eye didn't stop the raging wrath bubbling within her bones. Mind over matter. And the matter was, she couldn't give in to these Nazi freaks easily.

Sounds of choking, a bubbling of mucus and bile, filled the room. A thief was always prepared, and in the case of having all her personal belongings being seized, there was one thing they couldn't reach. A metal lock pick plopped into her hands, covered in a slime. It worked all the same. Her breathing picked up, the time between now and when those guards would appear being sparse. The lock clicked, the metal collar clattering to the ground. And as fate would have it, some disgruntled Nazis appeared.

Zoë, the hatred of a thousand souls burning in her eyes, and today, it might push over a thousand. She constructed a staff out of kinetic energy, the glittering magenta slamming into the faces of these so-called soldiers. Their heads knocked into the wall, and the volatile energy ripped through their stomachs. Blood splattered the cell, staining the walls with dazzling patters. Organs spilled out of the cavities, mushing to the ground with a big plop. She looked away, trying not to think of the reality. Bits of skin and guts speckled her boot.

Sucking in a breath, Zoë moved out of the cell. It was time to navigate the labyrinth. Face the cold of the Siberian winter.

Sienna didn't think much as the alarms went off. She eyes the Soldier as it sat there with her. Both kept away for now, it was better to losr agents then them.

The cries filled the halls as it echoed out. Blood painted each wall as agent after agent was sent after the teen.

Eventually they gave Sienna the go ahead. Others emptied out as she focused for a second. She'll hate it for a moment. But the halls began to flood with water. The waves of gallons of waters swept the hallways. She focused for a second as she began to push the teen out the base.

She'll be swept out soaking wet into the brittle cold.

Horrid breathing filled the corridors. A harsh hacking echoed throughout the barracks due to the teen’s broken nose. A faint magenta glow plastered the walls, the sounds of pulsing energy wafting through the concrete halls. Zoë looked around, swooping into a room, looking for her item. Her combadge would be helpful.

But before she could grab anything to contact the others —The X-Men, her family— rushing water sweep her away. She flailed desperately, her gear just out of reach. Her head bobbed under and above water, each gasping breath being snuffed by water.

The snow. The snow was pain. Each sputtering breath resolved in pain. Her wounds started to bleed again, and her nose was completely crooked. Adrenaline wore off, and whatever drug they snagged her with kicked in. Her head hurt, the Serbian winter fuzzing. Snow flaked covered her soaking wet hair and clothes. Zoë shivered, her core body temperature dropping.

There was no hope. She could only prey the X-Men could find her. Maybe mom or dad could reach her before she was a Zoë popsicle.

A warm hand latched onto her from above, the figure distorted by the heavy swirling of waves as they continued their assault on the battered teen. Zoë’s body was hauled from the cold, scooped into the heat of soft fur poking into her cheeks. A jacket, still warmed by the body of the person it was taken from.

Faintly under the roar of the ocean filling the corridor, whispers of a familiar language were uttered, hands dabbing their way over each visible wound.

The world had fuzzed to the point where any figure became a perceived enemy. Death had finally arrived, and boy was she late. Sulfur float around the chilled air, freezing into nothing. The drug pulsed through her, turning this rescue into a dream.

Her head lulled into the chest of the person, her broken nose making her sound like a pug. Blood dripped from her nose, while other wounds soiled the ice clothes.

Droplets of ruby fell onto his bare arms, his nieces wheezing stirring something deep within his gut. She was the same stark white as the snow that cradled her legs, clumps fighting to cling on even as she was hoisted into the air. Kurt shivered as the wind pierced under his fur, staggering over one mound and into another. He’d attempted to make conversation but with the was Zoë was looking, it would just end up as vital energy wasted.

He didn’t know what had occurred here, her bloodied and soaked clothing painting a picture yet to be told. She would open about it at a later time but now, she needed the heat of the jet to thaw her fleeting life. His tail swept through the top dusting of powder, turning backwards towards the facility where she was found. Who would do such a thing to a child?

Open RP! Hydra Sienna

The halls were dim. The person was lead down, two larger agents on their side as they were slammed through the double doors.

It was cold, ice cold. Siberia wasn't a great place during winter. The base was cold and mean, you can feel the energy from everyone inside. Cold stares, an eerie crudeness to them even.

The lull sound of heels echo down the hall. One of the doors opened up, revealing the tall woman. Her curls swayed around, a bit of a dull shine to them. Bright red eyes glaring ahead, the Siren walked in as she waves the agents out. Leaving her alone with the person.

She hums a bit, the peaceful sound of a lullaby hits the person hard. Making them sway back into the chair. She began to strap them in, locking them down.

Her painted hands shoved their head back. Slamming their head into the metal backing. She got inches away from their face. "Now then...." She eyes them over as she pulls back. She kept her humming up, making sure the person in the chair stayed underneath her hypnotic melody.

Fear. Poisonous fear. The type of unsettling feeling that demanded the upheaval of all stomach contents. If the victim survived the first wave of horror, the next would be hell. Deeper than hell. Biting air forced those feelings to be put on the back burner. The nip of small, sharp teeth ripped skin away from the very muscle keeping it attached. Nerves unraveled, too overwhelmed to keep sending out the signals. Nothing could survive this place, not even the innocent person being marched down these suffocating halls. 

White walls flanked each side; a reminder that there is nothing to live for outside the regime. Each terrified breath plumed into the air, evaporating the second it hit the subzero air. Zoë never thought she would find herself in the Serbian winter, flanked by emotionless guards. There was no negotiating or pleading. Soldiers didn’t brutally kidnap people if Command didn’t order the seizure. Blood dripped down her cheek from where she had been slammed into the plane. It dripped onto the flawless white floor, staining it. 

A door clicked open, giving way to a plain room. Something so dull turned dangerous. Fighting back was a hopeless option. It had been from the beginning. Thought, she wondered if being shot dead was better than surviving. In front of her, a metal chair with straps taunted her. The place where her humanity would melt away into a lifeless toy. A toy for people who inflicted the greatest pain on people who got by on scraps in desperate attempts at survival. One of the soldiers nudged Zoë with the butt of its gun. She hesitated, her body wavering. To relinquish would mean complete submission to the enemy, but to hesitate would mean death. Her eyes raced back and forth until a blow to her back caught her off balance.

Zoë crashed into the metal chair, whining as cold metal met her face. It cut into her warm flesh like a hot knife to butter. Meat tore away from bone, leaving the top of her nose exposed. She hissed, writhing to sit upright. Another click, and the soldiers who had battered around had fled. She breathed a sigh before biting her lip at the appearance of the woman. Warm, copper blood leaked onto her chapped lips. Well, she was expecting warm. It was cold when it arrived. 

Just when Zoë thought the worst was over, a hypnotic lullaby wormed its way into her head. She used her waning willpower to fight it, but it wasn't enough to keep her battered body from moving. Her eyes glazed over, giving no acknowledgement to the restraints being tightened around her. A strained whine came from her as her head slammed into frozen metal, but no further complaints came.

Sienna tilted her head at the child. The two have never crossed paths. Her eyes shook softly as she kept up her act, Strucker had a fascination with enhanced humans, mutants.

This child fit perfectly into his category of needing to know more.

The Siren walked over as she sat. Keeping them in the hazy state, keeping them in the comfort state. Easy to manipulate if needed, it had to feel like this.

"Let the rain run down. Let the sun be gone. Let you remember this will be your home now." She sang out cruely. Like a stepping stone to welcome Zoë into the chaos.

There was no use in fighting. It took too much energy the Siberian winter wouldn’t allow. It swallowed every piece of body heat produced by living. The devil's smile dancing in the howling wind. It was enough to have anyone bowing down. And if they didn’t, then the devil’s demon in front of Zoë would do it for him. Words flowed in and out, weaving their way through the control centers of the brain, disabling electrical signals. Every command wasn’t a moral decision, but rather life or death. Sacrificial. She couldn’t clue it together herself, but she was the sacrificial lamb. Why not use an omega-level mutant to see how powerful a biological weapon they were? A child would be easier to use and more potent. More agile. More likely to cause moral dilemma in enemies.

Zoë hummed the siren’s song, having no willpower to stop. Was this life? To forever be taken advantage of by people who thought one was useful, only to be discarded like trash when new opportunities arose. Maybe so. But this Spitfire was new. Shiny. Fresh blood with raw, unrelenting power.

Sienna tilts her head as she smiles. Curls swaying as she thinks, her boot taps on the floor as she allowed the voice to settle.

Strucker slowly came into the sterile room. His eyes gleamed as he watched the magic touch work on Zoë.

"This is what we need. This child will be a perfect mole inside the mansion..." He walks behind the child as he tilts her head side to side. "And it worked...."

Siren moves her head as she grew quiet. Watching as he didn't touch the child more after. He walked over to her, rubbing her head as he smiles. "Fantastic job my dear...."

Agents came in, gathering a hypnotized Zoë. Pulling them along as they dragged the teen to a holding cell. Labs and tests had to start right away.

The voice settled, the words laying on the soft pink cushion that was Zoë’s brain. Her eyes had glossed over, and she blinked slowly like a cat. So this is where life had led LeBeau. To be a pawn in someone else's game. The entirety of the X-Men probably went on reconns searching for her, but Hydra has taken the tracking device off of her first thing. After that, the signal went dark, meaning Zoë became MIA. But she didn’t particularly care, only waiting for cues specific cues.

She let her head be tilted, her red eye trailing Strucker’s face. Something is her eyes read as disdain, but otherwise, her expression was blank. The soldiers didn’t surprise her, the well padded men dragging her out like a sedated animal. Back down those blank, cold halls with her blood staining the floor. Blood still trailed down her face, but it had slowed. 

The holding cell proved to be nothing more than a steel bench bottled into concrete floors. Old blood splattered the walls, a sure evidence of brutality. She stared at her hands. The well painted nails chipped significantly. Her skin had paled in these harsh conditions. A part of Zoë didn’t want to follow these men and their orders, but the rest of her had been partly conditioned by the Siren.

Sienna eventually was settled into the cell. Her eyes shimmer like rubies in the dark. She was watching as the child was laid down.

The guards locked them together, keeping them locked in. Perfect, this would help the conditioning process.

"Stay on your best behavior... You won't be hurt as much..." She whispers. Her eyes shut slowly as she leans into the cold wall. Resting for a moment.

Those words. Those ghostly whispers of a pain free experience send fear descending down Zoë’s spine like an avalanche. They were lies wrapped in a neat bow. An intensive. But not enough for the amygdala to hibernate. Being tied to this witch spooked her enough, but she had stayed still, allowing her eyes to gloss like a corpse. This was different. A mistake on Sienna’s part. Had she said nothing, this might have gone differently.

Her breathing heightened, the water droplets evaporating as they rolled off the tongue. Silence allowed the hum of equipment to buzz incessantly before being interrupted by shrill squeaks.

“Daddy! Momma!” Zoë mewled like a kitten whining for its mother. A mother that didn’t know where its kitten was.

She squirmed, her weakened form struggling against Sienna’s. White hair fell into her face, rendering her nearly blind. She couldn’t push it, and it felt as if the Siberian winter was suffocating her all over again.

“Momma..” She whispered, her jaw quivering softly.

Sienna just watched. Her eyes shook as she took a deep breath. Hating how the child stared at her.

She was calm again. As she hums a lullaby. Trying to lure her to sleep. Trying to keep her knocked out. She was processing this. Trying to stay in her head. "Just sleep."

Just sleep. It was a simple command, but one that slipped through the cracks. Sienna had been praised earlier, but now it was crumbling faster than any empire. Fear was stronger than commands. Than words. A spooked horse didn’t calm when its master sung out a string of jumbled speech patterns.

Zoë’s pupils were blow wide, and she stared at the Siren with a disdain she showed Strucker earlier. The song didn’t drown the buzzing in her skull. It didn’t drown the longing for her mom and dad. Each jerk of her muscles pulled the locks apart, especially with the help of her powers. While not visible, it did enhance her capabilities. Or maybe, it was adrenaline, because Zoë was in a collar. Either way, Sienna lost her catch.

“No!” She roared out, biting Sienna in the face. Mutants always found a way through the impossible.

Sienna stomps her foot into her face. Pushing her off. "Guards!" She roared out.

Multiple swarmed in, yanking Zoë off the Siren. A few began to hold her close, stabbing a drug to her neck.

Sienna glares as she had a bleeding nose. Her eyes glaring as she had a sour frown. "She's gonna be a liability... Better off dead..."

She stood up as she didn't care about the bleeding. Her boots thud as she looks out to the hallway. Strucker storming over as he noticed her injury, a shake of his head as he waves her off. He'll handle her later.

Her steps echoed out as she leaves. But, the Soldier, that wouldn't be good for Zoë.

Wisps of white turned a damning red as Zoë took rushed breaths. The broken nose didn't do her any virtues. The swell of her eye didn't stop the raging wrath bubbling within her bones. Mind over matter. And the matter was, she couldn't give in to these Nazi freaks easily.

Sounds of choking, a bubbling of mucus and bile, filled the room. A thief was always prepared, and in the case of having all her personal belongings being seized, there was one thing they couldn't reach. A metal lock pick plopped into her hands, covered in a slime. It worked all the same. Her breathing picked up, the time between now and when those guards would appear being sparse. The lock clicked, the metal collar clattering to the ground. And as fate would have it, some disgruntled Nazis appeared.

Zoë, the hatred of a thousand souls burning in her eyes, and today, it might push over a thousand. She constructed a staff out of kinetic energy, the glittering magenta slamming into the faces of these so-called soldiers. Their heads knocked into the wall, and the volatile energy ripped through their stomachs. Blood splattered the cell, staining the walls with dazzling patters. Organs spilled out of the cavities, mushing to the ground with a big plop. She looked away, trying not to think of the reality. Bits of skin and guts speckled her boot.

Sucking in a breath, Zoë moved out of the cell. It was time to navigate the labyrinth. Face the cold of the Siberian winter.

Sienna didn't think much as the alarms went off. She eyes the Soldier as it sat there with her. Both kept away for now, it was better to losr agents then them.

The cries filled the halls as it echoed out. Blood painted each wall as agent after agent was sent after the teen.

Eventually they gave Sienna the go ahead. Others emptied out as she focused for a second. She'll hate it for a moment. But the halls began to flood with water. The waves of gallons of waters swept the hallways. She focused for a second as she began to push the teen out the base.

She'll be swept out soaking wet into the brittle cold.

Horrid breathing filled the corridors. A harsh hacking echoed throughout the barracks due to the teen’s broken nose. A faint magenta glow plastered the walls, the sounds of pulsing energy wafting through the concrete halls. Zoë looked around, swooping into a room, looking for her item. Her combadge would be helpful.

But before she could grab anything to contact the others —The X-Men, her family— rushing water sweep her away. She flailed desperately, her gear just out of reach. Her head bobbed under and above water, each gasping breath being snuffed by water.

The snow. The snow was pain. Each sputtering breath resolved in pain. Her wounds started to bleed again, and her nose was completely crooked. Adrenaline wore off, and whatever drug they snagged her with kicked in. Her head hurt, the Serbian winter fuzzing. Snow flaked covered her soaking wet hair and clothes. Zoë shivered, her core body temperature dropping.

There was no hope. She could only prey the X-Men could find her. Maybe mom or dad could reach her before she was a Zoë popsicle.

Think it’s fair to say I’m on a hiatus. This is very unintentional but writers block and the seasonal changes seems to have me by the brain right now and I am once again struggling with communication outside immediate friends (This post has been in my drafts for a few days…)

Calypso knocked on Kurt’s door. She needed a buddy for shopping. It was about the time of year she did her gift shopping. She would have bugged Remy but she didn’t feel like getting roped into a crime today. Besides she had Kurt’s gift already.

"Kurt? You home?” She called through the door listening to see if she could hear anything.

Kurt inhaled sharply at the knock at the door half expecting someone to drag him back into the kitchen to play mediator while Jean and Remy bickered about dinner for the third time this week. He let it out hearing Calypso, the purple swirl enveloping him and dropping him at the door.

He opened it with a smile, “Cal, it’s wunderbar to see you! What brings you to see me? I thought you be more entertained watching the show going on in the kitchen.”

Distended eyes filled with blood, dotting the sclera like fireworks on a warm summer’s night. Each eye, glassy and blown, gazed upon the tranquil sea of oranges. The tip of a bloodstained dagger punctured an eye, forcing it to pop like a water balloon. Those eyes belong to faces, which belong to heads on bodies. Gutted bodies with entrails spread through the rotting grass. Fireflies flashed through the stale air like twinkling stars.

A black and red horse sniffed the bodies, its fiery tail lapping at the flies attracted to the buffet set before them. It whinnied, pawing at the dry grass, giving its master a side eye. This girl did too much.

War played with a bloodstained dagger, sitting in the middle of the dismembered limbs. She carved circles into the ground, pulling up roots and dirt before stabbing the dagger tip into some body part. Her pale reddish-grey skin became speckled with browning blood, tacky and metallic. This was much of a war as it was a massacre, but what was the difference? In the end, millions died, decayed and nameless.

War stood, beckoning her horse offer, brushing her hand over its nose. All these people were now devoid of identity. Guttural guilt rose in her stomach, and she shook it off, tying the useless feeling half to any tree in the tasteless mindless wasteland locked in their heads. Hatred on one side. Indifference on the other.

A cacophony of choking noises broke the songs of nature. War hacked, being restrained and choked. Working with a defiant child wasn’t on the to-do list. In the recesses of their mind, War put her hands on her hips, facing the kid. She pulled her boots out of the swampland, shaking the muck sticking to it.

“You are annoying as fuck. Did you know that? You’re the type to try and avoid the great dying of your existence, which has gotten you chained and gagged. Go sit and watch like a good girl!” War kicked Zoë in the chest with her boot, knocking the wind out of the frightened child.

Zoë dug her nails into War’s thigh, penetrating the “flesh”. War grit her teeth, kicking Zoë in the jaw then throat.

“You never learn. Stop crawling out of the grave like a resurrected pet.” She yelped as Zoë threw them both in the muck, covering each other in the mud of the bog. Zoë shoved War’s head into the deep, suffocating mud. The cocoon wouldn’t hold, but it allowed her some time as War’s body sank into the bog. Dormancy and silence.

The horse nudged its master, bringing Zoë back to the real world. Hell. The blood. The bodies. Rotting soil and people who had names. She sat in a pile of blood, covering her face with her hands. Good god, how could she let it get this bad? Having to pay for someone else’s crime? Zoë threw up acidic bile. This couldn’t be fixed. There was no fix. There was only execution.

A mild sound of disgust echoed out in the field. The crunch of bones snapping and creaked, the leather boots belonging to the woman that- Zoe, would rather not see.

A pair of glowing ruby eyes stared back towards the young woman, a soft tsk left Sienna as she frowns.

"You keep coming back at the worse times. Why the fuck can't you leave things alone?" Her tone dripped with malice as she frowns, frustration set in her eyes as she rushed over. Her beautifully done nails dug into her shirt, yanking the child up to her feet. A cold icy tone left Sienna, forcing the young woman to listen to her. Seeing as the area was void of life-

"Fucken stay put in your mind. War, has too much to do. I am getting sick and tired of your resistance to our plans. For fucks sakes, FUCKEN SLEEP." The way her voice commanded the act, weaving into the deep and dark treacherous bits of Zoe's brain. War. Sienna hasn't done mind control in a while, her other abilities made it so she didn't need the medieval tactic. But, the plan has to go on, no more obsticals in their way.

Zoë lifted her head, turning it in the direction of the noise. Each sicking bone crunch made her wince. Locking eyes with those terrifying red rubies sicken her. Of course, this controlled came back, looking to keep things in tiptop shape for a lord whom couldn't care less. A strangled nose left her throat as Sienna yanked her up like a solider who had a due to pay. Her eyes narrowed, darkening as she spoke.

"Cause dis is my body, 'n you ain't 'loud t' use it." She snarled, her voice trembling. Fear coursed through her body, but only one thing would save her. Fight.

Zoë bit into Sienna's arm, using her powers to crunch through the bone. Letting go, she spit out blood, doing her bed to block out Sienna's commands by zoning out. A small headache set in, no thanks to the woman before her.

"Have you tried relaxin'. T'ink it might be great fo' yo' mental." She kicked Sienna in the stomach with her heeled boots.

Sienna yelps out as she yank her arm back. The muscles tore open, blood oozes out as she watched her arm hang.

"You're a fucken brat." She took a second. Collecting water in the air to patch her arm, she took a second as she kicked back. Slamming her boot heel into Zoë's face.

"Can you stop fucken resisting your fate!?" Her eyes gleamed bright red as she only had one thing in mind. She wanted her to suffer, she wanted to see her bream.

"I." Stomp. "Can't." Stomp. "HANDLE YOUR BULLSHIT!" She frowns, feeling a bit of rage as she didn't let up.

A yelp left Zoë’s mouth as she fell in the a pile of oxidizing blood. It splattered all over her, covering her hands and face in the sickening sticky muck. Cried left her mouth as Sienna struck her in the face, tearing open her flesh and breaking a cheek bone.

Zoë pushed Sienna off, powering her muscles with kinetic energy. She scrambled to her feet, kicking up grass. Placing her hands to her wounds and bruises, she hissed at Sienna.

“LEAVE ME ALONE!” She panted. “S-Stop.. stop huntin’ me. You win. You win! I have no family t’ go t’. You killed my momma ‘n daddy.”

She stumbled, turning tail to run.

Sienna frowns as she cursed. "Puta madre..." She ran a hand through her curls as she rushed after, her steps were slow. She was faster then most would expect, but of course, a super soldier isn't one to underestimate.

Her feet slid as she ran ahead. Arms wrapped around Zoë as she squeezed her tight. A wave of forced emotions hit her, a wave of hate, rage hit her.

Zoë screamed her lungs off. She kicked Sienna, scrapping up mud and leaf matter. She yanked and pulled, trying to wiggle her way out of Sienna’s tight grasp.

“Let me go, you whore. Let me go!” She screeched.

Sienna twisted her hands around her ankles. Forcing her back to the ground, the blood and mud clung to Zoë's face and hair as she frowns.

"Come on War. Wake up again. Don't let this brat hold you back..."

Sienna was trying to get them to switch. She needed the plans to keep moving. This wasn't helping.

"WAR WAKE UP"

A shrill scream filled the air, distributing the crows squatting in a nearby oak tree. Zoë dug her nails into the dirt as her body was jostled by Sienna.

Impending doom filled her gut, waves of fever washing over her fragile body. The mud in the bog shifted, bubbling as the monster clawed itself to the stagnate air.

She grabbed Sienna’s shift, her grip strengthening. Zoë hands warmed, glowing a dangerously bright magenta. She smirked, blood running down her nose.

“I can’t let yeah do dis.”

The purple spread across Sienna’s body, detonating.

Sienna frowns as she felt the ache and shock hit her. Every inch of her body shook from the explosive reaction.

Her body was flung back as she dragged Zoë with her. Rolling around in the dirt and mud. A low groan left her as she was pissed. Being irritated. A fucken kid got the upper hand on her.

Sienna glared up to the night sky. Feeling a pang of frustration. Her body was leaking blood underneath. But her healing factor was already kicking in.

The explosion rocked the surrounding land, waves of hot air rushing over the dead bodies and decaying grass. Blood dripped down Zoë’s face, the bright viscus liquid staining the ground.

She coughed, grimacing. She had let go, but her arms were burned, yellow and red muscles exposed to the air. The skin had bubbled and burnt, pockets of blood oozing down toward her torso.

Pain. Except there wasn’t pain. One of her eyes had swollen shut. She looked over at Sienna’s body, noting the blood. This would be a good time to run and ignore the pork like scent of burned flesh.

Zoë walked in the direction of home, taking the comm button in her mouth, pressing down with her teeth. Of course War kept it. Nothing like taunt those mourning the loss of the LeBeau family.

The plots were laid side by side, husband and wife. The soil was dotted with greenery, sprouts beginning to poke through the top layer in search for sun. It had been weeks since they had lost their lives, snuffed out prematurely by someone who might’ve been considered a valuable friend in another lifetime but not here. Here, she was a cold blooded killer standing at the side of depravity.

It was customary for a eulogy to be given at funerals, offering a final celebration of life for the deceased. One was given for the couple lost far too soon, the scarce ceremony attended with an overwhelming sense of grief and hatred for the woman who stole them away.

It was customary for catholic funerals for a priest to give the eulogy and thus, the duty fell onto Kurt. While not properly anointed, he was the closest one in the mansion to give the speech. The sheer thought of repeating the words made his stomach swirl, jaw trembling as he inched closer to the plots, a whimper piercing the stiff air.

He sank to his knees, swiping at the tears that burned his cheeks. One month. It had been one month since the cruel witch stole away his family, leaving a husk of the man he once was. It was hard enough to lose Rogue, the news piercing his heart like a fisherman's hook but he could tell himself that at least Gambit was there. He didn’t have to weather the grief alone. That security was ripped away soon after, Gambit succumbing to his injuries after facing off with the same woman who murdered his beloved. With his family dead and Zoë assumed dead as well, Kurt was isolated in his grief.

His arms clutched his aching chest as he looked at the graves, body trembling with silent sobs. One month he spent sat at their gravesite mourning. He wasn’t a spiteful man but he vowed to himself that if it came down to it, he would slaughter the woman who inflicted such suffering onto him. A righteous murder was a just one.

His comm crackled to life, spooking the unkempt man from his sorrows. He fumbled with it, not expecting anyone to contact him in such a period but, he pressed down on the button anyways. His voice warbled as he spoke his first words in days, “H..Hello…?”

River water rushed by as Zoë sat under a large oak tree. She had covered considerable ground after escaping Sienna’s grasp. War had sunk back into the muck, falling into hopefully a long slumber.

Her skin peeled back, crisp from the heat that absorbed all the water out of her decaying cells. Pain shot through her body every second she moved. Maybe this rest would do her some good.

That was until the comm crackled, her uncle’s voice coming through. Zoë opened her eyes, groaning softly. Happiness seemed to be in reach. Perhaps, finally, everything will be okay.

“K-Kurt.. help.. she’s-” She whined, the skin on her jaw tight and charred. “Pain.. I’m in pain.”

His eyes widened when it was Zoë’s voice coming through, grip tightening on the comm as if it was his final life line–and in a way, it was. It was hope, an answered prayer he had long given up on. Zoë was alive!

There was no time to celebrate though, her pain shining through her tight voice. His vision clouded with red, his body warming with an anger he’d never experienced before. His dear niece was alive but what had become of her in her absence? Had Sienna tried to add her to her body count too?

“I’m here for you, liebling.” His voice was dark, anger seeping into it no matter how much he tried to hold it back. It festered beneath his skin, replacing the grief that once stood, “Talk to me, what’s causing you pain?”

He was already rushing back to the mansion to pinpoint her location, the usual stalling of air as the vortex opened at the front gate. If Sienna laid even one finger on Zoë, there would be hell to pay.

Breathing became difficult, her skin sloughing off from the damage. Nothing but raw skin exposed to the elements as blisters formed. The skin tightened around Zoë muscles, making it all unbearable.

“Burns.. burns. Had t’ blow her up - t’ get her off.” She choked out. “My body hurts. So much blood and charred skin. Help..”

Blood seeped past her chapped lips. She looked beyond the river, watching cars pass by without a care in the world. Most of those people had families. Alive families. Happy families. Yet, her she was, her body burnt with little to live for. Force to be forever trapped in a meats suit full of grief while a witch hunted her down, calling for the Horseman to wake up at her expense.

She curled her fingers, the ligaments in her arm tight. “Help.. please..”

Zoë’s strangled cries only furthered the rage boiling in his blood. He was too mad to process most of what she was saying, latching onto the pain that was inflicted on her. His tail cut through the air like a whip, cracking down hard knowing what this meant.

Through clenched teeth, he hissed, “I’m coming for you Zoë, you don’t have to fret. You’ll be safe, I won’t let harm come to you.”

He slipped through the gate, shoving into the silent mansion with purpose. The rushing of water gave him a vague idea of where she would be, fingers flying across the keyboard as he typed the coordinates of her signal into the computer. His eyes flicked across the location, scribbling it down and snatching the paper before teleporting to the armory.

His fur bristled, hands trembling as he pulled his swords from the wall and slipped them on. A beaded string hung from his pocket, Kurt tipping his head down to remove it, laying the rosary in place of the swords. God had forsaken him, there was no reason to carry his symbol into battle. No protection laid in the idol on the cross.

“I’m coming for you…” He repeated, solidifying the idea that nestled into his brain as the door closed behind him.

The only thing there was to do now was wait. Wait for rescue or damnation. Who would get to Zoë first? Her beloved uncle who could soothe the searing pain, or the woman who would crack her head open. At least she had time. Sienna had to lay frozen while her body repaired itself.

Tears dripped onto her hand, causing a fire to burn through her bones. The river tempted her. Something that could sooth the pain, but it would make her wounds worse. Kurt's voice soothed her, but the world spun, slowly draining from her consious.

"I hope you come soon..." She whispered.

It was quite possible that he was marching to his death but it was a risk he had to take. Too many bodies had already been lowered into graves, he was determined to not be added to the total–Not for himself but for Zoë. If there was even the slightest chance to save her and slay the siren who caused such a dark pit in their lives, Kurt would take it.

It wasn’t lost on Kurt that it was madness to charge in not knowing what he was up against; if Sienna managed to kill two of the strongest members on the team, he didn’t stand a chance without strategy. Speed and agility were his greatest skills, using them would give him the upperhand momentarily but the exhaustion would claim him far before she did. But, he had to try. Death wasn’t an option for him.

Kurt pressed a palm to the scanner, the hangar door opening and triggering the count down before somebody came to investigate it. Kurt planned to be long gone before that happened, already flicking the sequence of levers he’d need to get airborne. The engine roared to life, coordinates being input, beginning its travels down the runway and out into the open.

It was pure instinct that Kurt managed to navigate the vessel to the location, mind quieting on the short flight. The jet landed just out of sight of the road, the bog trees acting as momentarily camouflage. He emerged, searching the remaining stretch of land for Zoë when the red, puffy flesh cut through the dreary landscape.

He was knelt by her side in seconds, three fingers cupping her cheek as he stared up at her. The grisly sight was all he needed to know that she wasn’t alone, keeping aware of his surroundings while he eased her back into the moment, “I’m here Zoë, no need to worry any longer.”

Zoë rest her eyes, allowing the chirping birds to invest her mind with their songs. Fresh lavender float among the wind, soothing her dying body. For a moment, the burns didn’t register. The burned flesh falling to the grass had ceased, and for a moment, everything became normal. No evil Sienna. No dead parents. Just a sunny day, soaking in the warmth of the uv light. Something told her everything would be okay. Possibly. If it wasn’t for choking on small drops of blood, she could believe this was a twisted nightmare. One of her usual.

Once Kurt’s hand touched her cheek, she roused, tears slipping down her face. Family. It was good to see someone who had nurtured and believed in her. Someone who took care of her while mom and dad were away. Zoë leaned into his fuzzy palm relaxing. One thing stayed in the focal point of her mind. Run. Run far away.

She gasped, using her teeth to tug at Kurt’s shirt. “We need t’ go now.. ‘fore she catches up. She’ll kill you too.. please. I can’t - I can’t lose anot’er..”

Kurt’s anguish deepened hearing Zoë’s pleas, her fear melting into the air and poisoning the last of the good will he clung to. At another time, he may have sought mercy and forgiven the siren who stole away every ounce of good in their lives, embodying the forgiveness of the holy man he claimed he was. But not now. Now, the putrid stench of crispy flesh drowned out the scent of the bog and any grace that remained. The pain wouldn’t end until her body laid at his feet, ensuring that nothing would bring harm to his precious niece.

Kurt smiled tightly up at her, his usual soothing eyes dark with purpose. He brushed bloodied tangles of hair back into place, wiping the grime from her cheek.

How could he tell her he wasn’t planning on coming home?

Not until Sienna was scattered across the very city she haunted. Not until their pain was inflicted on her and those who sided with her. Not until the earth wrapped its cold, unfeeling arms around her butchered corpse. He wouldn’t stop his hunt until she laid in ruins, an unclaimed body left to rot just like she deserved.

Kurt swallowed back the lump in his throat, cold and calculated as he made his requests, “I have a favor to ask of you ​​kleine. I need you to take the jet and leave this place. You’ve walked this path for too long, it’s time for me to alleviate you from this burden.”

What kind of favor was that? Tears gathered into her eyes, stinging the burns forever marking Zoë's skin. If only it had hunted another prey item. No fawns or their family. Maybe a wolf. Maybe a predator in need of being controlled, but in reality, that was the witch herself. Pain laced itself through her body as she lifted her arm. Everything was tight. Pins and needled dotted her body as she laid a burnt hand on Kurt's arm.

"I... I can't fly a jet in dis condition. Please don' leave me. Who will I have left? Who would comfort me..? Why do you want to leave me too?!" She screamed.

Saliva mixed with bright blood dripped down Zoë's chin. She coughed, leaning her head back. It would be better to let her body decay and leach of fluids than survive in a world where her family members kill themselves to defend her. She kicked Kurt away, turning her head. The grass shifted under the fading light, tilting its head toward her.

Why so sad? It seemed to ask. How could she tell something with pure instinct that her uncle rather kill himself than raise her. Something that shared no emotion. Not even a yelp of pain as she sat on part of it.

Who mourned the grass when it died? When the flowers retreated? Who mourned the decaying rivers or shattered skies? Who felt sad for the melting snow?

How could he be so selfish?

The question rang out like the echo of a gunshot, plunging deep into his consciousness. He didn’t give any reaction to Zoë’s foot jabbing into his sternum, pushing him away physically and emotionally. He had been called a lot in his life by those who despised him–misfit, monster, false prophet–but none stung quite as much as her broken voice asking such a simple question.

How could he be so selfish?

He stared vacantly as Zoë shrank away from him, repeating the phrase in his mind like it were her last. Was this his way of joining Rogue and Gambit? It was already unfair for Zoë to have to experience death of this caliber so young, could Kurt really subject her to losing another? The rift had just begun to splinter, there was still time to walk it back, to apologize for saying such hurtful words… but did he want to?

Grief laid its teeth to his heart and coaxed out the memories too painful to bear. It festered and grew, bubbling over like milk on the stove until it was all he was. There was nothing before grief, nothing to come after. It was his motive and his death. It was all he was, all he’d ever be.

But, he didn’t have to walk that path alone.

Looking at Zoë’s disfigured form, he saw hope. Something to live for, someone going through the same living hell he was; the spitting image of her parents. How could he be so selfish to think of leaving her to weather this hell alone?

Swallowing back the tightness that gripped his throat, he crawled over to her. Kurt couldn’t bring himself to meet her eyes, gaze fixated on the mud that sunk under his weight. She was right, he was selfish. A selfish man on a suicide mission that would sign her death certificate and he couldn’t bring himself to do that. He made no sound. No whimper or plead for forgiveness. He couldn’t ask that of her but, sitting at her feet, he made a silent oath to nobody but himself. No matter what was to come, she would have him by her side.

Every emotion mixed in the chest of a rotting body. A body so unrecognizable from the fluids rushing down its charred skin. Someone once healthy and happy, reduced to blackened skin clinging to bones. Dull eyes devoid of emotion stared past the rushing waters. The arrival of someone so close, a piece of family still containing a beating heart, would bring joy to most; however, to Zoë, it was another person who would be slain trying to save her from evil. She was a lost cause; better to be taken back home than fight tooth and nail for nothing. If only Kurt could understand.

Bile dripped onto her tongue, rancid and coppery. Must have been blood mixed in. Her gaze shifted to Kurt’s sunken face, the pain lingering in his cat-like eyes. The sun reflected off the wetness, bringing a soft glow of exhaustion. Despite the paint spreading through her like the plague, she shifted her weight so she was sitting in front of her uncle. This man raised her when her parents weren’t home. He always believed his judgment day would arrive, and here it was, at the hands of the most critical person: An abandoned teenager who lost hope in herself and society. No matter the ache in her jaw, the grief gnawing on her mind, the words sinking into her heart - she still gave Kurt a chance to revoke it all.

“You’re not a vengeful man, mon oncle. Be a man of God and help the hopeless.” She whispered, not knowing his new resentment for the one he prayed to.

Life was cruel, and would forever be so, no matter what one prayed to. It was always a sheep eats the grass, a wolf eats the sheep, and a bullet enters the wolf’s head.

Tears burn their way down his cheek, mind silencing at her words. How could such gentleness come from somebody who lost so much? A charred orphan staggering through life in eternal fear and yet she was more of an adult than he could ever imagine being.

A laugh bubbled out of him, teetering between authentic and hysteria. The idea tickled him, ribs aching with something other than pain. This was the Zoë he knew and he could never turn his back on her. Even as his anguish dragged him into the murky abyss, past what he imagined was the point of no return, she was there to call his stupidity out. The wake up call to force him back to reality.

“Forgive me.” He sniffed, lifting his head to her with a gentle smile, “I’m no more a fool than Mercutio, hmm?”

Kurt pushed off of the ground, mud slipping between his fingers as weight was forced down on it. He wiped the substance off on his leg and helped her from the stump, careful to avoid the flesh that melted from her frame.

He may be a fool like Mercutio but one with enough wits to not resign to the same mistake. There would be plague befall their houses on this day for no more blood would be spilled fighting a hopeless war.

“Let’s get you home.” He mumbled, leading her back to the warmth of the jet. It hummed to life, lifting from the ground and leaving the stained land behind.

She was finally heading home.

Favourite Christmas song?

Asking me to pick just one is cruel when there’s so many joyous songs to choose from! I suppose I do find myself drawn to Carol of the bells or silent night but Christmas time is so cheerful that I don’t mind what’s playing.
