“Détraquée Ruined Me—in the Best Possible Way”
I just finished Détraquée and… I don’t know what to do with my life right now. Like genuinely, what am I supposed to do? Fold laundry? Answer emails? Resume the life I had before Hystaracal turned my brain into emotional soup and served it with a side of literary humiliation?
I’ve been deep—DEEPLY—obsessed with Dramione fanfiction for over a month. Yes, I’m new here. Yes, I fell down the rabbit hole hard. No regrets. But Détraquée? That was different. That wasn’t just a story. That was a reckoning. That was a spiritual experience disguised as a fanfic. That was a full-on existential slap across the face with a silk glove.
Hermione in Détraquée is a DIVAAAAA. All caps. Five A’s. She’s complex, magnetic, maddening, unapologetically brilliant—and honestly, I need a support group just to process her. I’ve read other brilliant fics. They’ve made me cry, laugh, spiral. But this? This made me want to close my laptop, stand up dramatically, and change the trajectory of my entire life. Like... should I enroll in a TESDA course? Start a business? Apply abroad? Learn a new skill that doesn’t involve doomscrolling on TikTok until 3 a.m.? I DON’T KNOW. But what I do know is: I can’t just lie in bed and scroll Kindle like a cryptid anymore.
Hystaracal didn’t just write a fic. They dropped an intellectual nuke laced with literary, art, and music references that made me feel like a dumb lil’ peasant—but in a good way. The kind of ignorance that inspires you to learn. To seek. To live. I mean, how DARE a fanfic author awaken the part of me that wants to start reading philosophy and frequent independent film screenings???
So I’m stepping back from Dramione for a few days. Maybe a week. Not because I’ve lost interest, but because I need to reflect. To recalibrate. To process what the hell I just experienced. And maybe, just maybe, to touch some grass.
I’ve bedrotted enough. It’s time to strive. It’s time to romanticize the hell out of my own life. If Hermione can burn the world down with her heels on and still quote Nietzsche, the least I can do is drink some water and revisit my career goals.
So thank you, Hystaracal, for writing Détraquée. For throwing my brain into chaos. For reminding me that fanfiction isn’t just comfort—it can be confrontation, transformation, motivation.
Now excuse me while I put on a playlist of dramatic instrumentals and try to become the main character of my own damn life.
PS. Thank you for all other Authors as well of these crafts! I appreciate your time, your brain cells, your emotional damage. Ya'll have kept us fed, unwell, and wildly inspired.
