I work at Hot Topic and we had a white suburban dad in who was buying matching heavy metal/screamo band shirts for him and his teenage daughter and said “To be honest, I think this stuff sounds like garbage, but she likes it so we listen to it together and we’re going to the concert for Christmas.” And it was just really heartwarming to see him so involved in his child’s life and validating her interests.

I don't know how well you can see that, but on the board it says, "Always have faith in the path you create. Don't allow deception to divert your ascent." That is Rule #19. One of Help3r's best rules in my opinion. I had put it on a collage for my art class which my English teacher got a good look at. The week after this was on the board for the whole week. This is both awesome, awful, and fahcking hilarious.

October is Spina Bifida Awareness month. Spina Bifida is a birth defect that 1 in 1,000 people are born with. There are only 3 types of  Spina Bifida (Occulta; least severe, Meningocele; mildly severe, and Myelomeningocele; most severe), however  there are MANY different effects from it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouMi5z1vwbE this is a short video (1:53) explaining what Spina Bifida is. The reason I bring is up is because this is the disability I was born with Spina Bifida Myelomeningocele and i’d just like to get the awareness out about it. Because even though some forms of it are hereditary…. its mostly preventable. Also because I want to show people that i’m MORE than just my disability. My disability doesn’t define who I am. I am defined by my character, my spirit, my actions, my life and how I choose to live it.  I may have Spina Bifida. But Spina Bifida doesn’t have me.
