This space is a place for me to post and reblog things that make me happy – games, BTS, cats, pretty things, coding stuff, and more.
However, right now I'm very deep into the world of Paralives. So, I will be posting a lot about the game. If you are here because of Paralives, you can go directly to the posts using the menu at the bottom of this post.
Also, I have a personal site that I love working on. It's my cozy home for all my web projects and fun web stuff. Feel free to visit dreamtyme.org if you are curious.
Vanessa has easily become my favorite builder in Paralives. With only four builds so far, they have taught me so much and her builds are lovely and full of personality. I wanted to share this one, but check out all her build videos. They are great.
This album has been everything for me. It is a full listen through every time I listen to it I don't skip anything. I'm so glad they're back. There's just something magical about them and I just wish them all the good things in the world because they are such good people!
The Paralives team added a new Modding category to the official Discord server today. The category includes a general mod chat, tutorials and help sections, and areas for sharing both custom content and mods.
I'm happy to have a clearer understanding of how they plan to support modding in official spaces. As someone who enjoys pointing people towards tutorials, resources, and cool discoveries, I found their official stance helpful.
I'm sharing screenshots of the announcement below in case anyone missed it.
You may already know that holding ALT lets you apply wall or floor textures to almost any object in the game, even ones that aren't normally recolourable:
But there's more! ⚠️⚠️⚠️
For whatever reason, these two floor textures make things invisible. By applying them, you can hide parts of all kinds of objects and create some pretty interesting results.
Want to put a plant inside an oversized basket? Fill a bowl with popcorn? Stick toothbrushes in a random mug? Now you can!
If you are not happy with the outlining on your paras. There are a few mods available that will remove or make it more subtle. I've been using More Subtle Outline since I installed the game.
After creating my own tweak for No Camera Height Adjustment, I decided to poke around in the control panel to see if I could find the outline setting. It took me about 15 minutes to find it. I wanted to make the outline even thinner than the 0.2 the mod uses.
Just like my previous tutorial, it only requires tweaking one setting - technically two (we'll get to that).
As I said in my previous tutorial, I don't plan on making mods for other people, but I want to help others tweak their game without hoping there is a mod that will make their game do what they want.
Without further ado, here is the tutorial.
Step 1
At the main menu of Paralives, select Mods.
Step 2
Select Create New Mod in the bottom-right corner.
Step 3
Name your mod. (I named mine Tweak: Thin Character Outline.)
Step 4
You will now see your mod in the mods list. Hover over it and select Edit this Mod.
Step 5
In the top-right corner, select Control Panel.
Step 6
Select Character Models under CHARACTERS.
Step 7
The Models category should be open, but if not, click the arrow to reveal the available models.
Next, expand HumanAdult. Find the Shader Parameters section and expand it. Locate the _Outline Width field. The default value is 0.5.
I changed mine to 0.1 because I wanted much thinner outline.
You will also want to make the same change to HumanToddler. Follow the same steps and adjust the _Outline Width value there as well.
That's it!
Step 8
Select My Mods in the top right corner, hover over your mod again, and click Stop editing this mod.
You're done!
Click the back arrow in the top-left corner to return to the main menu, then jump into the game and check the outline to see if you want to make any adjustments.
Hope this helps!
If you don't want to change these settings yourself, here are two mods you can use instead:
I have been thinking about this issue for a few days. It's a delicate subject, and I don't think the entire community is ever going to reach complete agreement. (Except maybe agree to disagree. 😂)
I honestly believe that EA's decision in 2022 to allow early access mods set a precedent that has had a major influence on the life sims community. From what I have seen, the large Sims community that supports this model is an outlier compared to most other gaming communities where charging for in-game mods is usually viewed much more critically.
As for the Paralives devs' stance, I understand they cannot realistically police every creator, mod, Patreon or external website. At the same time, I would have liked to see a clearer statement of preference from the team. I would have appreciated a clearer statement because the current one leaves a lot of room for interpretation.
I understand that modding takes time and skill. I appreciate the work that modders do, and I have supported creators via Patreon and Ko-fi in the past. For me, charging for early access to content for a game that isn't theirs in the first place feels icky.
That said, on-going discussion is healthy and is how communities grow and develop. I suspect this topic will continue through Early Access and beyond.
Ultimately, the only thing any of us can control is our own behavior. For my part, I plan to support and spotlight creators who release their work through the Steam Workshop, provide free downloads through places like Nexus Mods, or use Patreon and Ko-fi as support platforms rather than early-access gates.
I'm a small fish in this community but I wanted to share my perspective.
For more discussion on the topic, I recommend this article:

a gentle reminder to everyone getting into paralives that even though they are both life simulators, the sims and paralives are different games! thanks
Exactly. I'm looking forward to seeing how Paralives develops over Early Access. I understand people wanting certain features, but at the same time this game doesn't have to be the "Sims Not By EA" or anything like that. Considering the complaints about the Sims games, I'm not sure Paralives following the same path is the answer.
As someone who has played the Sims on and off since The Sims was released, I appreciate that the devs are doing this differently.
My very first custom content hairstyle collection for Paralives is finally here!
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
This collection includes several feminine hairstyles designed with a semi-realistic style in mind, while still fitting naturally into the world of Paralives.
Each hairstyle comes with 4 different texture pattern variations, so you can easily switch between slightly different hair finishes and looks depending on your character’s style.

♡ Includes:
6 different feminine hairstyles
4 texture pattern variations for each hairstyle
I’ve been learning and experimenting a lot while creating these, and I’m really excited to finally share this first collection with the community.
