“ okay , i think that's the last one for me , ” he said , setting his glass down on the bar top. he shook his head , a sigh escaping his lips. “ i need to start heading home sooner rather than later. coming here was a bad idea. ” it didn't make him feel any better , and he figured that would've been the case from the start , so he wasn't sure what possessed him to try in the first place.
"don't tell me you're tapping out already." arden began, her lips slowly curling into a smirk. "i never really took you as a quitter." she let out a laugh as she brought her drink to her lips, slowly sipping the contents. "some of the best ideas start off as bad ones, don't they? it's practically how the game of truth or dare became such a staple." she paused. "or, we could always discuss what's bothering you if the shots are losing their edge."
Neo let his eyes roll. "He should run while he still has the chance." He said with a weak laugh. "Women these days are vicious." He was foreshadowing a bit on his own problems. He was lucky that Ella's sister took the twins for a night. He needed a couple of hours to himself to think. "Wanna trade? I could use some boredom in my life. I feel like I haven't got an ounce of rest since she left."
"he may be beyond saving at this point." the blonde responded with a laugh. "it seems like it could honestly go either way. feels like there's too much tension on the horizon.” his words seemed a little heavy for the nightclub, but the bar would be enough to offer him some relief. “sounds to be like you could also use a distraction. what are we drinking?” arden asked, meeting his eyes. “how are the twins holding up?”
“Alright, alright.” Jason never stood a chance, a damn sucker for the confident way Dilan carried herself like she wasn’t about to take no for an answer. The low huff that followed came in slow—stubborn. A rumble that caught between his still aching ribs but refused to quit until it got the better of Jason. The kind of sound that started deep in his gut, then rolled off his chest with a quiet reverence—one only Dilan could pull from him. Even in the wake of the car wreck.
“Just once. Cross my heart and shit.” Jason swore to her and hoped to die. A calloused finger drew an x over his chest to make good on that promise. Then, he wriggled one eye shut followed by the other, something easing in his ribcage.
“really?” the surprise was practically written across her face, the lack of protest washing over her like a warm sunrise. dilan was no stranger to his stubbornness — that same trait that pulled her in and made him jason. she wouldn't change it for anything.
"i'll take it, but not the dying part ... we can cross your heart without it." her smile softened as she stepped back toward her hiding spot, eyes lingering on him as he waited. sure, it went without saying how those promises usually went, but the thought alone sent a chill down her spine. they were lucky that the loss suffered was only his car — she didn’t know what she’d do if it had been anything more.
the box was exactly where she left in, wrapped in a metallic purple ribbon that shined so bright you could probably spot it in the dark. the brunette returned, gently setting the box in his lap before placing her hands on top of his eyes for safekeeping. "will you tell me if you hate it?"

Freddie rolls his eyes as he opens the door to a lecture, stepping aside to allow Arden into his apartment. “ in my defence - I didn’t actually run into fire. ” he says, a grin lacing his features. “ I’m fine, it’s barely a paper cut. Plus I got some cool stitches. ”
"fine, we'll go with a technicality — still it wasn't your best decision." arden shook her head as she walked into his apartment, at the least she was glad his injuries didn't turn out worse. "and soon you'll likely have a scar to take it's place. how many did they end up giving you?" she questioned, a smile spreading across her features. "what have you been up to since?"

“what the hell were you thinking?” arden questioned the moment she laid eyes on him. “i know we talked about being predictable but that doesn’t mean you should literally run into fire.” the blonde sighed, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear. “this was bad … but it could of been so much worse. are you okay?”

“i have a surprise for you.” dilan told him softly. “before you say anything, you surprise me all the time … let me have a turn for once.” she knew his stubbornness was part of his many layers of charm, but she wasn’t letting him win. with everything that had happened lately, the loss of his beloved car only made the situation worse. “promise me you’ll close your eyes and not peek.” she stood up from her spot on the couch, offering him a small smile before leaving to grab his gift.

“it’s like a bad reality show.” aspen began to no one in particular as she looked on at the scene a few feet away from her. she didn’t recognize the couple nor could she make out what the woman was yelling over the melody of music coming from the dance floor — they were too far. "but i can't look away. whatever he did, i almost want to thank him — i was beginning to think i'd be doomed to boredom."

It was damn near inevitable—the hint of pride that swelled in Jason’s chest the moment he switched lanes and looked over at Dilan from the driver's side. Just seeing her there was enough to do it, smiling at him and riding shotgun in his Camaro when she could’ve rolled up to the show with just about anyone else.
"Oh hell yeah, Dil." He patted the dashboard twice, picking up a little speed as his hand returned to the gearshift. "And just wait 'til ya really see what she's got. Ol' girl handles the turns like a champ, and she's fast as all hell, zero to sixty in four flat." Jason rambled before he caught himself, heat creeping up the side of his neck at how stupid he must've sounded. He regained his cool again—fast, the only thing that might've been faster than his Camaro.
“All to yourself, huh?" His brow ticked up at her boldness, and he blew past the parking lot for the car show. "I got just the place." Jason added, a slow smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth just as his blues shifted to meet Dilan's. "But I need ya to do me a favor first."
“i’ll be happy to see her in action, calm drives like this don’t do her any justice.” dilan smiled softly at him from the passenger seat, happy to hear him talking about something he was clearly passionate about. she couldn’t get enough of jason revealing more about himself — every detail left her wanting more. it was moments like these, the ones filled with his brief rambles of excitement that made being in his presence that much more special.
“yeah, only if you're okay missing all the opening festivities?” the words left her mouth softly, though his actions had already answered her question. “of course.” she told him, their eyes meeting for a moment before his returned to the road. “what is it?”
for . dilan ( @drewhearts ) location . around the drinks area .
drink in one hand , eyes glued to his phone in the other , he spun on his heel and got a dozen steps away before nearly collided with her again . once at the gala , second time in the bookstore , and now , a third time here . catching himself just short , he lifted his glass above her head , lips twitching with something caught between humor and regret . " promise i’m not doing this on purpose , dil . " he said , voice lighter than the weight sitting between them .
she didn't notice him until it was too late, her eyes meeting his as the drink raised above her head. "why am i starting to not believe you?" she asked, a soft laugh leaving her lips. "three times in a row — the evidence isn't exactly stacked in your favor." dilan didn't mind running into him, though it was hard to ignore the lingering pain of the past when he was this close. there was still so much they hadn't resolved, all of it being buried under these unplanned run ins.
she glanced in the direction dilan was gesturing towards , nodding in acknowledgement. cars were not her area of expertise , and she wasn't ashamed to admit that. she was willing to learn , even if she knew it'd take her time to fully comprehend everything. “ i know what you mean , ” she said , laughing softly. “ it's a lot to take in. ” holly wouldn't pretend to understand it all , she'd just ask questions when she needed to. the blonde laughed softly at her words , “ i think it's the hot wheels collection , ” she stated in jest.
“definitely a lot — i like looking and admiring even if i don’t know what all the modifications do.” dilan said in agreement, nodding along with her holly’s words. she wasn’t afraid of asking, who knows how many questions she’d already thrown her date’s way — there’d surely be more to follow. “it makes a lot of sense. some of those race tracks were pretty fancy.” she laughed. “this just gives them another taste. do you know anyone racing tonight?”
