you were insecure about your chest since high school. they were plump and a lot bigger for your age, and you tried to hide them in every way possible. you thought they would get smaller as you got older and lost weight, but it was quite the opposite and they got even bigger. nobody ever saw your boobs, not even your best girl-friends because you were simply too insecure about them.

the day came faster than you expected. you were even more nervous because you hadn’t told rafe about this. he didn’t even know you were getting any tattoo. the experience was not as bad as you thought it would be. when you got up to take a look at it, you were in pure shock. the R in cursive on your left breast looked even better than you imagined. however, the scariest part was showing this to rafe..

Rafe Cameron never intended to lay his eyes on his best friend’s sister.

She was like family to him, always around — friends with Sarah. She was just another kid on the island.

One Summer changed everything.

She was older now, fresh from college, back in the Outer Banks’ for one last ride.

And somehow, she was different too. Wiser, sharper, hard to not notice when she passed by.

The problem?

She was off-limits.

His family would freak out if they knew, let alone his best friend since childhood, he’d kill him.

Rafe had always protected her, like his own little sister, but now…

Now he couldn’t take his eyes off of her.

And it wasn’t just looks, oh no, it was something else entirely.

She was laughing at the jokes that Rafe made, the ones she didn’t understand when she was younger.

She was more mature, running around Tannyhill and making everyone smile with her presence.

She turned heads, that was for sure.

And Rafe? He didn’t like that at all.

He hated how boys her age always found excuses to linger longer.

The compliments, the stares, the way they smiled at her like they had a chance.

Most of all…

He hated himself for caring so much.

That was the same little girl that cried when she scrapped her knees, climbing on a tree. The same little girl that played with butterflies with Sarah in the garden.

He used to ruffle her hair and call her “kid”.

She wasn’t a kid anymore.

The music was loud enough to make the ground vibrate.

She sat in the garden, the only thing she remembered was texting Rafe earlier.

Her brother couldn’t know that she was at a Pogues’ party.

She’d had maybe three drinks, let’s say four.

A black Range Rover pulled up in front of the house, she recognized it immediately.

Rafe’s.

He got out of the car, looking for her.

“You came.”

She said as soon as she met him, the smell of alcohol on her strong.

“Of course I did.”

Rafe smiled.

“Now, why are you even here? At a Pogues’ party.”

He asked, not disappointed, worried.

She didn’t know how to answer, perhaps too drunk to even comprehend what he was asking.

“Come on, let’s get you home.”

He said, wrapping his arm around her shoulders.
